August 8, 201311 yr lol! no doubt he got a lot of 'play' after the war. but seriously, i wonder if they open it for tours? didnt seem like it.
August 10, 201311 yr I always thought the North End was probably a lot smaller than it seems...just measured it on google earth, it's only about 2500 ft by 1500ft. So less than a 1/2 square mile. Literally the same size as Boston Common, and that's not counting the public garden across the street.
August 10, 201311 yr More measuring...Beacon Hill is almost the exact same footprint as the North End. By comparison Cincinnati's OTR is 5,000ft. n/s and 4,000 ft. e/w. It's triangular because of the hill, and has a 6,000 ft. hypotenuse. So as big as both combined, although not as intact and less variation throughout.
August 11, 201311 yr Along those lines, I wish more cincinnatian's would get that they have neighborhoods that can be compared to ones that are as celebreted as Boston's North End and Beacon hill... Instead we get a thread about how Brighton is endangered :P.
August 12, 201311 yr yeah re boston's bh+ne= cinci otr size-wise. that seems about right on the ground too.
