So what happens if someone crosses the street while delivering a clicklist order and gets hit and murdered by a car. Can you imagine the national outcry?

Does Kroger go under at this point?

No way, people get smoked in Kroger parking lots all the time. My aunt got hit in a Kroger lot like 4 years ago, Kroger and the Police didn’t do anything, and Kroger couldn’t come up with video tape of the incident. Obviously it was a hit and run, the other person was backing out of a spot and backed right into her walking and now she has permanent nerve damage in her jaw, but trust me when I say Kroger and the police didn’t do a thing. This was in Bloomington, IN.

I bet bet so many people are killed each year by getting hit in parking lots but nothing is ever said or done about it to keep protected the companies. Would be an interesting investigative journalism piece.

If at all possible, DO NOT get in an accident in a private parking lot. No matter how right you were according to the law, you will lose.

It’s one thing to set up a pickup area in your own parking lot on your own property bit doing something at the Monroe lot would require lugging the delivery carts down sidewalks and crosswalks, and crossing Walnut and streetcar tracks.  I have to imagine there’s legal issues going off-premises for such things even if it is just to cross the street.

What if they turn it into a Kroger gas station?

I would actually be okay with that, if and only if that means the Shell gas station on liberty can be demolished and become replaced with new mixed use infill.

When was this first announced? For some reason I don't recall ever seeing a rendering.

On 11/20/2018 at 10:38 AM, jwulsin said:

The plans for that project facing Plum St were in this HCB packet from 22 May 2017: https://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/buildings/historic-conservation/historic-conservation-board/may-22-2017-staff-reports-and-attachment-s/

The buildings at 400 W Fourth St will be renovated into first floor office with 4 condos above. The building at 415 Plum will use the existing ground floor structure for parking (for the 3 condos at 415 Plum and 4 condos at 400 W Fourth). And above the existing structure at 415 Plum,  the new construction above will be three 2-story townhouse condos.

@troeros - the Plum St condo plans and renderings were announced in the Historic Conservation Board packet from May 2017.

More about the CVS closing downtown.

Wonder if the developer is wanting to add more floors on top of the building or not or if that building can even support additional floors.

"The CVS pharmacy at the corner of Sixth and Race streets closed Sunday, and the building's owner plans to redevelop the site to potentially house offices for a new Fortune 100 company."

"We've been talking to some very large Fortune 100 companies,'' Flaherty said. "We're working hard right now to bring something new to a great old building.''"

Seems suspicious

Apple?  Google?  Amazon?

The Josephs are going to be so mad that they got the Dennison site all ready for a mysterious Fortune company only to have one open up shop where this CVS was instead.

CVS Health Corporate? I was just looking thru the 100 list making assumptions but that would be quite ironic. I really do hope that such a company relocates here to an existing old building vs the big open lot next to the former Dennison though just for my own personal amusement.

Is that car repair shop still open on Central parkway? The rumor said it would be closed by end of December? Was this true or just a bogus rumor...

Not sure if it's closed yet, but two credible people have told me that it's definitely closing.

Maybe some Amazon air corporate jobs? Would be nice.

Seems to me that the most likely thing would be office space for a company already in the CBD like Kroger or P&G. With 84.51 right there it seems like Kroger would be the most obvious choice.

Anybody have any idea what's going on at the Sycamore Place apartments? Here are pictures of their parking lot yesterday evening and a street view image from May. They've completely torn up their parking lot.

There was something awhile back about, new entry, dog area, less parking lot more grassy tenant use areas on the corner.

Yeah that doesn't seem too far-fetched.  Amazon's selection of Nashville for their back-back office made absolutely no sense given their huge investment at CVG.  They're planning 5,000 employees long-term in the Nashville Yards development (along the freight railroad tracks that used to feed Union Station) and I believe their tower is going to be over 500,000 sq feet, so not as big as Queen City square but nevertheless a sizeable office tower.

Don't expect Amazon corporate jobs to add to street life. Those people can't leave the building ever since Amazon works them to death.

They won't be able to leave work because of the pedal wagon congestion.

Correct, but the park will be open to public use as well.

So calling it Sycamore Place at St. Xavier Park will finally be accurate haha.

Would any Cincinnati residents be able to tell me about the below church? It seems there is some construction going on.  I was doing a Google street view of a new restaurant going into the O'Bryonville area and saw this church down the street.

By the way, I was really impressed with the street wall and business district along Madison in O'Bryonville.  That's an area and neighborhood I knew nothing about.  Madison seems to go down to Woodburn Ave. where there is another great collection of buildings along Woodburn.  Very impressive.  Thanks for any info about the church or the neighborhoods.

Condos were built behind it.  The original church was burned down by an arsonist pastor, but the old front entry and bell tower were incorporated into a new church.  That new church was demolished recently to build the condos, leaving the old entry and tower standing by itself.

The Monro is closed and emptied out.

I had no idea that was the story behind it, tragic but interesting. Here is a picture I took back in November of the new construction meeting the old.

Do you have a source on this arsonist pastor? I couldn't find any information.

I wish I could remember.  I want to say it came up in conversation when we were under consideration for doing the condo project.  Supposedly the pastor was shuffled around to different churches to try to keep it on the DL.  If his name can be found out it could be cross-referenced with other churches.  I found an obscure reference to the church having been "heavily damaged by firebombs" in August of 1970 in a Xenia newspaper, https://newspaperarchive.com/xenia-daily-gazette-jan-01-1971-p-1/ whereas the fire that destroyed the sanctuary and much of the rest of the church was early in the morning New Year's Day 1971.

I always heard it burned during the unrest in the late 60's riot's/unrest that swept avondale and other neighborhoods. The priest angle isnt something I've heard but then again i never looked deep into it. Would be interesting to find out what went down.

The Avondale riots were in 1967 and 1968 so they predated this by a few years.  Of course that doesn't mean smaller incidents didn't happen later.

I was also raised Catholic, so the sweeping unpleasantries of an arsonist priest under the rug angle is way more believable. Heck they may have even started the 'riot' story as cover.

If you have a library card, you can login and access their database of Cincinnati Enquirer issues.

I think this link will work if you're logged in - it's just to a search of "Seventh Presbyterian Church fire," limited to the 1970s:

https://search-proquest-com.research.cincinnatilibrary.org/hnpcincinnatienquirershell/results/612F9080CE0D4230PQ/1?accountid=39387

There's a good article on the front page of the January 2, 1971 paper. I found another article from 1977 about the church being rebuilt, that mentions no one was ever charged for the fire, which was suspected to have been arson.

Luxury apartments near completion in Silverton

The largest development in Silverton’s history has opened its onsite leasing office for apartments at the property.

The Residences at Ag47 is a 204-unit luxury apartment development. It is the first phase of a planned $50 million mixed-use project at the corner of Montgomery and Steward roads.

Im really impressed by the amount of new hotels that are coming online in the next year or 2. I'm really excited for our CBD in the next 5 years, especially as 3cdc begins to shift away from otr and into the CBD.

I had no idea of this site existing. I knew of downtown Cincinnati site but not this section of it. Was excited to see the 7th and vine lots have a purchasing rights and that jean rivers table is wanting to do a mix used at their restaurant site. Seeing both of those redeveloped would really enhance that section near the library.

Edited by Ucgrad2015

So much info (and maybe some news?) under the mixed-use link.

1. Someone has an option on 7th and Vine lot

2. Jean Roberts building

3. Griewe is involved with lot 24 at the Banks?

4. Chong building wants to take a look at doing something with College Street (mid-block Alley.) (I wonder if this project has anything to do with the proposals for the CVS building nearby)

Pretty good reference for the people maintaining lists of their own trying to track new housing units, streetcar development, etc.

So many projects, and the MACY's  building  at Fountain Place is set to be Demo'ed! Cant say i will miss it as it seems way to busy and 90's looking for my taste. I wish something huge was set for there but at least what they are proposing is taller than the current building.

Something huge COULD be proposed for there. At minimum they know they want 4-5 stories of retail and office, but then are in the RFP stage for residential above. That could mean a large tower (and likely does). I think it's just too early to really know what they're exactly going to do so that's why the details are thin on the residential side of things.

Living right at 7th and Race I can tell you that there has been no movement at all at TownePlace Suites by Marriott.  On the other hand we've actually seen demo going on at the proposed Kinley Hotel so that seems to be moving slowly.

Two mid to high rises apartments for the 7th and vine lot as well jean Roberts would really liven that area up.

I haven't heard anything about the rehab of the Second National Bank building at 9th & Main since it was originally announced. That's a shame because it seemed like a really cool project, rehabbing the existing building and constructing a new modern addition on the parking lot next to it. I wonder if that project never got off the ground or was nothing more than a concept that never went anywhere.

Speaking of things that have fallen off the radar, anyone know if the rehab of the Garfield Suites will ever be resurrected?

Hopefully with the construction of 8th and main and success (hopefully), they will move forward with that project as long as it’s an actually development.

Nothing has gone on in there for easily over a year.  It's a complete eyesore and really makes the area around the library not very safe.  The city, 3CDC and whoever else really need to do some work on Vine St between 7th and Court because it's a complete ghost town right now.  My girlfriend and I won't even walk on that part of Vine at night.

Well, 3CDC wanted to buy the Library's North Building and convert it into another use, which would have brought more life to that part of the CBD, but a bunch of "anti-gentrification activists" blocked that from happening...

I have no clue what's happening with the Garfield project though.

According to the DCI site, the owner is looking for a new GC to take over the project.

Yeah when I saw the work on Garfield starting I was not too hopeful as it was clear to me they were not utilizing a competent GC.
