As a Cuyahoga County resident, I am a part owner of the downtown Cleveland Hilton.  In the interest of checking up on my investment, and because I had a free night certificate that was about to expire

It is great to see the "stainless steel" glass panels covered in dimensional detailing.  Along with the canopy, the podium base is getting better everyday

^^At first when I saw the concrete going up on the edges of the building I thought "ugh this is a disaster" but now that I see they contain some architectural details I feel better about them. They still create a sort of dead zone/unwelcoming feeling IMO but not as much if it was just a plain jane concrete slab.

How about some interior views! Here ya go...

This is going to have a nice impact on the skyline especially from the Northern side.

I have a question though.  On the Northern elevator core, there are gaps on the west side that are not on the Southern elevator core.  And these are on the edge of the building.  Are there going to be windows to the outside from the elevators?

That would make sense, one set of elevators is for guests, the other for housekeeping and room service. I'd guess the north set is for the public.

Per the webcam, looks like they are preparing for the final (I think) crane jump.

I am a long time reader, first time contributor to this forum. Does anyone know at what floor level the angled section of the structure that tilts toward the mall in deference to Burnham begins? I truly love the design. It shows a respect for the past in the visual language of the future. Another example of excellent architecture for CLE.

It appears the tilt begins at the 26th floor.  The lowest point with the angled tilt along the mall side appears to be at the 22nd floor

Thank you Dave68.

I'm really anxious to see that section take shape because even at the structural steel stage, I think it will be interesting to watch.

Welcome ArtMasterCLE! Don't be a stranger.

Not to worry KJP. Now that I'm plugged in, I plan to be very active. Thank you for the warm welcome.

Several of the earlier posts were discussing Hilton's sensitivity to context. In my opinion, CooperCarry not only does a great job of contextual design, but their building pays true homage to its neighboring traditional buildings at the mall/pedestrian level by reflecting those structures in its glass curtain wall. Then, as the building progresses to the skyline/distant view, CooperCarry modifies the visual language of the curtain wall, leading the eye skyward with a streak of light and finally tilting the building toward the mall as if bowing in the prescience of the greats of architecture's past.

That final bow, represented by the tilting top becomes the signature statement on the skyline that seems to say "while I bow in the presence of the greats of the past, I assert myself as the future."

Construction progress photos from this morning. One of the most beautiful mornings of the year....

Great pics KJP!

I agree, it was a beautiful, crisp morning. Great light for photographing the multi-dimensional character of this building. You captured that aspect beautifully-especially the first pic showing the southwest elevation from the east side of Mall B.

I love the the way the character of the light affects the color and reflectivity of the glass curtain wall, making it take on a different personality almost every time you look at it, much like Moussavi's MOCA at Uptown.

Thanks for the great pics!

This morning was exceptionally nice.

Cleveland looks so good in this picture, it almost looks like a rendering of what might be built, someday

This should be the perspective the convention marketers use.

Even the Injustice Center can't ruin that angle!!

I agree with you Whipjacka. It's a beautiful view of the contemporary Key Tower, the World Center, Convention Center and the new Hilton--the entire convention ensemble in one dynamic shot. Best of all, the majestic Terminal Tower stands proudly in the background. This view will be even more spectacular at night with that streak of light on the Hilton leading the eye skyward.

^ Gobal Center* (which we're apparently calling it "the Globe")

Are the core towers at max height?  Hard to count floors with curtain wall going up now.

yes

^gottaplan, I don't believe that they are at max height.

^Right I count 4 more floors to go with the elevator core. If you look at the crane it would be about two more sections to go ,about 40 feet.

You are correct.

Here it is without that nasty light pole in the shot.....

I don't. I like the buildings "soaring" toward a common point in the sky. I think they feel more impressive and imposing that way.

Don't you wish Turner had a Webcam at this, more pedestrian oriented angle? It offers a very impressive view of the skyline and the Mall. Hmmm... Hey, KJP, how about a shot per day from this exact same spot?! Just kiddingly--though it would be nice.

I'm sure a young person on this forum would be willing to do so for beer money.

Great shots. I wish that was my client's tower crane, we would be asking to buy that pic.

i feel sorry for guests with rooms facing that side, but what a win for everyone else because it will help hide it!

^If you have a room facing west yes you will see the Justice Center but you will also experience fantastic sunsets over the lake.  Nothing like them.

Awesome shot from a fresh vantage point, MayDay!

View from the best dentist's office in town.

I feel like you're at the dentist all the time! Nice and healthy teeth. it will be interesting to see if there is more of an impact when this is topped out. It's hidden by most views at this height.

I have been meaning to take pictures forever, but it fills in a nice hole in the skyline when coming over the Detroit-Superior Bridge  :-D

I don't know if they added another webcam or maybe I just never noticed -view #4- before.

There has always been 4 webcam views.

Cell Phone Pics from late Sunday afternoon (June 28, 2015)

All this rain we've had and they still need to use the sprinklers lol

I would imagine that slope, which is just a green roof, drains very quickly. So it probably has to be kept heavily watered.

BTW, beautiful lighting in those pictures. I always like putting a low sun behind some trees in my pictures. Gives it a "Heaven on Earth" type of feel. :)
