A few places along the Erie Canal, between Rochester and Buffalo…

Brockport

~8,000 population. A tiny bridge over the canal leads into the main street. The cross streets on both sides of Main Street hasve a grid designed that doesn't line up with the other side. Supposedly the two founders didn't like each other so much that they wouldn't connect their roads.

This village has the little bridge over the canal leading into the North Main-Bank Streets Historic District. The road continues up a small hill into the Courthouse Historic District, with several churches surrounding.

Named for the canal locks.

Niagara County seat

No historic commercial district, the buildings were scattered around, and industry has an overt precedent here.
