Photos from the annual Taste of Tremont festival, the Terminal Tower observation deck and a first for me, an Indians game at Progressive Field.

 

About 30,000 people showed up for the annual Taste of Tremont, breaking the record. It helped that it was a beautiful sunny and 70s day:

The next weekend was just as beautiful so I decided to go up to the Terminal Tower observation deck on Sunday. First stop is the Warehouse District:

Then I remembered the new aLoft hotel and Ernst and Young office tower opened in the Flats East Bank. En route I snapped a shot of the National Terminal apartments:

 

They took some interesting steps to work with the elevation changes from the Warehouse District to the Flats:

 

Hoping that some spill-over development comes from the Flats East Bank:

The former Bond Court/Sheraton/Crowne Plaza is being converted into a Westin. The neo-classical building in the foreground is the former Board of Education building - it's slated to become a Drury Plaza hotel:

Remember seeing the Soldiers and Sailors Monument? It dawned on me that I'd never been inside - well worth the visit; it's not a grand or large-scale work but it's a gem right in the middle of downtown - highly recommend a visit.

 

The monument commemorates the 10,000 residents of Cuyahoga County who fought in the Civil War. As the legends say, the model for Lady Liberty atop the monument was Levi Scofield's wife.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wish I had more time in the monument but it was time to go - got some quick pics of Euclid Avenue, East 4th Street, the Arcade and the library:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Over to the The Fountain of Eternal Life, aka War Memorial Fountain ... over the years, some have erroneously called it the Peace Fountain which I think is a terrible disservice to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. I understand the sentiment and the sculptor titled the work 'Peace Arising from the Flames of War' but there is nothing 'peaceful' about what happened to those honored by this memorial. To any veterans or those currently serving, thank you for your service.

 

My first time experiencing the new roof of the Convention Center - the exhibit hall and meeting rooms are below grade, but they had to lift Mall B to accommodate the ceiling heights. I think once people realize the great views and the space has proper event planning, this will be a very popular spot:

Excellent set; Cleveland is such a well-built town.

A couple of those right before the first Terminal Tower shot look like they could be straight out of Over-the-Rhine. 

 

Terminal Tower is just a beautiful building.  And Key Tower (is that what it's called?) is a nice-looking building, too.  The only one I had a negative reaction to was the Ernst and Young building--is that new?? I don't remember seeing it before.

The amount of construction and revitalization is evident in these photos. In a few years from now the surroundings will look dramatically different. It looks like you had a super clear day up in the observation desk. You got to love summertime in Cleveland! Nice set!

Ontario looks really good with the fresh pavement and paint. We really need to repave all streets downtown. Will clean everything up and make downtown look much nicer. It would also create smoother car, bus, and bike rides.

What a clear day from the top of the Terminal tower.  The steel mill in Lorain was clearly visible and it must be 30 miles away.

 

The city really looks good.  And I like the Ernst and Young building.

Agreed, the tree cover is astounding...in so many of those shots, if it weren't for the occasional tall building landmark, like MetroHealth (etc), you wouldn't even know there were blocks and blocks of city neighborhoods under that dense canopy of trees!  Forest City indeed! 

 

The one of the Lakewood Gold coast is probably the best example...it looks like an oasis of tall buildings on a lake with a forest behind them.  The population of people that actually lives within that photo is easily a million and a half or more considering how far off the horizon is.

Yeah, this is probably the best Cleveland thread on this forum, which is saying a lot.

 

I may also be biased because you got me friends and i on candid camera at Taste of Tremont AND, like Yo to the Cle, my house from above as well..

 

We should've had a UO meetup at the Shot Shack or one of the beer gardens.
