Just checked out Robert Bianco's review of "Harry's Law" in USA Today's 1/17/11 paper -- absolutely dreadful, despite the talents of Kathy Bates.  Mercifully, maybe a cancellation will be forthcoming, sparing Cincinnati any more embarrassment from the phony Burbank studio backlot OTR set and ludicrous scripts.

I'm not a critic but I was underwhelmed too.  I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be a comedy or a drama but it certainly wasn't a dramedy or a coama.

It was just one episode. It does not mean it will all be bad.

It could be, you know, Cleveland, it could be any sort of smaller, yet cosmopolitan town that goes through the struggles of both urban and suburban growth,

Since when is Cincinnati cosmopolitan?  Yeah I like the place, it's got it's moments (actually a lot of good ones) but "cosomopolitan" is not a word I would associate with Cincy.

Interesting. When I first read that sentence yesterday my eyebrows perked because I have heard Cincinnati described as cosmopolitan and have always liked to think of it that way.  It might not be 21st century "cosmo" but it definitely has an inherited reputation for a certain level of refinement. And it has quite a few big well-known international corporations.

"Cincinnati - Cosmopolitan City?" could be a good thread idea.

^At the risk of meandering off-topic, let us define what is necessary for a city to be considered cosmopolitan:

cosmopolitan [ˌkɒzməˈpɒlɪtən]

n

a person who has lived and travelled in many countries, esp one who is free of national prejudices

adj

1. having interest in or familiar with many parts of the world

2. sophisticated or urbane

3. composed of people or elements from all parts of the world or from many different spheres

The Enquirer had an article on Clooney's new film "Ides" and had a link to films shot here.  I have not seen this listed before, but here they are, since 1987:

Of those, which were actually set in Cincy?

I know Traffic, Airborne, Artworks, and Rain Man.  Any others?

^^ In Too Deep, Little Man Tate, Milk Money, The Mighty, and Fresh Horses I believe.

I caught an episode of policewomen on cincy.  They pulled over 2 young guys from Kentucky that were riding a scooter with a cardboard hand written license plate and a flashight duct taped to the handlebars as a headlight.  It was funny....the policewoman was pretty nice about it, just made them walk it back to the state line, and said "When you get into KY I don't care what you do, but in the state of Ohio this vehicle is not legal"....or something like that.  A bit of overtone of Ohio snobbery about KY perhaps....but funny.

So has anyone seen any stars or filming around town?  I am certainly not going out of my way, but I saw the crew while driving through Mt. Lookout Square, and last week I saw them downtown filming on the skywalk between Macy's and Tower Place.  It was nice to see the hundreds of stargazers lining 5th St. on top of the bustling city streets.  I do enjoy them showing up in familiar places and hopefully other films soon follow.

^ I haven't seen any celebrities around town, but I saw the crew filming a couple of weeks ago in Northside on Hamilton Ave. Maybe I'll be lucky enough to see myself walking in a scene or two.

I hear they'll be filming at Fountain Square today. Not sure how they'll film around the ice rink tear down...

I just want one Marisa Tomei sighting. Is that too much to ask.

^^ Cool - I was glad to hear they were filming in Northside.  It sounds like Paul Giamatti has joined Clooney and Ryan Gosling.  No signs of Marisa Tomei.....

Mmmm. Marisa Tomei. I would drink her bath water.

^Wtf, that's a weird comment.

Evan Rachel Wood is now here - she and Ryan Gosling apparently made a visit to the zoo yesterday.  Hopefully they left with a good impression.

David comment was dirty. You're respond was hysterical.

Not only that but House doctor/Tron gal, Olivia Wilde, was with Ryan at the aquarium.

Though the best Cincy/Hollywood connection for today has to be Charlie Sheen gone wild and reliving his hard partying with the Reds in the 1990s. Gotta give the man credit for being able to party so hard for 20+ years

Charlie Sheen’s ‘epic’ party with the Cincinnati Reds

In an interview with TMZ, Sheen described the greatest party he has been apart of. That party was with members of his favorite baseball team, The Cincinnati Reds. Two separate parties took place – one during the 1990 Wire-to-Wire run – and one during the 1992 season. “Cincinnati Reds party for sure … It was epic. It was radical and they still talk about it to this day – 21 years later. Lou Piniella – my man!” Sheen wouldn’t go into details of the party, however, a 1993 story that ran in the Enquirer by John Erardi bring some of the storyline to light . . .

^^ Nice - I had no idea she was here.  BTW I totally remember when the story about the Charlie Sheen party broke.  We used to joke that Rob Dibble was lucky to get out alive - his personality at the time just seemed like he wouldn't know how to handle the excess, and I could see him being first in line for one of Heidi's girls.  Charlie is obviously way out there now, but I was glad that a Dayton boy stayed loyal to his baseball team.

You watch the Wire to Wire VHS tape and you can already see the rivers of booze flowing as they get the trophy in the locker room.

As a kid, I use to watch that tape religously.

Amen. I still have it on VHS sitting on the shelf next to me. I was lucky enough to score Diamond seats to the clinch game this past season and got sprayed with Budwesier while Gomes was celebrating.

Just watched Undercover Boss online and happened to notice that they blurred out the Shepard Fairey mural on the side of Arnold's.  I'm trying to figure out why they'd do that.

The new Cincy shots filmed this summer are showing up now on Harrys Law. There is a different Cincy shot shown after every commercial break. They are all quite beautiful.
