September 6, 201311 yr I know a lot of cities claim to be the "Paris of the _______", but I can't help but think that Havana could have been (maybe still could be...) the "Paris of the Americas". The architecture is so detailed and preserved, there are grand plazas and boulevards, and there's a unique street culture not found many places, probably due to the absence of American commercialism.
September 6, 201311 yr Man, look at all those '50s American cars kept alive with replacement engines from forklifts.

Central Mexico City does pretty well too. It has lots of grand blvds, statues, plazas, and a plethora of detailed colonial architecture. Only problem is that the buildings are tilting and sinking! I should have some photos posted pretty soon.
September 6, 201311 yr Yeah, I'd say central Mexico City is more "Paris." I'd say Havana is more Barcelona/Buenos Aires...but more gritty. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
September 6, 201311 yr as far as all that paris of...goes, havana is known as the paris of the carribean. without question, the paris of all the americas is buenos aires. mexico, d.f. is a contender.
