That second shot is great!

Do they sometimes light up the water element out front?

Damn that zoom!  I'm so jealous.

the clock one is great

Yeah, you can really see the colors...thank you!

I've always admired the building, but I never realized how wonderful the clock is, in its own right! Thanks for showing that!

Art Deco rules! It is THE architecture (IMHO)! We are lucky to have such strong statements of it here in Cincy (Netherland Hilton/Carew Tower, etc.)  That clock is stunning.  Imagine the hundreds of thousands (millions?) of 1940-1950 era travelers that checked that on their way in to catch their train (including my parents). I'm glad it's operational. Thanks for that great close up.

Can anyone estimate the diameter of the clock? 10 feet?

I've never really paid much attention to that clock.  Looks fantastic!

I found this:

"The highlight of the tour came after a short break when we then moved to the front of the building and ascended four flights of stairs that led to an entrance in between the outer and inner windows. We then walked out on an opaque glass floor between the windows (where our shadows could be seen moving in mid-air from inside the terminal) and up into the clock face on the front of the terminal. Just looking at the picture doesn’t do the size justice; the clock face is around 20 feet in diameter. You end up climbing a small set of stairs and move out in behind the clock face to see the inner clock works."

I went on the behind the scenes tour just last week. The big hand is nine feet long, so yeah, about 20 feet in diameter.

Behind the clock is fascinating, with big gears and and axles and spindles. There's a little electric clock plugged in to set the big boy by. That opaque floor is 2-inch glass, chosen to let light into the rotunda.

The highlight of the tour for me was the "high steel" above the rotunda. I'll see if I can post pics.

I have been on the behind the scenes tour twice but never up to the top.  I must get this added bonus of the tour next time.

That's a new clock!

^ Can't be, there is even a crack in it.

Well, maybe not the middle part...

Here is what I remember:

^As blurred and distorted as that is, how can you tell its not the one in monte's pic?

OH snap...  Cincy-Rise just got called out :D

Not everyone can be a professional, maybe these will help out.  It definitely hasn't been replaced.

Ok, maybe I was wrong... It looked different from what I remember...

Ok, ok, I can be wrong once in a while too, but it is a rare occasion. ;)

btw... I thought one of the hands were once a light neon green color?

^They are even both red in your pic.

Seriously, what I was really trying to do was test your guys' knowledge on the clock. I knew it was never changed, I was just seeing if you guys knew your history... yeah... that's it. ;)

Oooh, very nice pics!

Choo choo!!

I want to come to Cincinnati again...
