March 8, 20232 yr One thing that got missed is that a new 600 space parking garage is also planned to go up by the Bing. The graphic shows it going at the corner of Thomas and ORR, but I really don’t think there’s enough space there. Hope it goes on one of the parking lots either to the north or west.
March 8, 20232 yr Maybe they're going to tear down the Human Resources Building next to the Bing if HR has moved to the office campus?
March 8, 20232 yr Kind of crazy the medical expansions in the pipeline lately. Grant Riverside Children's (just seems to keep going and going and going) Ohio State/James I was told once that Columbus has 3 or 4 level 1 trauma hospitals which is quite large for a city our size. Glad to see the medical services in this city are on the forefront.

One of the Level 1s it's Children's which is a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, so obviously a bit more limited. Here's the area hospitals and their trauma level. Grant: Level 1 WMC: Level 1 Children's: Level 1 Pediatrics Riverside: Level 2 Mount Carmel East: Level 2 Mount Carmel Grove City: Level 2 Mount Carmel St. Ann's: Level 2 OSU East: Level 3 Cleveland and Cincy each have one Level 1 and one Level 1 Pediatrics.

Plus it’s crazy expensive to be an L1 as well. Seems like OH is really zeroing in on the idea of Grant being their “trauma center” and RMH being their “speciality care center.”

March 31, 20232 yr OhioHealth is paying $1 Billion (in cash) for the Riverside and Grant expansions. While health systems across the state are operating in the red, Columbus' four systems are growing like crazy. According to the article, Riverside is among the 20 busiest hospitals nationwide and is full every day. Quote Two-thirds of Ohio’s hospitals lost money last year, but OhioHealth Corp. is paying $1 billion in cash to expand its Columbus flagships. Central Ohio’s largest system launched ambitious growth plans this year, including projects delayed by the pandemic – both recommitting to its Columbus core and widening its statewide territory through acquisitions. The other three Columbus health systems also are building new towers, including Mount Carmel Health System’s planned $250 million Dublin hospital and Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s nearly $2 billion critical care tower. Nationwide Children’s Hospital is designing a twin to its main tower. No other metro area in the state has so much in the works: Cleveland Clinic, Ohio’s largest system, has $1.3 billion in construction under way and is opening a new hospital – yet it posted a more than $200 million operating loss last year. Mercy Health is building a hospital in Mason, but in December cited economic conditions in pausing a planned hospital in Northeast Ohio. Hospitals across the nation are decreasing bed counts. In Ohio, more than 4,700 beds, or 17%, have been taken out of service the past two years, according to the Ohio Hospital Association. But Columbus systems say they are building because the region’s population is growing, plus urban multi-specialty referral hospitals attract more of the sickest patients from outlying areas and out of state. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2023/03/30/ohiohealth-grant-riverside-hospitals-expansion.html

December 13, 20231 yr Just drove by Riverside. Looks like storm sewer construction is underway. Large equipment and precast storm structures on site.

May 25, 20241 yr I imagine there will be a 2nd tower crane, that’s too far of a distance to reach the east end of the building.

June 9, 20241 yr Can’t remember if it was announced publicly, but they weren’t able to move forward with the Thomas Ln garage right now. Not sure if that has any implications for the Kohl’s lot residential.
June 10, 20241 yr 3 hours ago, DTCL11 said: Will they be not be building the new garage at the same time? Well, they are building at least one garage beneath the medical office building at the corner of Broadway and Olentangy. Don't know about the other one.
June 10, 20241 yr One of the cranes is currently going up. I believe it will be the taller of the two cranes.
June 12, 20241 yr Had an appointment today so I took a look out of the garage - it’s a huge project site!

August 22, 2024Aug 22 It is huge - but it's a better place for a garage. It could double as a commuter garage once we get light rail. 🤣
August 22, 2024Aug 22 That's an insanely huge garage. I wonder if that's to accommodate the potential loss of the surface lots across 315 next to Kohls.
