Agree!

A few days ago I saw a body spray commercial using the suspension bridge as a backdrop.  It appeared to be on the KY side. Maybe Tag body spray??

The pilot's theme sounds similar to Flight of the Concords.

Cool

I would think a $10m production would already have a network lined up. This would seem to be quite a risk otherwise. I'm rooting for them.

Fountain Square gets 'J8ded'

TV show pilot filmed downtown

By Quan Truong and Jennifer Baker • [email protected] and [email protected] • July 31, 2008

DOWNTOWN - Cincinnati Police Sgt. Roger Robbins didn't wear his usual uniform at Fountain Square Wednesday night. He was decked out in full military gear with an automatic rifle at his side and green paint smeared on his face.

He wasn't a police sergeant. Not this night.

Robbins was in full acting mode, ready for the lights and cameras. For this night, to those in the crowd, to his fellow police officers and especially to his 9-year-old daughter watching from the Westin Hotel windows, Robbins was part of Hollywood.

Cool - hopefully this gets picked up.  It would be great if they delved into the music scene here.

Okay, I know this was mentioned on this thread already, but it was two years ago and didn't include the video...

So I watched the 1986 version of Babes in Toyland last night (I was sick and I'd already watched all my other movies.)  Holy crap, was that awful.  Not only do they name drop Cincinnati like 15 times for no reason, but they sign a whole damn, dirty song about it.

Cue bad song:

What the hell were these writers thinking?

At first they named it Cincy, but since Cincy is so Nati, they named it Cincinnati so they say?

I do like "She's Ohio's Maserati!"

Anyone know where they filmed "Lost in Yonkers"? Looking at this clip, it looks like Northside. They have the whole movie on Youtube and I don't recognize some of the business districts they shot. I guess part of it was filmed somewhere else.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHdVHCUwaUs&feature=related

I know for a fact that a lot of it was filmed in Wilmington

The movie theatre in pt 4 is The Murphy in Wilmington

Minute 2:31 of pt Six is Wilmington... I'm looking for more.

EDIT

So you got me interested... so I looked it up... This is what the credits say:

City of Ludlow special thanks

City of Wilmington special thanks

Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky Film Commission special thanks

That clip was in Ludlow about a half a block where I used to live.  The bar sign is still there, yet the actual bar is closed and for sale.

A lot of Cincinnati reppin' happened today if you watched American Idol. They went to Louisville and a LOT of the people, including the last person on the show, were from da Nati

If the History Channel counts as Hollywood, the other day there was a special about the White House.  While talking about the war of 1812, they said that after the British burnt the major buildings of government down (including the White House), there was a strong push to move the nation's capitol to a city further inland.  At which point they casually mentioned that the city of choice would have been the frontier city of Cincinnati.  No other details were given, which is a shame, because I had never heard of this before.  I can't begin to imagine how radically different Cincinnati would be if it had served as the capitol for ~200 years.  It would probably look absolutely nothing like it does now.

If we had been the capitol can you imagine how bad traffic would've been on Monday? Sheesh! :p

We would have a world class subway system and shiny new infrastructure! But we would also b!tch about being disenfranchised and have license plates that say "No taxation without representation".

Cincinnati's own - the Heartless Bastards on David Letterman the other night.  Love this band.

Also, on 'Life on Mars' tonight ... a band was being introduced member by member and on the last member, the guys name was Daddddy Cincinnati!!!

^I heard that from the other room while I was writing a paper.  Wasn't sure if I heard it right.  Good catch.

Also, last week on "My Name is Earl", two of the characters (in the witness protection program) were told that they would begin their new lives as Jews living in Cincinnati's "Little Israel district".

Cincinnati's own - the Heartless Bastards on David Letterman the other night. Love this band.

Cool!  I heard that they were going to be on, but it was already after Letterman gone off the air.  I love the part where he tries to confirm that they live in Austin, and she asserts that "We're from Cincinnati!"  Awesome.

What was Letterman's problem.  They clearly wanted to convey that they're from Cincinnati and he kept rambling about Austin.  Did the Austin CVB pay him to do that or is he really THAT deaf?

Oh, I forgot ... Conan O'Brian gave us a shout out....

He said that they only have 10 shows left and then when he gets done, he's going to move to Cincinnati to work as a Realtor. lol

He just had that anecdote about Austin in his mind and wanted to get it out.  I bet HB's record label is promoting them as "from Austin" now instead of Cincinnati.

'Buck Howard' to premiere here

Cincinnati World Cinema offers film lovers some works they can't get anywhere else in the city

By Lauren Bishop • [email protected] • April 19, 2009

You know that movie starring John Malkovich as an Amazing Kreskin-esque mentalist who tries to stage a comeback in Cincinnati? No? That could be because the movie, "The Great Buck Howard," hasn't yet opened in the city where much of it takes place. But thanks to a 7-year-old, volunteer-run organization called Cincinnati World Cinema, the movie will open April 26 for a three-day run at the Redmoor on Mount Lookout Square.

The show J8ded that was partly filmed in Cincy has a website. http://j8ded.com/main.html

A lot of neat info. They filmed on Roebling Bridge and in the old subway system.

Everyone make this your desktop.

j8ded_1_1024.jpg

Looks interesting... When/where will it be airing? I couldn't seem to find any info on the website.

After visiting that site and seeing three of the trailors, I can honestly say it looks like one of the worst movies ever made.  I almost wish they didn't shoot it in Cincinnati, because now the city is going to have this attached to its name.

Haha, after whatching some of the clips on the site I think it might be an indie smash hit.  That clip of the guy riding a tricycle eating a lollipop is ridiculous and hilarious.  Where the heck does the fighting come into the story though...I thought he was trying to start a singing career in Cincinnati, not ramsack Hyde Park.

A few years ago, I was working at The Gap in Kenwood, and this guy comes up to the register and plops down, like, a dozen pairs of socks.  I'm ringing the guy up and when he gives me his credit card, I look up and it's Hal Sparks.  I was like, "Hey, you're...that one guy..."  He smiled and said that yes, he was that one guy.

Later that night, I saw him again in Mt. Adams and he bought my friends and I a round of drinks.

CCM theater professor Robert Pavlovich will be in the upcoming film Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, also starring Nicholas Cage, Val Kilmer, and Eva Mendes.

I love Val Kilmer.

Hollywood can't quit Cincy. Two more shows.

First up -“Harry’s Law” debuting Monday, Jan. 17 (10 p.m.)

The quirky character was created by Emmy-winning writer David E. Kelley from “Boston Legal,” “The Practice,” “Ally McBeal,” “L.A. Law,” “Picket Fences” and “Chicago Hope.” He told me that he set the show in Cincinnati because he wanted it in a “cosmopolitan” big city that doesn’t get much attention, compared to a city such as his hometown of Boston (setting for “The Practice,” “Boston Legal” and “Boston Public”).  Kelley originally wrote the pilot for a male lead, but when he couldn’t find the right actor they went looking for an actress like Kathy Bates. When she agreed to take the role, the title character was changed to Harriet,  but she insisted the title remain “Harry.”

Then - Police Women of Cincinnati

Premieres January 13 at 9/8c

The latest installment of the hit POLICE WOMEN franchise moves to Cincinnati, Ohio - The Queen City - to follow four highly respected female officers with the Cincinnati Police Department. These fearless women will encounter intense cop drama and action as they patrol some of the most dangerous neighborhoods in America, all while balancing kids, significant others, and life at home

Didn't think it could get any better . . . Clooney, Tomei, Evan Rachel Wood, Giamatti, Philip Seymour Hoffman. Filming at Memorial Hall and Lunken Airport. This has Oscar written all over.

Clooney to film at Memorial Hall, Lunken

George Clooney's "Ides of March" movie, scheduled to start filming here next month, will be art imitating life.

Clooney, who directs and stars in the film about a Democratic governor campaigning in presidential primaries, has personally scouted two locations here often used by national candidates: Lunken Airport and Memorial Hall.

It's about time Clooney brought some crews hear, and it would be nice if they could get back to the action we had in the last 80's and early 90's.  If only Spielberg would bring some movies back home.

This movie does have quite a cast and sounds like it could be a good one.

Officer gears for national TV exposure on 'Police Women of Cincinnati'

Mayor Mallory goes 'Undercover' for CBS

By John Kiesewetter, Howard Wilkinson and Jane Prendergast • [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] • January 13, 2011

http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20110113/ENT11/101140346/Mayor-goes-Undercover-

In the past decade, the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Film Commission has promoted this area to Hollywood producers because of the unusually high reality TV viewership here.

Cincinnati last May was the No. 1 market for ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" and No. 2 for "Survivor" (Dayton was No. 1; Louisville No. 3).

Anyone watch Police Women last night?  it really showed a wonderful side of the city. {/sarcasm}

I did. I thought it was good. Plenty of great money shots of Cincy. Granted I was trying to figure out which park the obese hooker got busted, funny to see a typical drunken Eastsider get arrested and the dangers of Kentuckians thinking they're tough enough to buy drugs in the hood.

i watched to see if i could identify the neighborhoods (and for the most part i could)...i was wondering if the drunk kid in OTR was actually having a diabetic issue (hence the needles)...it's at least worth looking into, i know diabetic episodes can make a person appear to be drunk.

As soon as that other kid said he was waiting for his brother at Clinton Springs and Reading his cover was totally blown.  There's no reason to be there that late at night unless you're buying drugs.

Overall, i think it really gives the impression that the city is crappy and crime ridden.  Hell, that shooting was right near Grammers.

^ Of course it gives that impression.  It's a show about crime.  It's not going to be shot at a playground with a bunch of kids waving flowers, or at a high end restaurant or bar.  If you've ever seen the show COPS, which this basically is, they were never in nice parts of the respective cities in which they were shot.  Now, that being said, there were some pretty stunning shots of the skyline with the fb stadium and the new skyscraper brightly lit up.

As far as COPS-esque shows go, I think Police Women paints a pretty good picture of Cincinnati.  The shots of downtown and the Roebling were impressive.  It gives the rest of the country the idea that Cincinnati is a "real" city. And the police women themselves spoke quite a few times about how they're out there protecting the city because they care about it.

I can't count the number of times I've seen Miami, Las Vegas, LA, and New York on these types of shows and it's never made me afraid to visit any of those cities.  If anything, this show just gets Cincinnati on peoples' radars.

Exactly.  I'm always surprised how Cincy seems to fly below the radar in most people's perception.

Not sure how I feel about this...

David E. Kelley on 'Harry's Law' and Why His Shows Get So Wacky

...

Your shows have been very Boston-centric lately. What was the motivation to move the setting for 'Harry's Law' out to Cincinnati?

Well Boston-centric was a result of logistics more than choice. 'The Practice' was very specific to Boston. You know, I really wanted the feel, the grunge, the smell of those old Boston courtrooms. And that was also a world that I knew a bit. So I really wanted that authenticity. Then once we did 'Ally McBeal,' I pretty much put it in Boston just because I was looking to double up on 2nd units. And then 'Boston Legal' was necessarily in Boston because those guys were established as Boston lawyers in 'The Practice.'

But it wasn't an over-arching desire to stay localed in Boston. It just kind of worked out that way. Cincinnati, it could be anywhere. It could be, you know, Cleveland, it could be any sort of smaller, yet cosmopolitan town that goes through the struggles of both urban and suburban growth, but it's not a sexy town. We knew we just didn't want to make it a San Francisco or a Boston, for example, or Chicago, or a big town like that. We wanted just the sort of second tier.

There was racial tension recently in Cincinnati...

There is racial tension. And we do get into that a little bit. But that wasn't the reason we chose Cincinnati.

...

Fairview or Mt. Storm.

I did not see it, but apparently Natalie Portman gave a shout out to her grandma in Cincy on the Golden Globes during her acceptance speech.  I know she has been here multiple times visiting her in Hyde Park, but this is the first time I have heard her mention this publicly.

^She did.

Just by chance I was watching Jeopardy last evening while I was getting some work done and a contestant was from Cincy...no big deal but Alex volunteered that "I worked there in Cincinnati many years ago."  I wonder what that's about?

Just checked out Robert Bianco's review of "Harry's Law" in USA Today's 1/17/11 paper -- absolutely dreadful, despite the talents of Kathy Bates.  Mercifully, maybe a cancellation will be forthcoming, sparing Cincinnati any more embarrassment from the phony Burbank studio backlot OTR set and ludicrous scripts.

I agree.  I thought Harry's Law paints a worse picture of Cincinnati than Police Women does.  Kathy Bates is fantastic, but the show...not so much.

...and if the nabe is soooo bad, how in the hell is she going to sell all those high-end shoes????????

I have a feeling those were knock-offs.
