August 23, 201311 yr Vegas looks so built-up now. You really caught some good pix, caught the feel of the place (from what I recall)....esp Long Beach (some of those buildings look a bit Miami Beach) AND downtown LA...where you can see how the place has a no-kidding real downtown from way-back..."canyon streets" lined with old high rises, like Cincy and Chicago. Hollywood being the older neighborhood...good catch on the pix too ("Gaylord" building...classic...)
August 23, 201311 yr Awesome set ColDay! I miss living in LA so much, and this thread provided a welcomed dose of nostalgia :) I went to SSP to check out the DTLA project compilation thread, and I couldn't believe how much was going on! The new Broad museum is very exciting, and I think it could push that portion of downtown over the tipping point. From a nerdy planner perspective, I think it's incredibly interesting that the polycentric metropolis is finally embracing its core. I've long thought that one can think of LA's version of Manhattan as Downtown to Santa Monica, with the northern border being the mountains, and the southern border being the 10 freeway. With a strong downtown and the subway to the sea, I think this urban model will only become strengthened. I'm just totally fascinated with LA!
August 23, 201311 yr Great stuff!! A question, what is the name of this building? and is it the same as this from the Omega Man,
August 23, 201311 yr ^That's the LA Department of Power and Water building. Though the fountain and statue in front of it is in the middle of the Music Center complex.

August 26, 201311 yr Was in LA around Christmas time (late December for you heathens) once & went up into the hills to search for snow. When I looked down at the city & saw it sitting in a brown cloud I really considered just staying on the hill. bleah - people jog there? Mr Dayman, did you go inside the Theater? I liked that more than the outside. oh yeah, the snow was gross, too. forgot this site censors Disney. The Dizzknee Theater.
August 26, 201311 yr Positive reinforcement! But seriously, I love that last photo of the skyline behind the mountains. Awesome!
