"You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

Thanks for one really great tour of Columbus; what a wealth of photos!  (looking forward to your promised photo-shoot to the south)  In addition, I would really appreciate an extensive tour of the OSU campus alone--it certainly seems worthy of the "ColDayMan treatment," don't you think?

Great set; sorry I was out of town.

The rowhouses in images 3, 5, 7, 8, and 9 have received funding for rehabilitation. The building is image 6 is set for demolition.

Thanks for the tour, ColDay! I've really come to appreciate Columbus more since my sister started attending OSU last Fall.  I love the stretch of Neil Ave. between campus and Downtown. That whole neighborhood is really pretty, and appears to be a pretty dynamic place to live.  Whether you like the model of having a single alpha street or not, High Street from Downtown all the way north of campus is pretty amazing.  The quality of infill also appears to be better in Columbus than Cincinnati.

There are some things I still don't really like about Columbus, though.  Not a fan of downtown.  It just doesn't give the impression that you're in a big city to me. I'm not sure if it's the width of the streets, the surface parking lots, or the relative lack of historic buildings (compared to Cincinnati), but downtown Cbus just feels kinda...meh to me.  I also really hate the system of one way streets that extend out of downtown.  It makes for some pretty confusing wayfinding, and creates these high speed corridors that cars zoom through, rather than being neighborhood serving streets. Minor complaints though...keep on keepin on Columbus!

I can't believe some of the stuff that was there forty years ago...er, almost forty years ago, is still there! Waterbeds n Stuff? Magnolia Thunderpussy (which I think used to be on the other side of the street)?? and of course the Blue Danube (a k a Blue Dube)!! I lived on Neil Ave once. Can't remember the address (too old) but it was a white house, at the time at least. Nice trip down memory lane. I guess Gordon's Ice Cream is gone...and the Venetian?

Magnolia Thunderpussy went from just north of 10th on the west side of High to 4th & High, also on the west side. Gordon's Ice Cream and the Venetian, two of my old favorites, are both long gone. There were two Gordon's locations -- 13th & High and the main store at Norwich and High.

Beautiful homes!  I'm surprised at the number of row style structures.

Thanks for posting these!!

yeah, I remember Mr. Gordon seemed old even back then, but when you're only 19 you think someone just 40 is ancient. lol. I used to go there practically every day one summer--I preferred the "uptown" location. And to be honest, I thought the Venetian was a bit overrated. I also remember two very popular vegetarian restaurants under the name Seva (Longevity Cookery and the Kitchen, or something like that).

Yay for Columbus north side neighborhoods!

YES, YES, YES!!!! I think I got a chubby (pawz) Great pics
