As a Cuyahoga County resident, I am a part owner of the downtown Cleveland Hilton.  In the interest of checking up on my investment, and because I had a free night certificate that was about to expire

After seeing it in person, this is indeed a nice looking building and a great addition to Cleveland's skyline.

thank you Ed Fitzgerald....

Am I crazy, or was that long narrow 4th floor balcony-type concrete protrusion facing the mall not on any of the renderings? I couldn't recall seeing that feature, and in a quick look back at some of the renderings, I can't quite see it. Maybe this is a replacement, of sorts, of the outdoor space we lost on the 4th floor of the Lakeside frontage?

The newer renderings have the balcony, earlier renderings do not.

If I were to rate this building I would give it a solid 8-8.5. The design gives Cleveland something it lacked, a modern glass building that strays away from the beige days. The street presence that is has is impressive, and I like that the valet area is not on St.Clair but close. The height of course gives it points in my book as well, speaking of which, I think that they did as good of a job as you could do paying homage to the surrounding buildings while taking that step forward and going vertical. The one big downer to me is the large amount of blank concrete walls that are apart of the structure. I believe that it creates a dead zone. Overall though the project looks great.

Flew over downtown on Saturday and barely was able to get a view of the construction site. So cool to see it from this angle! Enjoy.

I drive by that building regularly. It's so nice to see a building rising daily in downtown. I really like what they are doing with the Mall.

Great view.  With that construction and public square, the only thing in picture number 1 that is upsetting are the parking lots at the top and right of the picture.  Hopefully some day will be filled with nucleus and another Jacobs building

Lets add to the hopefulness that the County can come up with funds to demolish the Justice center and build a 30-40 story mixed use tower! :drunk:....One can dream. :|

Are the elevator cores topped out now?  The July project update states "Concrete construction is continuing on Level 30", so it seems like just a few more concrete floors left to match where the top of the elevator cores are.

I am going to answer my own question.

Yes, based on the earth cams from today, they are topped out.  They have removed the forms on the south side elevator core and there is a flag on top.

The next interesting construction milestone is going to be the "cutout" for the sky bar.

^Yep, good eye. They must have done that today.

Maybe. :-) If I'm counting right, we have one more normal floor of glass to be installed on the east side—after that will be the first to include a section of the facade that starts to angle out. I've been eagerly waiting for that, to see how it'll look.

High five!

Very funny, JG!

Now every time I look at the Fountain of Eternal Life I'll have to laugh at your observation.

Lol, as much as I love the glass, how awful to see it reflecting the Justice Center! ;-)

Let's see if we can do two better :-)

Tell those workers in the first photo to GET BACK TO WORK! ;)

The cut outs in the concrete of the north elevator shaft... Did we ever find out if it's so the elevator has a glass wall to look out on the lake/city? That would be such an amazing addition!

I'm guessing those might simply be windows on each floor's elevator lobby area, like you see in many hi-rise hotels ... ?

^correct. Elevator lobby windows.

^terrific pictures

^^ That view of the tower is going to look so awesome once it's complete.

I really like the profile of this building (wide on one side, narrow on the other).

Peak-a-boo. Taken from the corner of W.Superior and W.6th

Agggghhhhhh that parking lot is burning my eyes!

^I said the same thing.

Eyeing the renderings, here's where I think the angled portion of the facade will fall (starting with the next level of glass). Ignore the lower left half of the line, lol, I suck at Photoshop. ;-)

Hilton Cleveland Downtown hotel remains on track and underground walkway to Huntington Garage is a possibility

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The $276 million Hilton Cleveland Downtown hotel remains on track and on budget, the project manager told Cuyahoga County Council on Tuesday.

There is still a chance that an underground walkway could be built below Lakeside Avenue to connect the hotel and Huntington Garage, where guests will park, said Jeffrey Appelbaum, the Cleveland lawyer managing the project for the county.

Appelbaum said some breakthroughs in proposed engineering could overcome initial concerns about the cost of the walkway. But he he said he is not ready to provide details, including the cost.

Hilton's officials told council they are actively marketing the 600-room hotel, which will include 37 themed suites and meeting spaces named after bridges.

"It is not yet ready for prime time, but we are close to being able to talk about some options," he said.

The county could pay for the walkway out of a $34 million contingency fund that will remain when the project is completed, he said.

Damn. I wanted the contingency fund used for the downtown multi-modal transportation facility! The facility could host convention/tour buses in addition to intercity, regional commuter and GCRTA buses.

They're finally installing the angled-out portion of the eastern facade. See attached pic from the webcam this morning. I duped it below and highlighted the angled panes in red, in case it's hard for anyone to pick out. Should become much more apparent as we get more of these angled panes, as they'll reflect light from lower in the sky.

Turning on to Lakeside from E 9th, the Justice Center has now officially 'vanished'

Nice cloud mural on the side! :)

^ FYI according to my estimation they're averaging approx. one floor of windows per week.

Some assorted shots from yesterday ...

I might as well add one

Shall we reflect on this for a moment?

Might as well throw up mine too.

Looks like they'll easily have Hilton enclosed by winter for the inside work... Thanks for the photo updates.

How unfortunate.....

Ewww.

^I agree with the sentiment... At the very least, the Hotel's lower level attachment (in the front of the photo) will likely blunt JC's less-than-pretty reflection... The taller, unobstructed opposite side of the hotel will hold no such reflections ... thankfully!
