Posted January 23, 201411 yr This article about the demise of the Piqua Heritage Festival piqued my interest. I agree with the author. These days, there are too few places for positive family interaction, even fewer places to learn about local history and too few opportunities to support local nonprofit organizations. Organizers blamed the termination of the event on “decreased funds and a lack of volunteers.” The festival requires 2,000 volunteers and $90,000 annually. They take strong leadership, communication & a hefty bunch of volunteers to pull off. and $$$ But we need these things to build pride & awareness in our own communities & to sell our communities to outsiders. And I'm not talking about downtown Clevo, Cowtown & Porkopolis but the neighborhoods within these cities. http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/news/local-festivals-still-are-thriving/ncx36/
