I was about to tweet something specifically about 668/WYSE, such a waste of decent storefront, same goes for PNC (although that'd be much harder to change). Hopefully the City Club apts would have street level retail or something to make people want to continue down that stretch.

I actually think the frontage of the lowrise portion of the PNC Bank building could make a nice retail conversion.  The question is what would be required to cut retail frontages in between the stone piers.

I'm assuming there's desks on the other side of that area, plus would security be a concern? Maybe I'm overthinking this.

Of course there are desks in there.  It isn't vacant.  But if PNC decides it makes sense to move those desks and put retail in there, I think it could work.  Why would security be a concern?  Many, many bank buildings include retail.

And there's already a publicly accessible hallway that runs behind that office space paralleling Euclid.

Not sure what the confused mark is for. It also connects to 629 Euclid, where I just moved out of. Lots of people use it coming from the parking garage. I used the hallway every once in a while.

Downtown Cleveland lofts sell for $9.9 million

The W.T. Grant Lofts, a 73-suite building at 248 Euclid Ave. in downtown Cleveland, has sold for $9.9 million to a limited liability company led by Jason Friedman, an executive of the former Associated Estates Realty Corp., once one of the region's largest apartment concerns.

I was looking to move in there^! They had some of the best prices downtown has to offer. I wonder if they're going to increase the rent after this...

I am pretty sure that is a given.  They plan on updating individual units as they become available.

Thanks.

I'd much rather see an Apple Store, OfficeMax, or Barnes and Noble. The clothing store may not have been than large but maybe the entire first floor is.  It was the first floor of an earlier Higbee's Department Store, after all....

No!  Many have that wrong.  The building famous for the Christmas trees is gone; it was where the parking lot is between the Union Club and the Sterling Building.  Sterling LIndner, which changed its name several times over the decades, in its late years did take over the current Sterling Building, but it wasn't there very long (closed in 1968). That building, as I wrote, had been Higbee's until the store moved to Public Square in 1931. Originally the store at E. 13th had the beautiful terra cotta facing and was four floors but several were added by Higbee's.  Of course, when someone gave the Sterling Building its current named it must have confused people because, again, it wasn't part of the department store for that long.

My grandmother worked at Sterling Lindner almost 100 years ago.

Yes, I was thinking of posting a photo.  Thanks for saving me the trouble.  In the '20s there were two groupings of department stores - May Co./Bailey's and Higbee's/ Halle's, Sterling-Lindner-Davis, and between them Taylor's.

^And those two groupings of department stores lasted well into the 50s and 60s. They were a big part of the behind the scenes lobbying for and against the downtown subway in the 1950s. Higbees and May Co were very much against it, while the PHS stores lobbied hard for it.

As the area fills in with today's retail and more families move downtown, it sure would be great to bring back Mr. Jingeling (Halle's 7th Floor) at Christmas time!

Tales from my Grandmother:  She said predecessor Lindner Company (pricier than Halle's) was the most upscale component of S-L-D and abbreviated 'company' as 'coy.' leading many to call the company by two words: "Lindner Coy". Anybody who called it that plainly didn't shop there.

Seeds & Sprouts VII - Early intel on real estate projects

Parker's restaurant will reopen as Bett's

Following a renovation that has been under way during the pandemic, Parker's Downtown will reopen under the name "Bett's" and with a new concept at the end of this month, according to the building's owner CRM Companies.

Although the menu and brand is not yet publicly available, the new restaurant hasn't changed ownership. It will continue to be owned by James and Victoria Mowbray. Parker's was a 120-seat restaurant which served the public as well as customers of the Kimpton Schofield Hotel at the corner of Euclid Avenue and East 9th Street in downtown Cleveland.

Anyone hear anything about the Allen Sullivan house at 7218 Euclid? One of the last remaining Millionaires Row homes in Cleveland, and theres been literally 0 effort to save it. Its a damn shame because im sure if a developer buys it, its going to be torn down.

It would be nice if they could save one of them and turn it into a Millionaires Row museum.  I was hoping they could have done that with the Stager-Beckwith mansion, but they turned it into a children's museum instead.

I feel like they already have a Millionaires Row museum as apart of the Western Reserve Museum (Cleveland History Center).  If I remember right that mansion was actually moved.  The tour was really amazing as it featured different furniture and artifacts from different parts of Cleveland's History including a room that was filled with Jeptha Wade's furniture and belongings.

Is there a specific threat to it, or are you just commenting on the general neglect it has suffered over the years?

iHeartMedia moves offices, studios from suburbs to downtown

Today, iHeartMedia Cleveland announced plans to move their regional office to downtown Cleveland. The new location will be at 668 Euclid Ave. and will include a 10-year agreement lease with K&D Group.

The new agreement will move iHeartMedia Cleveland’s nine radio stations, along with the company’s sales, marketing, digital and Total Traffic operation from Independence to the new state-of-the-art street-level facility. The new offices are scheduled to open by the end of 2021.

That would be so cool

Or some signage on that wall.

I can’t stress enough how big of a deal them moving downtown is. Especially for the cool factor and relevance factor. There are times where they bring in celebrity artists to do small performances at the studios, not to mention their own celebrity talent. Geraldo is on WTAM. And Rover is syndicated with WMMS as his flagship. This is such a good look for the city

100% YES!! Now let’s get Channel 8 and Channel 5 into new digs downtown.

"The company will move about 100 employees into the central city sometime this fall, said Keith Hotchkiss, iHeart's North Ohio president, in a phone interview. It inked a 10-year lease for about 10,000 square feet at the 668 Euclid office-retail and apartment building. The street-level suite was previously occupied by Wyse Advertising, which Falls Communications of Cleveland acquired in 2019."  https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/iheartmedia-cleveland-prepares-return-downtown

100 jobs--and this fall -- that's great.

Really hope they have a performance area where you can have intimate sessions live on air. I'll admit I don't listen to many of the iHeart stations in town but seems like something that would be really cool. I know of a lot of alternative stations that have this type of setup (KEXP (Seattle), CFNY-FM (edge.ca, Toronto), WYEP (Pittsburgh), etc etc).

If anything I've seen the mobs to just get coffee at MGK's spot in the flats, imagine if any RMFH-playing celeb was in a Euclid facing studio for an interview/performance.

668 was such a waste of prime sidewalk space, glad to see it activated.

This is made to order for  cross promotions between events that occur at the Rock  Hall  and  shows at Playhouse Square, RMFH and other venues downtown. It should help reinforce  Cleveland as a highly attractive and vital media market for all kinds of music artists. And for just adding extra energy downtown. Congrats CLE !

City Architecture announced they are moving to the 121 Larchmere Building.  I'm hoping this also means their present location, 3200 Euclid Avenue, may have a very different future ahead.
