I saw this thread over at skyscraperpage.com's forum and thought it would be fun to see the results here.

Go to realtor.com or your preferred real estate site and look up the most expensive and least expensive homes currently for sale. Please don't list dozens - just the one or two at either end of the spectrum.

For example - least expensive and most expensive currently for sale in my zip code, 44102 - Cleveland, Ohio. Note, that some lakefront homes have a modest "front" on the street, while the main part of the house faces the lake:

realtor44102.jpg

And a map to show how close they are - amazing what a difference the lakefront makes.

realtor44102b.jpg

Just for fun - the most expensive home currently for sale in Greater Cleveland - this little shack. 20,149 sq. feet for only $7.9 million. In person, it looks as though it's as deep as it is wide - yeesh!

Well the MLS is down right now but I do know of a building on Peete st. that sold several years ago for -7000, thats right, they were paid to take it.  Beat that!  Funny, after posting that figure I don't feel so good about my neighborhood anymore.

Man it is hard to believe that you can actually buy a house for $18,000 or $9,900.  Do you guys think they are in really horrible shape, and need $50,000 + dumped into them?  They can't be habitable at that price.  They both look like nice little homes in the pics.

^ Mostly because it's a high crime area.

^ How high of crime?  It's a 1500 sq ft 3 bed 2 bath house in a major metropolitan area for $9,900!  That blows my mind!  You could buy it with a credit card.

I wouldn't really feel comfortable living on Hemlock, because there are lots of folks who just hang out on the streets at the end of the block...but it's really not that bad a neighborhood.  The house three houses up the street sold in 2003 for $103K - it's 1800 square feet, two family - definitely a comp.  So I'm sure the $9,900 house is that cheap mostly because of major damage...

4,900 - 475,000

Looks like the cheap one needs to be torn down.

It's got more character than the expensive one, tho.

Looks like I will have to look some more as the house I listed was found in the first MLS I searched. I only searched three neighborhoods.

Indian Hill property has 27,000 square feet, listed at $11.9M

By Matt Leingang

Enquirer staff writer

Real estate agents had said it would take someone with extravagant taste to buy this house. Enter prominent class-action lawyer Stan Chesley.

Chesley has purchased what is believed to be the most expensive single-family home listed in Greater Cincinnati, possibly ever.

The elegant French chateau at 9005 Camargo Road in Indian Hill, which has six bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, custom chandeliers and a wine cellar, carried an asking price of $11.9 million when it first went on the market last October.

That's the biggest price ever listed on the Multiple Listing Service of Greater Cincinnati, which has been around for about 60 years.

Chesley, whose most recent high-profile case is the taxpayer antitrust lawsuit against the National Football League and the Cincinnati Bengals, declined to comment Sunday.

But records at the Hamilton County Auditor's Office now list him as the owner. The county assessed the property at $8.97 million. It carries an annual property tax bill of more than $33,000..

The name of the previous owner is unknown. The house was being sold by a trust, which hid the owner's identity.

According to county records, the house was built in 1999 by Allen L. Davis, a former Provident Financial Group Inc. executive.

The home includes two four-car garages with apartments on top and 27,000 square feet of living space. It sits on 5.3 acres nestled into 300 acres of private green space.

There's also a game room, exercise room, a theater/media room, separate two-bedroom carriage house for live-in parents or hired help and an outdoor kitchen for entertaining friends and family. The indoor kitchen has hidden appliances.

Chesley is married to Susan Dlott, who was appointed a U.S. District Court judge by President Clinton in 1995

And on the low end, I am still sticking with my -7000 on Peete St.

Please remember, anyone can list a property for whatever they want (and it is not always based on market realities), solds are the name of the game in Real Estate.

You can also do a property search of homes in Franklin County. Les' house is by far one of the most expenisive I have ever seen. He pays close to $1,000,000 in taxes and his house is valued at about $47,000,000. Les lives in the New Albany Farms subdivision, along with the Rahals, Schottensteins, Kesslers and Wasserstroms. I live just down the street from him off of Lambton Park Road and our homes look tiny compared to those in New Albany Farms, but still as nice!
