Cleveland: Need help finding affordable office rent for tech start-up

Hey guys,

Recently, a tech company I'm involved with has received enough funding to move into a much needed HQ.

One business partner wants to stay in the suburbs, while I, of course, want to have a Cleveland OH address.

Here's basically our parameters for the first year:

- One to two office suites would work perfectly

- Able to spend $500-$800 a month

- Have access to some sort of conference or meeting room

We have already connected with Jumpstart, CWRU, and NorTech...but we're looking for a little more outside the box ideas before we decide.

Thoughts?  Thanks!

Wow, congrats, MH!!  You might also check with Tyler Village and Hemmingway (Geis) about their developments in Cleveland.  For suburban space, you might check with LaunchHouse in Shaker Heights (http://www.launchhouse.com/).  You could also check with the CDC in Tremont and Ohio City to see if there are any small commercial projects with available office space.  Finally, it's super conventional (nothing wrong with that), but some of the B & C buildings downtown might be able to offer you a good package.  You could ask KJP about his experience in the City Club building, for example.

Good luck!

Reach out to "Leandog".  They are a tech company that has had success and are leasing space in the old hornblowers restaurant in Northcost Harbor.  They may have some suggestions or even want to help.

MuRrAy HiLL, I recommend you check out the Club Level suites at the City Club Building, and similar offices at the Superior Building. EV Bishoff (http://www.evbco.com/) owns and operates both buildings. We have a 300 sf office on the 10th floor of the City Club building where we pay a shade over $500 per month which includes rent, on-site security, electricity, wi-fi, shared conference room, kitchen/eating area, law library, and business center (copier, fax).

Here are some images I shared with my board while I was checking out offices in the City Club building......

There is transit available right out front of the building with the HealthLine and the E-Line Trolley (free), plus an enclosed walkway (from the third floor) into an adjoining parking deck which costs just $8 to park all day. On the ground floor of the City Club building has a CVS and two good restaurants -- Cleveland Pickle (http://www.clevelandpickle.com/) and the Black Dog Kitchen (http://www.blackdogkitchenandbar.com/). There are tons of other restaurants nearby, with lots of new offerings on Euclid and in the arcades.

I think this intersection (East 9th & Euclid) is going to be a greater place to be in a few years, with the refurbishment of the Breuer Tower and hopefully the Schofield Building one of these days!!

I hear there is space available in the old Huntington Building

Not for long. The Ukranian Mafyia is closing it down unless the county pays them.........  :shoot:

Thanks for all the reponses everyone (including the humorous ones!)

City Club and Leandog definitely look like they deserve a visit.

I'd contact Graham Veysey. He owns the old firehouse in Ohio City on w.29th & Church (across from CMA's new Transformer Station). He's buying another large mixed-use building at this intersection and has some big plans. If you're interested in getting into something before the rest of the area wakes up to its trajectory..

Also, check with CDCs like Detroit Shoreway and Waterloo.  They may have some grant money for startups laying around :)
