Posted October 9, 201311 yr A few places along the Erie Canal, between Rochester and Buffalo… Brockport ~8,000 population. A tiny bridge over the canal leads into the main street. The cross streets on both sides of Main Street hasve a grid designed that doesn't line up with the other side. Supposedly the two founders didn't like each other so much that they wouldn't connect their roads. /////////////////// Albion ~6,000 population Orleans County seat. This village has the little bridge over the canal leading into the North Main-Bank Streets Historic District. The road continues up a small hill into the Courthouse Historic District, with several churches surrounding. /////////////////////////// Medina ~6,000 population The street clock was made in Cincinnati, and the Main Street District is on the NRHP. /////////////////////// Lockport ~21,000 population Named for the canal locks. Niagara County seat No historic commercial district, the buildings were scattered around, and industry has an overt precedent here. ////////////// …while within Niagara County, it makes sense make a quick stop by the United Office Building Niagara Falls, NY
