Posted February 12, 201411 yr Hi all, as the weather looks like we're eventually going to thaw, I wanted to gauge the interest in having a casual forum meet for lunch. No specific date has been set, no venue has been selected, just throwing it out there to see if anyone would be interested. It's always nice to put a face to the screenname and I think a lot of people make more sense once you've met them in person. That said, here are the parameters: 1. Day of the week - I'm pretty flexible but it mostly depends on the projects I'm working on. 2. Location - somewhere central between East and West 9th, north of Huron, south of St. Clair. Sorry but no Flats East Bank, Asiatown, Ohio City, or somewhere not in the aforementioned boundaries. If a handful can make it, we'll probably go with a designated restaurant (inexpensive, locally owned and not too crowded is preferred); if a dozen or more can make it, we'll probably go with brownbagging it and meet at a designated gathering spot. 3. Time - 11:30ish/noon to 1ish aka standard lunch hour or however long you're able to stay. 4. Date - let's wait until we have a forecast of at least 40F and preferably no sideways rain. Things look somewhat promising toward the end of February. 5. Just to clarify - UrbanOhio is not paying for your lunch :-) So at this point just reply if it's something you might be interested in - thanks! clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
February 12, 201411 yr Middle of the week usually works best for me. How about The Market Cafe, 1801 East 9th at Chester? (see http://www.themarketcafeandwinebar.com/ for those who don't know of it). They have lots of different types of food to choose from, there's long tables for large groups, it's between some of downtown's biggest developments and best of all, it's an easy walk from my office! Afterwards, maybe we can sweet talk the security guard in the Huntington to let us into the closed bank lobby next door? :) "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
February 12, 201411 yr I down for the meet up lunch, and I'm good with the Market Cafe. Another good cafeteria-style eatery is Zack Bruell's just opened Kafeteria in the BP building. Great food reasonably priced and plenty of seating. http://kafeteriacleveland.com/
February 12, 201411 yr I'd be interested. I can usually find a day during the week to get out, especially if we plan it out a little in advance.
February 13, 201411 yr I could do it, given enough notice. Honestly lunch is easier for me to get to than a happy hour.
February 13, 201411 yr Both Market Cafe and Kafeteria are good logistically; if we have some attendees driving in, Market Cafe would probably be preferable. We have plenty of time to plan :-) clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
February 13, 201411 yr Me too. Happy hour is a tough sell to the wife. Hey honey, I know you've had the kids all day, but I want to get together for drinks with some guys I met on the internet. No, it's great, we talk about buildings and urban planning, and one guy posts a bunch of pics of Meryl Streep and....why are you looking at me like that? Yes, UO, you're my dirty little mistress.
February 13, 201411 yr I would vote for Kafeteria. It would allow me to join my better half for lunch since she works in the building. She always wonders who posts the things I show her, now would be her chance to meet everyone.
February 13, 201411 yr I'd like to go, it will depend on my work schedule though. Either spot works for me.
February 13, 201411 yr I normally do a lot of lurking, but wouldn't mind putting faces to the usernames. Market cafe sounds good to me. I worry about logistics at Kafeteria. It gets pretty busy and, depending on the time, might be hard to find more than one open table close enough to put together.
February 13, 201411 yr I don't post much, but read this forum to learn about downtown developments. Lunch is good for me downtown.
February 13, 201411 yr If we go with Market Cafe and you're already downtown, hop either of the free trolleys (Superior or Euclid) to East 9th. Market Cafe is in between them. There is often on-street parking on Chester or 12th as no one seems to look there, and free parking is just west of East 9th on Euclid (can be tough to get). Whaddya say we do Kafeteria for the next one? I think we ought to consider a regular, monthly get-together for lunch, like the second Wednesday of every month? We check here to see where it will be held next. How's that? We can even do a poll each month with new choices each time. February 14, 201411 yr Pick a date and I will see if I can schedule some downtown Cleveland meetings that day.
February 14, 201411 yr Every time I see this thread pop up in my "Show new replies to your posts" I read it as "Downtown Forum Lunch Meat?" Which takes this into a whole new territory
March 6, 201411 yr Wow, this one sure died off quickly. Time to jumpstart it! I'm proposing the UO Lunch Meet for the second Wednesday of each month, which means the first one would be next week at noon on March 12. And let's do it at the Market Cafe & Wine Bar, 1801 East 9th Street at Chester Avenue, in the Ohio Savings Plaza building. March 7, 201411 yr I can probably make it, but not sure if we want to stick to a set day in case some can't do Wednesdays at all. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
March 8, 201411 yr I can probably make it, but not sure if we want to stick to a set day in case some can't do Wednesdays at all. It makes it easy to remember and reduces the planning necessary for each one. And if someone can't make it for a couple of months, how is that any worse than our current frequency of meet-ups? March 8, 201411 yr Any way we could do the 3rd Wednesdays? I'm booked most 2nd and 4th Wednesdays during lunch.
March 10, 201411 yr OK, let's do it on the 3rd Wednesday. I say that for broader, practical reasons -- a storm is due to hit us on Wednesday this week. So see you all at at noon on March 19 at the Market Cafe & Wine Bar, 1801 East 9th Street at Chester Avenue, in the Ohio Savings Plaza building. March 10, 201411 yr That works for me. I have to be in Toledo in the morning and then Canton in the afternoon this week
March 17, 201411 yr Just bumping this up - this Wednesday at noon. I'll try to snag one of the communal tables on the East 9th side. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

March 18, 201411 yr I think I can make this! It's been a long time since I've seen any of you guys in person!
March 19, 201411 yr Okay folks, I'm going to snag one of the communal tables by the windows facing East 9th. The forecast is for rain showers, so heads up. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
March 20, 201411 yr Very well, six of us showed up - winterton, biker16, hello65, KJP, Whipjacka and myself. We'll definitely have another meetup soon. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
March 20, 201411 yr It was great meeting you guys today. Thanks for organizing. I look forward to the next one.
March 20, 201411 yr It was good meeting Hello65 and Winterton. Already knew the other characters! At the gathering, I mentioned a future UO lunch (when the warms a bit more!) could be in Perk Park on Walnut Wednesdays when all the food trucks converge. April 29, 201411 yr Okay folks, just throwing out the suggestion of another lunch-time forum meet - any opinions on next Thursday, May 8th? I'm thinking Market Cafe at East 9th/Chester again but I'm open to other spots - just have to watch the weather forecasts this time of year. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
April 29, 201411 yr As of right now I'm open that day. But I'm a very important man. I'm a division manager in charge of 49 people. I drive a Dodge Stratus Edit: ↓ I can do 100 push ups in 20 minutes! Actually, I'm open any day except Friday

I can do that day. But Whipajacka can come Wednesday -- the day before, and another forumer from Cincinnati (he doesn't post often) may be able to come on Friday -- the day after.
