Posted February 2, 201411 yr I rented a wide angle lens a few weeks ago, and here are some shots I took around Over-the-Rhine. And a few more on Flickr.
February 2, 201411 yr The Mercer Commons on Walnut Street rehabs look amazing. When will this side be finished, and will they have retail on the first floor? It will be great to have that many more people in the neighborhood. Also, I noticed they took out all the trees and brush on the 1400 block west side of Walnut. I wonder what they have planned for there?

I wonder what they have planned for there? Yes, there will be first floor retail on the Walnut side of Mercer Commons. Not sure when they'll be done, but they seem to be progressing pretty quickly. Phase Three of Mercer Commons will stretch from Vine to Walnut between Mercer and 14th Streets. Maybe that's what you're referring to. I'm not sure if anything is currently planned between 14th and 15th Streets between Vine and Walnut, but there's enough room for another massive new development there.
February 3, 201411 yr Travis which lens did you rent? You saw right away that wide angles can be tough to use to photograph streetscapes because you get so much street in so many shots. The way to reduce this is to take a 6ft. or 8ft. ladder around, but even that doesn't solve it in some situations. The other thing is old city photos had streetcar tracks and cobble streets, which break up the appearance of a street itself compared to plain asphalt.
February 3, 201411 yr I noticed they took down all the trees too. I know Urban Sites is rehabbing a building tag on the South Side of 15th right now. I'm wondering if it's maybe parking. I was hoping that Kroger might take that spot in the future for expansion. The Walnut St side of Mercer is fantastic! I can't wait to see street level retail on Walnut. I absolutely HATE those things on Mercer though. I would be ashamed to live in those. I really hope they plant some big trees there and water them profusely.

The other thing is old city photos had streetcar tracks and cobble streets, which break up the appearance of a street itself compared to plain asphalt. It was a 7-14mm f/4.0. I primarily rented it to take some interior shots as a freelance gig, and it worked great for that purpose. But yeah, the streetscapes definitely have a lot of street in them. In some cases, like with the last photo I posted above (13th Street buildings), I just cropped it out. On the Woodward Theater and Mercer Commons Townhomes pics, I liked the street texture enough to leave it in.
February 6, 201411 yr Some great shots! I think Main is the prettiest and most colorful street in OTR.
