Hey Cleveland--what's everyone doing for internet access these days?

I finally got rid of cable TV and just left my modem (using AppleTV, Roku and other internet devices for entertainment access).  Watch local networks off an HD antenna (great for everything but Fox 8 and WOIO 19).

My Time Warner cable modem started out under $40/month for the mid-level service, now it's pushing up around $50.  Not horrendous given the amount I use it, yet I still like to shop around.

Just wondering what everyone else in the city are doing for internet without access to U-verse, Fios and other forms of competition.

There's always dial up? Smoke signals? More seriously there's the wireless hotspot options if you're not streaming media (I recommend Ting.com).

Other than that I recommend you move to South Korea. Barring that Japan and Europe are good alternatives. America is not set up for competition in this sector.

I was amazed at the high-capacity cell phone coverage in Eastern Europe. I could get decent internet service over my phone even in the rural areas of Ukraine. That was probably a cheaper alternative for them then putting phone/fiber lines all over the country, most of which still lacks landline phone services (or rural electricity!).

So I am using Cox Cable TV and Internet at home. I am happy with the service, and they are very attentive at fixing problems. Though they are a little too aggressive in trying to sell more services to me. It's pretty expensive at about $150 month.

We are out in Middleburg and set up much like you (Roku for Media Streaming, Antenna for local channels) and have WOW! for our internet and phone.  We only still have the landline as the wife works from home and spends all day on calls when shes not traveling.  We have about 15mb for internet and unlimited phone and that comes to just under $100.

Getting rid of cable saved us about $60-70 a month.  It's not without its challenges but overall I think its worth it.

Cleveland's old Brooklyn neighborhood has free wi-fi... It works great 95% of the time.
