I was logging on to update you all on CLE and it seems I was deleted :( makes me sad.

anyway,

Cleveland has been...interesting so far. I have had some drama and some real questionable moments but overall I'm not regretting my decision. I do have some questions though!

What do you Clevelanders do for fun besides movies and summer festivals? Like, what happens when the action dies down?

Hope you all are well.

You created your username in the past few months, correct?  That's the time period that was lost because of website server issues.

Have you checked out the local park scene?  Between Cuyahoga Valley National Park and the Metroparks, there are a lot of really interesting areas to explore.  Do you like history?  Lots of hidden gems to discover in Cleveland.  What are your interests?  There's also the typical options of sporting events and, um, finding new/unique places to get drunk, if that's what you're into.

What neighborhood did you choose? I don't remember.

Also do you mind sharing the issues you have had if they aren't personal?

The server ate about a billion posts and some usernames, it was a big mess. That's why some of the "recent" threads now are from like a year ago.

I'd be interested to know the "issues" as well if you can share.

Summer is a very active time here. Winters can be very harsh so people take full advantage of the unlimited number of fairs and festivals, and go on short road trips to events all over the state. There are a lot of opportunities to ski nearby if you are into that, a lot of people here ski, and there is sledding and tobogganning and cross country - some of those outings are group outings organized through the Metroparks.

We have one of the best theater scenes in the country here. In addition to Playhouse Square, which is the 2nd biggest theater district outside of broadway for professional theater, we have more than a dozen smaller professional theaters that dot the city and suburban landscape. Stan Hywett Hall and the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival put on shows all summer, the latter doing performances that travel to different pockets of the city so everyone has a chance to view. Dobama, Near West, Cleveland Public Theater are just a few others.

The cleveland public library and cuyahoga county library host great seminars and guest speakers, for free. Last year I saw Peter Bogdonovich speak, and also local-based but internationally-known food author Michael Ruhlman, who spoke with Dan Hill of Blue Hill at Stone Barns in New York and Penny De Los Santos, an international, award-winning food photographer. They also host local folks for Q&A like the editor of the plain dealer or politicians or the head of RTA or what have you.

We have a very good indie music scene in cleveland and there are little music venues dotting all the suburbs as well as places that get good acts downtown like Wilbert's. Nighttown in Cleveland Heights is noted for their jazz musicians, Savannah out in Westlake has local rock acts, and there are a number of bars and clubs in Lakewood that have bands.

We have a fantastic food scene here. Nearly every type of cuisine you could want is here somewhere. Exploring new restaurants and new cuisines is something a lot of people do. We have restaurants with award-winning beer and wine lists and restaurants run by multiple award winners.

Rockandroller is being too modest about the food scene, or her expertise about it. She is a go-to person on the food scene.

As, shucks

That should be AW, stupid autocorrect

Let's discuss the forum issues here. As for issues encountered out in the community by a newcomer, that's for the Cleveland relocation or safety threads.

I think you will have to re-create your relocation advice thread alaurice.  Re-post your question there and then we will be able to point you in the right direction.  I would suggest giving some ideas of what you did for fun in your previous locale(s).  Chances are you can find something very comparable, if not identical, here in CLE.  We could all list what we individually do for fun, but the 'different strokes for different folks' effect would make that a very far-ranging discussion.  FWIW, I think I have plenty of fun but don't ever go to the movies and rarely do the festivals.  It all depends on your idea of what fun is.....
