Noticed construction on the north side of Euclid Ave. between E. 12th and 13th. Anyone have any thoughts on what's going on? Looks like i twas a surface lot.

 

The Union Club bought the lot and somehow is deconstructing the surface lot to have better access to the below grade parking garage behind it

Someone told me the Ace people are only rebuilding what was there after a storm damaged the facade of their building back there. Just rebuilding with insurance dollars. The storefront by the sidewalk also had some work done recently. Sure I'd like to see Ace restore the facade but that's not what the friend thinks is going on.

 

There has been a surface lot between the Union Club and the Sterling Building but I can't imagine anything going up there.

Hoping that work on the bldg. just to the east of Dunham Tavern gets going soon. That red on Dunham's walls - could they possibly be changing the color to that"  Wish they would! I drove down E. 61st yesterday and took a better look. I don't see much of an overhaul going on here either.

 

The lot b/t Union Club and Sterling Building was bought by the Union Club and somebody mentioned on this board how they would, and I might be paraphrasing, "extensively landscape" the top of what is this underground parking area. That sounds good to me given it's an eyesore now.

Yes - an employeed of the Union Club told me a new entrance down to the underground parking garage is being constructed.

So Huntington will be vacating the massive bank lobby and move next door in the corner of the building on Oct. 17th! The big question, of course, is what's to become of the gorgeous banking space. Someone in a newspaper suggestd CMA's auxiliary facility would have better in the Ameritrust Rotunda, across the street, that in its planned W. 29th space in Ohio City. I saw that building recently and it is quite attractive the the location with some merit. But imagine if it were to go in the vacated Huntington space....

 

Guard told me he's heard a few rumors of what might go there. Can anyone here share any of these rumors? Or, better yet, proposals more concrete?

I talked to Joe Marrinuchi today, he said CRM will recommence work on the Schofield Building as soon as the Calfee Building is complete, and that due to the economy they had to finish one before they could tackle the other.

Excellent news, I believe they are scheduled to finish the Calfee building relatively soon.

Great news, I was looking at that building today hoping progress would occur soon!

I walked down Euclid yesterday between E.9th and Public Square and it was good to see more and more of the store fronts filled up in that area.  I've driven thru the area a handfull of times, but it has been a while since I've been able to walk up and down the street.  A lot of the restaurants in the area had people in them and there were people out walking up and down Euclid.  It was nice to see the new Environments for Business, Tri-C Hospitality Management Center and Positively Cleveland store fronts and the work being done on the CLE Clothing Co store.  All good signs for this area!!!

BTW, my employer All Aboard Ohio is going to be filling in Euclid Avenue a little bit start Dec. 1 when we move our statewide office from downtown Columbus to downtown Cleveland. We have given up on the State of Ohio doing much, if anything productive with rail and transit for at least the next three years. There is a lot more happening with our issue in northern Ohio, and besides I live here and I'm not moving to Columbus. So my board of trustees let me move the office to Cleveland. That's awesome news. I'm jealous, I work in Independence. I didn't think I'd miss working downtown so much, but Independence may be the most boring place for a young person to work in the area.

So after Ernst and Young, and Tucker and Ellis move to the building in the flats, and since Huntington basically moved their headquarters to the old 200 Public Square building.....do you think the old Huntington building on 9th and Euclid will be emptied out and residential will be created there? I mean it makes sense because Cleveland needs new residential since every apartment is full and there is no point of letting that massive structure sit unoccupied. On a side note does anyone know the fate of the key center? I know it's on Superior but I'm just curious thanks!

Yes, there are quite a few business there, but you should also be impressed with Euclid, south side, east of E. 14th. Much of the stretch across from CSU is now filled with new businesses - mainly food-related.  Then, of course, there's the stretch on both sides of Euclid from Dunham Tavern to E. 79th with new construction and renovation.  Exciting.

Lafont your nickname should be "Mr. Euclid Avenue" (pretty clever there huh?) as this is clearly your favorite thread in which to post.

It is right now. I have an extensive Euclid Avenue collection featuring everything on Euclid Avenue from Public Square to Mayfield, from the beginning to ca. 1935, and have written several articles on the street - history and plans.

This big bright sign is what's needed down there, this area is essentially CSU's eastern edge with the University Studios apartments across the street and college students usually around -- down to E. 30th now.

But I cannot think, for the llife of me, why they put ithe sign above the DNA/Paternity Testing Ctr next door. Unless that is relocating and Pasha Cafe is eventually expanding to take up that adjacent storefront. If not, somebody hung that up wrong.

Is it possible for everyone to be aware of all the specific Euclid threads?  There is so much happening that it's sometimes overwhelming, with that being said, maybe strive to use the "filling in Euclid" thread for developments you conscientiously know don't belong in any other thread?

I agree this thread overlaps and duplicates other thread. So who wants to spend the time to divvy up the posts in the 48 pages of this thread to other threads?

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- State tax credits aimed at historic preservation will help developers bring 103 apartments to two buildings in downtown Cleveland, a market where demand for rental housing is outpacing supply.

 

The Truman Building and the Rosetta Center building, both on Euclid Avenue, were the two Cleveland winners in a round of awards announced today by the Ohio Department of Development.

In 2010, when the Jewish Federation left its former headquarters at 1750 Euclid Ave. in downtown Cleveland for the Mandel Building in Beachwood, it remained in possession of the downtown property.

 

It was announced that Federation would give the building to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District on a 10-year, rent-free lease to house the junior and senior classes of its MC2STEM magnet high school.

 

“The Cleveland school board, after their own due diligence, determined the downtown building would not serve their purpose,” said Michael D. Siegal, Federation board chair, further explaining that the decision was made in fall 2011.

 

“We did engage in exploratory conversations with the Jewish Federation to see if that facility was a good fit for one of our STEM schools,” she said. “Had it been the right fit for all of the programming and all of the partnerships that occur, we would’ve gone down that route. … The building is configured more for business activities.”

Crain’s Business posted a whole Euclid Avenue expose today with stories, photo gallery’s and maps about the transformations taking place along Euclid Avenue.

       

In one of the stories, “Developers try to reverse retail decline”, there are some updated and interesting tidbits about Euclid and the arcades.  It seems with the improved occupancy rates in the hotels that they have abandoned plans for some residential conversion of the old Arcade, as well as deciding on a culinary focused retail plan with improvements that will be made in 2013 (I was hoping for more of an independent boutique theme myself since Ohio city as well as nearly every other area seems to be focusing on culinary) .

Glad to hear they want to revive retail in The Arcade.  For some reason, it makes me more excited that it's a Toronto-based company as opposed to locals like MRN or Forest City.  Shows that outsiders believe in Cleveland and want to put their money where their mouth is.  Hopefully we'll get some fresh ideas.

I don't know if anyone else saw this, and this was through snowy healthline windows, but I'm pretty sure I saw window boards and mast climber framework going up in front of the CAC.  Anyone know what's going on there? 

Ok, wanted to make sure I wasn't seeing things so I walked by at lunch.  It's Coon Restoration and it's definately full-on mast climbers so probably a facade restoration at a minimum.
