Springfield - Wittenberg University seeks historic designation

Featured Replies

Wittenberg University officials want to recognize the majority of the campus as a historic district, a designation that could bring more prestige and potentially provide historic tax credits that could be used to help cover renovation costs.

Wittenberg’s proposal includes 28 buildings, including the majority of the university’s campus.

Interesting idea, I hope they can get approval.

Quick question on Witt - does it have a campus-oriented business district?

There's a little strip business building.

so, no.

It's on the north edge of the downtown actually kinda removed by a block or two.

The nomination was recommended by the state board and now goes to the National Park Service for listing.

That makes sense. So their campus area is really downtown. Thanks, I always wondered haha

It's not really downtown - there's a pretty solid cut off. The state vocational college is right in the core block, tho.
