Looks like there are two elevator cores.  One for the hotel guests and the other for the sky bar and public areas in the base?  I seem to remember that the sky bar needed its own elevators.

Also it appears that the concrete floor level is up to the base of the first floor level.  Could steel erection be soon?

As a Cuyahoga County resident, I am a part owner of the downtown Cleveland Hilton.  In the interest of checking up on my investment, and because I had a free night certificate that was about to expire

Based on the Hotels I have worked in, one bank for customers, one bank for room service/housekeeping/maintenance issues.

That's either water -- or ice! Little chilly out today!!

From Crain's: Sweat and cash went bigtime into the 600-room downtown CLE convention center hotel.

I am sure that there has been progress in the past week, but it does not look like it.  The two elevator cores look to be at the same level.

I am getting impatient and can't wait for this to go skyward.  When is the steel erection supposed to start?

There has been a lot of progress. They poured the first elevated deck over the weekend.  The cores have risen at least a floor this week. Steel erection started today or will start tomorrow. They've been installing the connections and anchor bolts.

No need to be impatient. The job is on schedule. Vertical construction is not the quickest type to perform.

Also the webcam has not been 'live' since the 10th.

Hmm, I just drove by earlier today thinking the exact opposite. I was a bit surprised at how much the elevator cores have jumped in the last 2 weeks!

In the past when I worked in residential construction, the rough frame seems to go up in quick spurts, with weeks of 'non activity' to those on the outside. If no progress is seen, its probably because there is a ton of work down in the basement work that needs to be completed PERFECTLY before upward progress is seen.

From my view, steel erection started Tuesday.  Pics to come...

I drove by on Tuesday at 6:00 pm, and there were five cement trucks lined up on Ontario, ready to pour. There's lots going on.

We have steel...

Great pics.  With webcam frozen we'll need more!!

I have a view of this place from my office, so I will try to get you guys some pictures as this project progresses. My view isn't quite as great as Oldmanladyluck's, though!

Another.

^^ ^ Thanks- and yeah the view of the mall that I have from my desk will be gone soon enough!

Duh, no wonder why it looks like nothing is happening.  They better get the webcam working soon.

Yes, we have steel!

Looks like things are moving along nicely.  I wonder how much they'll have done before the winter cold and whether there will be any "inside" by that time for workers to work indoors.

I just checked and the webcam was updated 2 hours ago

There won't be a winter this year. I sold my soul for the Cleveland rights to secure a three-month extension on autumn. You can thank me later.

From what I can see, from thje progress photos, they seem to be working on the 4 story atrium/conference rooms with structural steel, and the tower itself will be PT concrete.  Is that right?  Looks like one skinny tower!

Does anyone know the difference in construction time between concrete and steel construction methods for a project like this?  Just wondering because by these pictures it seems like in a short time the steel has caught up and surpassed the concrete work.

Nice pictures that are very much appreciated.  Please keep posting the progress.

It looks like the third floor has a very high ceiling.  Is this where the ballroom is going to be?

I believe that, in general, steel goes up quicker than pt concrete.  I know there are some on here who could chime in with a more detailed answer, but that is what I've been told when looking at different construction types.

What did the new Hilton hotel say to the construction workers? "I'm floored!"

PSA: Updates on Medical Mart and Hilton Hotel to be Provided on Tuesday

Posted By Eric Sandy on Mon, Oct 27, 2014 at  1:08 PM

The crane operators are certainly keeping busy at the corner of Ontario and Lakeside these days. And they must, what with the RNC's de facto deadline looming closer with each passing day. The earnest beginnings of the snazzy new downtown Hilton are visible and aspirational.

And surrounding the hotel framework, the Global Center for Health Innovation and the Cleveland Convention Center are prepping for the Creative Minds in Medicine Conference this weekend. The county's biggest projects are looking more active than ever.

...Which is all outwardly good news, and the public will get updates on the above institutions tomorrow when Jeffrey Appelbaum, the attorney representing the county's interests therein, will speak at Cuyahoga County Council's Committee-of-the-Whole meeting at 3 p.m. There's no word yet on what we should be expecting from the presentations, but anyone who's been watching the fun unfold downtown might want to check in.

Had a nice late evening pass over downtown on approach to Hopkins Saturday. So here's more of an overhead view than we're used to. ;-)
