Posted January 26, 201312 yr Hello everyone! Our current server configuration is struggling to keep up with our server needs so an upgrade is essential. Sometime in mid to late Feb we will be moving the site to a new more powerful dedicated server. During this time the site/forum may not be accessible. The downtime could be anywhere from 4 hours to 48 hours. Once I get the new server ordered I will put out concrete dates and times.

January 26, 201312 yr Now to help subsidize the server and the time put in, I sincerely hope that a number of UO regulars sign up for Premium Memberships!

January 27, 201312 yr Great to hear! I've been getting lots of "the server is under high stress" messages.
January 27, 201312 yr So who is buying a premium membership? We've had one new member sign up so far.
January 27, 201312 yr That was me. You might want to mention where to sign up for a premium membership. It took me a few minutes to locate it under the "My Proile" section. I guess I just mentioned it :yap:

February 12, 201312 yr For those interested, this is the server configuration we're going to go with: AMD Phenom II x6 1045t 6 Cores / 6 Threads 2.7Ghz / 3.2Ghz Turbo 8GB DDR3 RAM 128 GB SSD Cent OS 64-Bit
February 13, 201312 yr Thank you Rich and Chris and everyone who runs UO. Thank you for your contributions as well!
February 18, 201312 yr Just a reminder, the server move will take place tomorrow and possibly into wed. Please plan accordingly!
January 29, 20169 yr Our current server configuration has treated us fairly well the past 3 years. With that being said, it is time to move to a new dedicated server. Spending 3 years on the same hardware increases the likelihood off hardware failure and downtime for the site. The new move will begin a week from today(2/5) and should take approximately 24 hours. Please plan accordingly. New Server specs: Intel Xeon E3-1220v1 3.1 GHz / 3.4 GHz Turbo 4 Cores/ 4 Threads 32GB DDR3 240GB SSD 20TB Monthly Transfer

February 4, 20169 yr Change of plans! Due to time constraints, we're going to delay the server upgrade for an additional 5-6 months.
February 4, 20169 yr Will it fix problems like text not breaking at all? It doesn't happen all the time. It can make for an interesting read on a 27"
January 7, 20178 yr It is time again!! The site will be moved to a new server on Wednesday Jan 10th. I'm hoping to wait until late in the evening (after 10pm). If all goes well, the site will be on the new server come Thursday morning.
January 12, 20178 yr Appears that the move went smooth... Thanks! "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
January 13, 20178 yr Everything is switched over and setup correctly. It was a long process, but necessary. The only thing that I am aware of is the main page - when you click on a link, it opens, but it opens in the whole page and use of your back button is the only way to get back. Before, we used the include function to automatically add the header and footer page, but since the move it will no longer work correctly. I've tried many different fixes to no avail. Please let me know if there are any other issues I've missed.
January 13, 20178 yr Hi, Thanks for your efforts! Just an FYI, about 2-3 hours ago, I received an error accessing urbanohio.com stating that the account was suspended; but the site loads for me fine now. :)
January 13, 20178 yr Hi, Thanks for your efforts! Just an FYI, about 2-3 hours ago, I received an error accessing urbanohio.com stating that the account was suspended; but the site loads for me fine now. :) I suspended the site on the old server. You must have been accessing the old site. DNS can take up to 48 hours to update in some cases. We're glad it's finally working for you though!
January 16, 20178 yr I'm missing "New" on the main page. under Recent Forum Topics: I was noticing an apache error with the coding used to make those appear, so I removed them for now. They still functioned fine, but I don't like seeing errors. I hope to bring them back soon.
January 16, 20178 yr Thanks for the update! I actually did not know about the premium membership so glad it was brought up, I am happy to help UO! Question: Will we ever get Tapatalk compatibility back? I sure miss it
January 17, 20178 yr Will we ever get Tapatalk compatibility back? I sure miss it I attempted to install three different versions of tapatalk and they all gave the same errors as before. Maybe we can try again once 2.1 is released.
January 19, 20178 yr anyone else having issues watching youtube videos on the site? The actual youtube page works. I tried both internet explorer and chrome and haven't been able to watch youtube videos on UO
January 19, 20178 yr ^ I have the same issue. The Youtube videos won't display on UO. As a temporary workaround, I "quote" the post, the URL displays in the reply box, and I can then copy-paste the URL.
November 13, 20186 yr There will be downtime this Friday into Saturday for a server move. The move itself will not take but an hour or two. Once the move is complete, we will have to make DNS changes, which always take as little as a few minutes all the way up to 48 hours. There may be a few issues here and there, but everything should be working correctly by Monday.
November 17, 20186 yr When moving to the new server, we lost all post made yesterday, 11/16/2018. Just a fyi.
October 13, 20204 yr Time for another move. I will be moving the site/forum to a new server this Fri/Sat. The move will start late Fri evening and hopefully be complete early Sat. From there it will be up to DNS to update to the new IP address.
October 13, 20204 yr Any chance of Tapatalk support coming back? I know I ask this here and there, but my mobile usage of this site went from "a lot" to "almost none" since Tapatalk support was removed. The mobile web experience just isn't very good.

It may be better than mobile support of other forums, but mobile web is never as good as a native app. Tapatalk was faster and more pleasant to use. As a user who was forced to switch from SMF with Tapatalk to Invision with mobile web, I can't compare SMF mobile web to Invision mobile web (and I have no doubt you're right in that comparison), but SMF with Tapatalk was better than Invision with mobile web. October 17, 20204 yr We are now on the new server. We no longer have our own dedicated server but we do have a much more powerful VPS. The biggest issue with the move was behind the scenes email issues. Having your own email server can be difficult thanks to spammers. As of now, everything is working ok, except that emails do not seem to be delivered to yahoo addresses. I will look into the issue. And if anyone wants to know, our server is located in Virginia. Our old server was in downtown Kansas City, MO.
