July 12, 2024Jul 12 Massive expansion continues for Dayton-tied defense firm A defense firm with deep ties to Dayton continues developing its regional presence. Sierra Nevada Company (SNC) is continuing to expand its presence at the Dayton International Airport, and plans to expand further into south Dayton. The company's Aviation Innovation and Technology Center (AITC), which opened last year, will be expanded beyond its two existing 100,000-square-foot airplane hangars and the two additional forthcoming. “We're going to be building two additional AITC maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) hangars simultaneously, number three and number four," said Mark Williams, SNC senior vice president of strategy. "There's more than just those hangers that are going up at the AITC. We're going to have a new office building in south Dayton. That’s still being discussed and contracted. July 14, 2024Jul 14 Dayton's largest airport receives $2M for concourse renovations, upgrades Dayton’s largest airport has received $2 million in state funds to facilitate upgrades to one of its concourses. The project represents a larger effort by the airport to renovate and revitalize its facility. The Dayton International Airport recently received funding from a bill passed by the Ohio House of Representatives towards renovations for Concourse B. Funding came from House Bill 2, the state’s two-year construction budget for capital projects throughout Ohio which included $700 million for statewide, regional and local projects. The Dayton airport was one of over 50 local projects to receive funding. The renovations to Concourse B are part of the overall $8 million Terminal Master Plan, which will see updates to the whole terminal one phase at a time. The first phase was the renovation of the front of the terminal building as well as the lobby area through the TSA checkpoint. September 17, 2024Sep 17 Dayton International Airport continues renovation work with $9M update Dayton’s largest airport is investing in updating a crucial part of the flight process. The Dayton International Airport (DAY) has received nearly $11 million in grants over the last year. Most of these funds were to replace six of their jet bridges. Last month, DAY received $6 million from the FAA as part of the Airport Infrastructure Grant for the jet bridge replacement project. This grant, part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), provides $15 billion in airport infrastructure funding. These funds can be invested in runways, taxiways, safety and sustainability projects, as well as terminal, airport-transit connections and roadway projects, according to the FAA website. March 30Mar 30 Dayton International Airport unveils AI parking technology The region’s largest airport has become the second in the nation to introduce AI into an aspect of airport navigation that you may not expect: Parking. The Dayton International Airport (DAY) unveiled an AI parking system that simplifies parking at the airport on March 27, 2025. Using a camera-based license plate recognition software, parkers no longer need to carry a ticket or pay before leaving. Instead, cars now enter and leave through gates meant to control traffic flow. Payment is automatically calculated and paid based on the entry and exit times recorded on camera. June 5Jun 5 Dayton commits $5M to support Sierra Nevada airport expansionA major aerospace player is deepening its investment in the Dayton region. With support from local officials, the firm is preparing for its next phase of growth at the region's largest airport.In 2023, the Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) marked a major milestone by opening its first aircraft maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) hangar at the Dayton International Airport.
