It doesn't say that the new team name will be the Rubberducks.

If so, I agree with the YGBFKM sentiment.

But the original source article from the ABJ just noted that the Rubber Ducks was among the most popular names in the previous fan-voting naming contest, but the Aeros still won with 67% of the vote: http://www.ohio.com/sports/aeros/aeros-to-announce-name-change-1.440631.

Though the original ABJ article also didn't say that the USPTO just announced a new filing by the Aeros with the Rubberducks logo.

I like it.  They could put a whole new spin on the 7th inning stretch........ "a one, a two, a one, two, three four...... [crowd starts singing] rubber duckies your number one, you make gametime so much fun..."

The actual logo art looks a lot better than what was in that link (coloring etc). I'm on board.

looks like the monsters

So my earlier optimism that the Aeros wouldn't be so facepalm-inducingly clueless appears to be unwarranted.

Let the QuAkron jokes begin.

I like it.

Just the Akron Rubbers would have been fine, however.

^Was that a joke? The Akron Rubbers? I think you were joking, but it's tough to tell in the interwebz

Rubbers used to mean rainboots. Then they meant something else in the 1980's. Today, they can be Akron's baseball team.

I'm not joking. Akron is the Rubber City.

I thought that was Tijuana.

I'm on board.

Why not?

This is a complete joke.... From all the backlash and hate on Twitter and Facebook I wouldn't be surprised if they changed it back. It is ridiculous.

I like it including the logo.

I'll buy a hat.

It should be the "rubber city ____".  Rubber city ducks is even better

My feeling is that this is from an outsider's perspective of a team name.  They probably feel that there is a team that has done well with the "mighty ducks" name, so how is this much different?  To me it also says something about the demographics they are going after for marketing purposes. It would seem like they really want to target the under 12 set since they aren't beholden to the aeros name either.  What is an aero after all? Fairly difficult to really "market" an aero.

I feel sorry for the players that have to say they are rubber ducks. I feel sorry for the fans that would have to call themselves out as rubber duck fans. I wish they would've done this on April 1 as it would've been a fun practical joke.

Edit:  The other point i wanted to make is that this would seem to be a net negative for the city as far as branding of the city.  I feel that would be what most sensible adults that grew up in the Akron area would understand.  Aeros is innocous whereas rubberducks takes some explanation that requires one to have to regurgitate the city's history.  No one is wanting to retell the city history to explain why their baseball team has a silly name.

Hmm, I liked Canton-Akron Indians better.

Even so, I never liked the Aeros name or mascot at all.  I think Rubber Ducks is silly, but somehow I still like it better.

How could you not like "Orbit" the lovable scroungy cat?
