Think of it as good for Louisville.  A city that demands space like this in the core is great.  Also, the building will not get built like this due to the new criteria on seismic code grades a-f.  This building is obviously conceptual.  The important thing is Louisville appears to have growth ahead of them for several years to come.  I actually think I am reading posts by people that are mad about this developement.

its one thing to make fun of it...but at least come up with something original lol :) (not you go tribe)

I'm pretty sure it will get built as is. This is the final plan, its been in the works for ten months. The govenor of kentucky has approved of it, and the mayor of Louisville,ky, and its gotten a good response from the citezens and the art community. and i'm pretty sure they wouldn't put something out that was unfit to be built. And plus in a recent article the architect specifically said he would have never released the rendering if he had any doubts that it wasn't going to be built. Plus this is the second skyscraper that this site has attracted. The first one, the Vencor tower vencortower.jpg did not get built because Vencor went bankrupt (which was not the cities fault). So this means two things IMO: the site is suitable for a skyscraper, and the city knows what needs to be done in order to prep the site. And also, I think the developers know what not to do and what to do in order to get this built just by looking at what caused the Venvor tower to fail.

It will get built, you all will see :)

That's one of the things that turned me off about the Louisville waterfront besides the elevated highway: the parking lots.

There are fairly large parking lots on the riverfront in Cincinnati as well, between the stadiums.  I think those are supposed to be decked-over, though, with that new park in front of the Freedom Center.

I was thinking a big difference is that the city comes so close to the river in Louisville.  I think that was the case in Cincinnati too, to some extent, prior to Fort Washington Way and the stadium construction.  Yet, based on old pix, the old steamboat wharf in Cincy seems to have extended further back from the river... also, there was no levee or floodwall in Cincinnati between the city and the river (though that floodwall is "new", build after the 37 flood).

And the elevated I-64. What a disaster...at least with Fort Wasthington Way they have "The Banks" to deck over the freeway and extend the downtown toward that riverfront park, which is a great "new urbanist" plan.  Thats pretty much impossible in Lousiville due to the highway engineering atrocity that is I-64.

I'm thinking that the Louisville riverfront could have been dealt with a lot differntly than it has been...thats sort of what bugs me about this design, not so much the building itself, but a missed opportunity to do something more with the site developement...maybe a bigger fix than the scope of this project.

Everyone can hate on this project all they want, but Louisville cannot go wrong with this project. Considering he fact that the Ali Center is right next door, and Main St. just a few steps away, this will be awesome....especially when considering there used to be a king fish on this site. You can't go anywhere but up from King Fish.

^What? If you don't like King Fish, its easy to understand why you like this crappie, I mean crappy tower.

the sarcasm is getting rediculously pointless. You never even saw the king fish so what do you know?

no offense...but this reminds me of high school when all the ugly girls got together and called the pretty girls ugly lol

^I've ate at the King Fish in Jeffersonville numerous times, maybe the tower location was rundown, but you referred to the chain, not that site.

Why did you change your name?

no offense...but this reminds me of high school when all the ugly girls got together and called the pretty girls ugly lol

only because the pretty girls continually bragged about their beauty and insulted anyone who didn't agree

wrong...lol..because ugly people can't stand pretty people

^I've ate at the King Fish in Jeffersonville numerous times, maybe the tower location was rundown, but you referred to the chain, not that site.

Why did you change your name?

no, i specifically said there used to be a king fish on that SITE.

^^only if they actually thought the girls were pretty. This girl is one ugly *****.

yes you did, but this statement "You can't go anywhere but up from King Fish" insults the whole chain, not that SITE.

i can't beleive you are actually trying to argue that a little king fish is better than the museum plaza....are yo ureally that desperate to redicule this building...i mean give it a rest lol jeez.

for that site yes it is true because for one, that king fish was closed, and two no one ate there.

Ah Kingfish.  Pure Louisville.

The one in Jeff is nothing like the one that was on this site....

...it was a faux riverboat set in a water-filled "moat", with the kitchen area done up as the "wharf boat"..interior done up in "High Victorian Bordello meets Riverboat Gambler" style.  I think the Texas deck was the cocktail lounge.

It was a popular place to take out of town guests, to give them that "River City" feel. (the chain had other restaurants done up on the same theme.

But yes, this is going to be one fantastic building.  Hope I'm still in the area when its finished.

Come on...You found my sarcasm in my first post...lol jeez

AH!!!!!!!!!!! But you did not specify that site in that specific comment!

no offense...but this reminds me of high school when all the ugly girls got together and called the pretty girls ugly lol

There are pretty girls in here?

*sucks in gut, puffs out chest*

who said there were ugly girls in this thread?

who said there were ugly girls in this thread?

most of us

Now I'm confused.

i said it reminded me of it.

Now I'm confused also.

^ We're just a couple of confused, ugly girls. :-D

What the heck just happened.  I thought we were talking about the most beautiful building ever proposed in the US and now were talking about ugly girls.  OK, I am being a little sarcastic.

this is funny, even though pigboy is the one saying no one cares about this building, everytime i come to this thread he is always one of the people in here viewing it at the top of the page lmao.

This conversation has evolved into something totally different AND not caring for the building is different than not caring about the building.

Okay, I don't know why I'm bothering to say this, but ColDay, X, and I have all pretty explicitly stated that what no one cares about is its impact on the Ohio Valley, not that no one cares about the building!

Of course, the reason I'm always listed there at the top of the page is that I check this site religiously and am probably listed as viewing a whole bunch of threads.

Well, that and the pretty girls.

Hey, there you are again Pigboy.  Caught you peeking again.

How do I get names to appear again? I used to be able to see who was viewing a page, but now I can only see the number of members. Is that a perk to get me to change to the new setting (which my eyes don't fancy).

Now we know where all the Urbana Party Girls went.

(Louisville)

As ugly as this thing is, atleast it will get a lot of attention. It sure has on this forum, look how many pages there are haha

This thread is great....not for the fact that it is about a digusting excuss of an urban project.  It is great because there are those select few on here defending it with all their might.....I'm not real sure why I never see you guys posting anywhere else on the site, but it also seems that you joined up right at the same time as the birth of this thread.

Are you guys simply interested in this one topic or are you going to actually give yourselves some creditbility by posting intelligent urban comments elsewhere on this site.

Quit stirring the pot, I know its fun to do every once in a while, but enough is enough.....move on :|

i saw some people in this thread who signed up just to bash this building lol ...to each his own i guess.

Kevmr25..has 4 whole post since he signed up...all in this thread...all negative...and you say we are trying to cause trouble?

this building adds nothing to the character of the Louisville Skyline. This tower does not fit into the skyline at all, even if one does like it, i cant change the opinions of those who love it, but i just does not look like it fits into the characteristic of this city. What, if any historic values does it borrow from. Should we just put such a futuristic building in a city, that in my view is a nice southern city, with a historic architectural character. this tower would fit more to me in Europe or in New York or Chicago or maybe even Denver or Houston, but it does nothing to add to this skyline, it instead takes from it, robbing it of a characteristic that I have come accustomed to. I can understand how some one can be glad that a sixty story office tower could be built, i would to, if it was Cleveland, but I would beg, ask and plead for a redesign if they proposed this in Cleveland. Must i remind people of the World Trade center competition. Most of those towers had this type of futuristic look, and all of them were turned down with much criticism. The general public did not like them, and the feeling is that the same fate awaits this tower. There are many towers going up today that add to their skyline. Look at the Comcast center in Philadelphia, The Shanghai World finance Center, The empire world towers in Miami, these towers among many have been design with rave reviews by most and have been well recepted by the public. It has been obvious in this forum to me that this tower will become nothing more than a drawing on a wall some where. Any architecture firm can do better than this and this great city deserves a much better addition to their great skyline in my opinion.

"You do realize there are two bypasses around Louisville, so you dont have to travel through downtown."

so now I have to make my trip l;onger because they want to build this piece of crap. Thats it im flying from now on, so i wont even have to pass through it at all. There goes thunder over loiusville for me. now they have to have a beautiful fireworks show ruined with this ugly skyscraper in the background.

this tower is simply a crime against humanity and architecture. I can do much better and if the architects of this tower read this I challenge them to let me do better. This towers model belongs no where but in the trash. No one in there right mind would let any one build this piece of crap in thier city, and if they proposed it for Cleveland ohio i would be the first in line to shot it down. Proposlas like this never get built, skyscrapers this ugly have been proposed before and they have never been built, congradualations for putting Loiusville on the map, now redesign this thing or dont buld it, its ugly as hell, period. I would not want it in my city, and I dont want it in yours, i have to pass this city when i travel down south, I dont want to see that piece of crap when I pass through the city. ITS UGLY, ITS UGLY ITS UGLY, PERIOD.

Well it appears as though 57 of your (necro) total 58 posts have been within this thread.....no wonder why the page number has gone up so quickly..you and your buds post on this topic like crazy.

Who cares if thats why they joined.  Maybe they read the site regularly.  When they saw this thread, they were intrested in it and wanted to talk about it.  I'm not defending anyone here but if this is what they want to talk about, so be it.  Maybe their from Lousiville and are excited about this project.

Back on track:  Its ugly.

no i've posted in other threads. my only purpose of this thread was to post updates every once and a while, i could have cared less if anyone replied or not, but it seems like i'm on the defensive 80% of the times i post in here now. But oh well.

^When you were Drake?

lol...its not like my mother named me drake, or necromantical... there freakin internet usernames lmao. i got a new user name so what?

Why would you need a new used name? You could have gotten Drake changed without creating another account. Now people think there are two people, which is why I needed to clarify.

well i didn't know that......delete the other name i don't give two cents lol i have aka drake in my profile
