Enquirer has an article about the City planning to build a new police station. Article suggests a potential cost

of 23 Million, which boggles my mind. Dan Neyer just bought Holiday Office Park for 2.6 Million, or $7.5 a sq. ft.

(Older class B, 350,000 sq. ft.). Jedson Engineering bought Centennial Plaza 1 for 1.2 Million, or $16 per sq. ft

(Mid 80's Class A - B +, 75,000 sq. ft.). I know these buildings are not "west" side, but why do you have to

build new? There has to be existing buildings the city can acquire and renovate for so much more less than

23 Million, could be office, a former Medical building, or a struggling strip center which is ideal for parking an

inexpensive retrofit.

Article mentions the need to triple the current district space of 13,400 sq. ft, so that would be at least 40,000 Sq. Ft.

A cost of 23 Million is $575 per sq. ft. This is an outrageous cost.

Cincinnati police move into new District 3 headquaters in Westwood

WCPO Staff

Police officers on the city's West Side officially have a new home as of Wednesday night, moving out of their historic but cramped quarters on Warsaw Avenue to a new station on Ferguson Road.

The old District 3 station in East Price Hill was built in 1907, and the department had outgrown it long ago. The new state-of-the-art $15 million building in Westwood -- the city's largest neighborhood -- doubles the district's office space to 39,000 square feet.

An active group of community members from District 3 helped pick public art for the building; etched windows and columns are designed to reflect the 14 neighborhoods on the West Side.

Out of nowhere there has been a big kerfuffle about the condition of Cincinnati's District Five headquarters. The proposed idea right now is to move them from their current small building on Ludlow Avenue to the former Cincinnati Permit Center building on Central Parkway. This seems like a great option to me. The city already owns the building so it'll just require a bit of renovation. The new facility will provide double the space and has tons of parking out front. The only minor concern is that it moves the HQ slightly farther away from the center of District Five.

^Interesting. As long as they name the lab CSI Cincinnati and use lots of neon lighting.

LOL, smart move. Way too many of these types of deals used to happen by putting out some sort request.

Better to have the experts out in front.
