July 24, 201410 yr it looks like salesforce, which is building a ballyhooed new tower in sf and which is taking over the heron tower in london, will be expanding and moving its nyc offices to one of the new hudson yards or manhattan west towers: http://nypost.com/2014/07/24/salesforce-com-looks-west-for-signature-site/

November 8, 201410 yr a few recent pics of hudson yards construction from the high line, coach tower, deck over the rail yard, etc.

April 20, 201510 yr cool pics of the 7 train extension and a peek at 55 hudson yards, an office tower next to the station on the north side of the yards: http://gothamhudson.com/34-st-hudson-yards-a-look-at-the-soon-to-open-7-subway-extension-to-the-far-west-side/
June 6, 201510 yr ^ yes - only one 7 train extension station at w34th st & 11th ave. i understand there were some provisions made for another station at w41st & 10th avenue that got cancelled early on due to $, but no platforms built or anything. also of note is this extension is more than it seems because the bored out tunnel goes all the way down to w25th st, obviously with a eye toward expansion at some point. the tbm was actually removed rather than just left there as it often is in subway construction (due to the cost of removing it). so for now this section will be used as end of the line train storage. a couple other things about it. one is that the line runs under the pabt, which greatly complicated construction as they had to take out and work around lower lever bus lanes in that maze of a building. also, for the elevators i see an ohio company got the business for the complicated speed governor system. not sure who the company is?? here's an instagram i made of the w25th st end of the line bldg over the tbm entry hole this is the neighborhood where all the chelsea art galleries are

June 8, 201510 yr ^ one entrance? i dont think that would even be legal. certainly not safe. there is a main entrance on w34th st -- there is another one closer to the javits on w35th. i think that's it, but not sure. i found something showing them both here:
September 30, 20159 yr i took a bunch of pics -- so here is a ride to the new hudson yards 7 train station a couple days after it opened:
September 30, 20159 yr The most amazing project in the US today. 17 million square feet! Basically a small city being built.
October 7, 20159 yr per the post, a hy milestone -- the coach tower tops off today The new Hudson Yards station is scooping up business By Steve Cuozzo October 5, 2015 | 11:21pm Now that the No. 7 line Hudson Yards station is open, New Yorkers with only a dim idea of what’s going on there have no excuse not to check it out. Projects by several developers are in the works in the area. But Related Companies’ 28-acre site above a rail yard between 10th and 11th avenues and West 30th and 34th streets is the big kahuna. On Wednesday, Related and partner Oxford Properties Group will top off 10 Hudson Yards, the 1.75 million-square-foot, 52-story tower at the site’s southeast corner. The ceremony follows the signing of the skyscraper’s latest tenant, social media-oriented digital agency VaynerMedia, which will move from Park Avenue South. The deal was done for Related by CBRE’s Bob Alexander and by Stephen Winter in-house. The 88,000-square-foot lease leaves only 15 percent of space left at 10 Hudson Yards, which earlier signed Coach, L’Oréal USA and software engineering firm SAP. The building is scheduled to open early in 2016. Meanwhile, Related/Oxford’s taller and larger 30 Hudson Yards is also under way. Time Warner has committed to 1.6 million square feet of a total 2.6 million square feet, and Related says they’re in “advanced negotiations” for the rest of the tower, to open in 2019. At 55 Hudson Yards at 11th Avenue and 30th Street — where Related has partnered with Japan’s Mitsui Fudosan — law firm Boies Schiller & Flexner took 83,000 square feet of a total 1.3 million feet. Move-in is set for 2018. The site will also be home to Related’s shopping and restaurant complex, where Neiman Marcus and a Thomas Keller restaurant are expected to open in 2018.
January 22, 20178 yr hudson yards 1/22/17 this is good of a time as any to mark the progress on this enormous and complicated development area as phase one is halfway done. most of it is from this past friday when i walked around after work. i added a few older shots for contrast. unfortunately it was a crappy weather day and i was losing the light -- best i could do. this is the brookfield one manhattan west tower going up over the eastern hudson railyards - it’s at 9th av between w32-33sts right off the bat, it’s pretty cool to catch a lift! 401 w31st, the first manhattan west residential tower -- looks to be about done a peek inside the gate to the west is the hideous associated press bldg -- it was reclad and got a name change to 5 manhattan west -- so now only looks glassy & strange -- some of it is built over a lincoln tunnel entrance just west of that and across 10th av is the related hudson yards site and mall here at w31st the southern end coach tower base at w30st & dyer ave a pano of all of related’s hy along 10th ave i think this shows the mall better this is the northeast corner of the 30hy at w33st 1296’ - but words cannot describe how utterly massive this bldg is, it dwarfs the coach tower crocodile tears for the drive-through mcdonalds just north at sw 10th av/34st? -- it’s a goner…related is going to build 985’ tall 50hy on this corner a marriott going up nearby at 361 w34st -- hy spinoff this is 55hy going up west behind the new subway station & just north of hudson yards another one just to the south of 55hy is going up over the railyard itself - it’s 35hy flashback earlier view from around here from last spring i think a closeup look at the big boy so far, 30hy, from the little park around the 7 train station up & down they go -- it was certainly active looking in the railyard decking pit -- i think this might be for the vessel aka vertical adult hamster run staircases to nowhere corporate art sculpture thingy the other northern 7 subway entrance, is still closed up - i think that’s tied up in moinian’s 3 hudson blvd tower construction & opening more of 55hy - related is also the developer here as it is for the yards itself a hoist on 55hy 30hy again from another angle flashback -- some changes on 30hy since then! i stood on some park chairs to look over the fence for a peek at the 3 hudson blvd tower pit this is what the second subway entrance is supposed to look like, basically just like the first another spinoff development going up to the northeast at w36st - i dk what, looks like res apts now walking around 55hy and heading south on 11th ave from standing in front of the javits center, this is a pano looking east all along 11th ave back to 55hy looking and walking south along 11th ave here -- in front of 35hy a glance back here at the southern 11th ave/w30st corner of hudson yards is the culture shed & 15hy coach tower comes back into view -- technically it’s 10hy this is a similar flashback view from last summer i think and both of these are from even earlier a look back again at 55hy, 35hy & 30hy looking east here -- you can see the new mall across what will be the open public square park back for a look over at 15hy fka the corset - too bad they changed the design - the ‘knitted’ corset was my favorite of all of these looking east along the southern end of hudson yards & the highline at w30st at street level up on the highline park -- looking north along 11th ave here are a couple earlier views from there -- from summer i think pieces of the vessel, the huge public square sculpture you can climb on -- have arrived a little corporate courtyard to enter the coach tower via the highline has opened a look west from the coach tower’s courtyard at 15hy these are a bit earlier views from the coach courtyard -- i went the day it first opened ***note there is no action on the western end of hudson yards bet 11-12avs & w30-34st as yet. that is phase two, which will start in 2020. it’s supposed to be 7 residential towers, one office tower and a public school. phase two is actually where related, the developer, will finally recoup their money. as you can see, phase one looks on point to wrap up in 2019.*** edit -- here is a map of everything inside the hy, but its kind silly as so much is going on all around it as well: **so that’s what’s up around the hudson yards at the moment -- stay tuned it’s changing fast!**
January 23, 20178 yr looks like the one i didn't know about up there at the north end of hy park is 513-521 w36st: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=217484&page=2
January 25, 20178 yr it seems 15 hy is selling very well - if you are wondering about these apts here is an interesting article about that: http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20170118/REAL_ESTATE/170119887/hudson-yards-tower-sells-more-than-25-of-its-units-as-luxury-condo-market-shows-sparks this render is what it used to look like earlier in its original version when it was 'the corset'
January 25, 20178 yr this is the $150M hy public art piece called the vessel by thomas heatherwick: more: http://ny.curbed.com/2016/9/14/12915700/hudson-yards-new-york-thomas-heatherwick-sculpture-design http://www.hudsonyardsnewyork.com/discover/vessel/
January 25, 20178 yr Although it's exciting to stroll over after work and check on the progress of this massive development, Vessel is the part I'm most excited for. I'm a huge fan of weird, large, interactive, functional pieces of public art. And being elevated above the plaza among the tallest cluster of towers in Manhattan other than the WTC will be pretty spectacular. I'm really hoping the 2018 opening date is accurate. The pieces arrived recently so it should start rising in the near future.
January 25, 20178 yr yes most of the pieces are sitting in the staging area on the western end of the hy -- i'll try to get a better pic of that sometime than the one i posted above. per nyyimby -- it looks like the vessel foundation base is ready for it: from walking around hy a lot and watching the now rapid pace of everything going up i would certainly say its all on time to open in 2019, including the public square park and the vessel.
January 25, 20178 yr I can't get over how massive 30 HY is going to be. It's a monster of a building. 10 HY is visible from all over the city and it's only 878' tall vs. 30 HY's 1,296'. I can't even imagine how that'll look. Basically half again as big with a massive floor plate for much of the building. It's going to be about 83% of the area of 1 WTC which is craziness. I can't wait for the outdoor observation deck cantilevered off 30 HY. That's going to be an amazing experience. 15 HY is a good looking tower, but it was so unique when it was still The Corset. The value engineering that occurred still resulted in a unique massing, but the reasoning is lost. Before it had an elegance that was really nice.
January 25, 20178 yr despite being forbes - this is a nice article from last spring after the coach tower opening that briefly summarized about everything you might want to know about related's hudson yards development (minus the rest of the spinoff stuff going on all around it): http://www.forbes.com/sites/chloesorvino/2016/05/31/hudson-yards-americas-largest-private-real-estate-development-opens-first-building/#7b63d80a6208
February 4, 20178 yr via amny: NHL to move headquarters to Hudson Yards in Manhattan By Ivan Pereira [email protected] December 7, 2016 The NHL is making a power play to the west side. The league announced Wednesday that it will move its headquarters from Rockefeller Center to Hudson Yards in 2019. It will take 160,000 square feet on five floors and open the NHL shop on the retail ground floor at One Manhattan West at the corner of 33rd Street and Ninth Avenue. “The growth and momentum of our game and our business require a state-of-the-art facility; with its terrific amenities, including an NHL store, our new building will be that and more,” NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said in a statement. The 67-story tower is 40% leased with other tenants including its anchor tenant, the legal services group Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. It is expected to open sometime in the third quarter of 2019. Earlier this year, Hudson Yards opened its first tower, 10 Hudson Yards, which is the new home of Coach. The 26-acre development, which includes a school, residential and commercial buildings and three parks, is expected to be complete in 2025. more: http://www.amny.com/real-estate/nhl-to-move-its-headquarters-to-hudson-yards-in-manhattan-1.12717804
April 20, 20178 yr per curbed, it looks like the massive 2.6M sq ft 30hy is catching up in height to the coach tower. it should pass it by this summer. also, the lower rise hy mall building is putting in escalators and the like, so its coming along pretty quickly now.
April 20, 20178 yr I've been following this development on forums.skyscraperpage. Just f'ing amazing on every level.
May 2, 20178 yr pretty cool news -- i just heard 'the vessel' in the hy courtyard is going up -- i'm going to walk by after work today and see if i can see anything.
May 4, 20178 yr i did get to walk by yesterday - its an incredible sight! now we know how the stairs got over to the site! from the coach tower highline courtyard
June 17, 20177 yr what's up around hy -- from yesterday 1 manhattan west 30 hy 55 hy 35 hy 15 hy the vessel hy neiman marcus mall 50 hy -- fka the drive thru mcdonalds to be -- 509 w34st aka the spiral 515 w36st
June 17, 20177 yr I can't get over the scale of this project... Hudson Yards alone is bigger than a lot of cities' entire downtowns! “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
July 12, 20177 yr here is something pretty cool and unusual -- a lift video for a piece of the vessel:
July 12, 20177 yr The Vessel is the most exciting part of the project to me. As much as I'm loving covering a giant hole in the fabric of Manhattan with gigantic buildings, public space, new subway station, etc. this centerpiece is going to offer the everyday person something to do there. And climbing to its top will provide some really interesting vantage points of the new neighborhood.
July 12, 20177 yr yeah the vessel and the completion of the highline park stub are what i am most looking forward to as of now. the view platform on top of the mammoth 30 hy tower will be nice too. otherwise it all seems pretty sterile. no doubt there will be some kind of other amenities when they get to the western section of the hy. at least nice park and courtyard areas as that will be mostly residential. we'll see.
July 12, 20177 yr I think overall it'll feel pretty lively once finished. It's a massive challenge though to achieve a comfortable feeling with only massive buildings. It's the reason the rest of Manhattan works so well. There's a solid 2-15 story base to the island that grounds the massive towers. When you ONLY have massive towers it's much harder. I'm also super excited to watch the Culture Shed slide in and out of its spot. Such an interesting feature. And it's massive. I knew it was huge but seeing it in person has really changed my understanding of its scale. It's an entire building that slides on rails. Pretty awesome.
July 13, 20177 yr ^ yeah i wonder what they are going to do with that? maybe it will be like blossom, a summer site for the orchestra? pop shows? plays? who knows, but that will be a very nice and unusual public facility to have too. i guess i shouldnt write off the new shopping mall either lol. if some of the towers can add indoor-outdoor cafes or something like that into the park area perimeter, and not just chi-chi stuff, no doubt it will make the experience of being in there more comfortable and less dystopic.
August 24, 20177 yr an end of summer review of the hy developments -- from the intrepid today from 10th av
September 2, 20177 yr ^ yeah, except instead of built on sand its built over the top of an active train yard. its an incredible construction achievement.
September 11, 20177 yr If Amazon chose to build their new HQ2 at Hudson Yards, how would that fit into the project?
September 12, 20177 yr good question. black rock has 50 hy, pfizer has the spiral and a variety of law firms have locked up 55 hy. so the hy area is pretty booked up. a possibility is it could kickstart 2wtc (which fox had backed away from)? it would be nice to have the the final piece in the wtc puzzle completed. i know that morgan stanley and deutsche bank also have rfps out for new hq buildings, so if amazon picked nyc they would be throwing in with those large firms for new offices. in the end i doubt amazon will choose nyc though -- and i hope they don't. let somebody else have a shot at it. it's probably a better fit for the midwest or atlanta or something like that. no reason for them to incure the nyc headaches and costs. amazon has 7w34st now as 470k sqft of back office and 132k sqft at 1350 6th ave, plus they are looking to expand that, so its not like nyc has nothing from them: https://www.bisnow.com/new-york/news/office/amazon-manhattan-office-search-69106 edit -- it looks like the nytimes is predicting denver will get the amazon golden goose egg -- i would think it should be further east, and i would hope amazon would throw in with a perhaps less heralded metro, but denver is certainly not exactly a bad or tough guess: https://therealdeal.com/2017/09/11/why-nyc-probably-wont-win-the-5b-amazon-hq-prize/
September 24, 20177 yr right on time -- amazon advertizing signs lease for brookfield's 5 manhattan west, where it joins chase bank and whole foods and basically fills up the new tower. that's over 2k new jobs w/average 3 figure plus salaries. https://therealdeal.com/2017/09/21/its-official-amazon-is-coming-to-5-manhattan-west/
October 11, 20177 yr 30 hy aka the north tower, is up over 1000' now --- and look at this crazy shot from varick street way down in tribeca from ssp -- it looks freakin alien! :-o also, the vessel is getting mighty big and prominent now --
November 4, 20177 yr there was a ground breaking yesterday for this blockbuster office bldg next to the hudson yards. its 3 hudson square. the architect is fxfowle and its pretty boring, but it will have retail on the ground. the most interesting aspect about it is that they have no anchor tenant and moinian, the developer, is building it on spec. https://ny.curbed.com/2017/11/3/16604408/3-hudson-boulevard-hudson-yards-new-renderings
November 28, 20177 yr That triangular building is really striking. I like it a lot! And Hudson Yards appears to be basically adding like downtown Philly to Manhattan. Amazing.
November 28, 20177 yr That triangular building is really striking. I like it a lot! And Hudson Yards appears to be basically adding like downtown Philly to Manhattan. Amazing. I was just in Manhattan for the parade and you can see it clearly from the Weehawken side of the Lincoln Tunnel. I don't like it. It feels fine for Dubai, looks out of place in Manhattan. The triangular building not HY.
November 28, 20177 yr All of the new development along the western edge of the island is completely changing the impression it makes from New Jersey. It actually makes Manhattan a bit less impressive because these large buildings take the eye's attention away from everything else. The Empire State Building and Chrysler Building are being obscured from many angles. Also, the appearance of "Dubai"-type buildings is not helping things. There is a jenga building in Jersey City, the triangle thing, and now a leaning tower at Hudson Yards. Those ideas are 20+ years old. I remember seeing a pair of leaning towers in Madrid and they dominate the whole area despite not being very tall.

Particularly Chrysler. I do like the project but NY's skyline does feel a little less iconic than it did 15 years ago. I don't think the tall thin condos just north of the commercial center of Midtown/Times Square are helping either. You can throw in the new WTC buildings as well. I know the old one's were just giant boxes but they looked impressive. The new WTC buidlings are tall but their volume seems smaller when you see it from a distance compared to the old WTC.
