CLEVELAND - Downtown Forum Lunch Meet - July 30th or July 31st? (see last page)

Hi all, as the weather looks like we're eventually going to thaw, I wanted to gauge the interest in having a casual forum meet for lunch. No specific date has been set, no venue has been selected, just throwing it out there to see if anyone would be interested. It's always nice to put a face to the screenname and I think a lot of people make more sense once you've met them in person. That said, here are the parameters:

1. Day of the week - I'm pretty flexible but it mostly depends on the projects I'm working on.

2. Location - somewhere central between East and West 9th, north of Huron, south of St. Clair. Sorry but no Flats East Bank, Asiatown, Ohio City, or somewhere not in the aforementioned boundaries. If a handful can make it, we'll probably go with a designated restaurant (inexpensive, locally owned and not too crowded is preferred); if a dozen or more can make it, we'll probably go with brownbagging it and meet at a designated gathering spot.

3. Time - 11:30ish/noon to 1ish aka standard lunch hour or however long you're able to stay.

4. Date - let's wait until we have a forecast of at least 40F and preferably no sideways rain. Things look somewhat promising toward the end of February.

5. Just to clarify - UrbanOhio is not paying for your lunch  :-)

So at this point just reply if it's something you might be interested in - thanks!

Middle of the week usually works best for me.

How about The Market Cafe, 1801 East 9th at Chester? (see http://www.themarketcafeandwinebar.com/ for those who don't know of it). They have lots of different types of food to choose from, there's long tables for large groups, it's between some of downtown's biggest developments and best of all, it's an easy walk from my office! Afterwards, maybe we can sweet talk the security guard in the Huntington to let us into the closed bank lobby next door? :)

I down for the meet up lunch, and I'm good with the Market Cafe.  Another good cafeteria-style eatery is Zack Bruell's just opened Kafeteria in the BP building.  Great food reasonably priced and plenty of seating.  http://kafeteriacleveland.com/

I'd be interested. I can usually find a day during the week to get out, especially if we plan it out a little in advance.

Big maybe... coming from Euclid and all

I could do it, given enough notice. Honestly lunch is easier for me to get to than a happy hour.

Me too. Happy hour is a tough sell to the wife. Hey honey, I know you've had the kids all day, but I want to get together for drinks with some guys I met on the internet. No, it's great, we talk about buildings and urban planning, and one guy posts a bunch of pics of Meryl Streep and....why are you looking at me like that?

Yes, UO, you're my dirty little mistress.

^nice

I would vote for Kafeteria.  It would allow me to join my better half for lunch since she works in the building.  She always wonders who posts the things I show her, now would be her chance to meet everyone.

I'd like to go, it will depend on my work schedule though.  Either spot works for me.

I'm in. The middle of the week is perfect.

I normally do a lot of lurking, but wouldn't mind putting faces to the usernames. Market cafe sounds good to me. I worry about logistics at Kafeteria. It gets pretty busy and, depending on the time, might be hard to find more than one open table close enough to put together.

I don't post much, but read this forum to learn about downtown developments.  Lunch is good for me downtown.

If we go with Market Cafe and you're already downtown, hop either of the free trolleys (Superior or Euclid) to East 9th. Market Cafe is in between them. There is often on-street parking on Chester or 12th as no one seems to look there, and free parking is just west of East 9th on Euclid (can be tough to get).

Whaddya say we do Kafeteria for the next one? I think we ought to consider a regular, monthly get-together for lunch, like the second Wednesday of every month? We check here to see where it will be held next. How's that? We can even do a poll each month with new choices each time.

Pick a date and I will see if I can schedule some downtown Cleveland meetings that day.

Every time I see this thread pop up in my "Show new replies to your posts" I read it as "Downtown Forum Lunch Meat?"

Which takes this into a whole new territory

Hahaha!! You're a twisted soul Musky.

Wow, this one sure died off quickly. Time to jumpstart it!

I'm proposing the UO Lunch Meet for the second Wednesday of each month, which means the first one would be next week at noon on March 12. And let's do it at the Market Cafe & Wine Bar, 1801 East 9th Street at Chester Avenue, in the Ohio Savings Plaza building.

I won't be able to make it. I have a Dr.'s appt. around that time. :/

That'll work. I'm in.

I'm already booked that day :-(

I should be able to make that.

As soon as I find new employment in CLE, I'll be there.

I can probably make it, but not sure if we want to stick to a set day in case some can't do Wednesdays at all.

It makes it easy to remember and reduces the planning necessary for each one. And if someone can't make it for a couple of months, how is that any worse than our current frequency of meet-ups?

Any way we could do the 3rd Wednesdays?  I'm booked most 2nd and 4th Wednesdays during lunch.

OK, let's do it on the 3rd Wednesday. I say that for broader, practical reasons -- a storm is due to hit us on Wednesday this week. So see you all at  at noon on March 19 at the Market Cafe & Wine Bar, 1801 East 9th Street at Chester Avenue, in the Ohio Savings Plaza building.

That works for me. I have to be in Toledo in the morning and then Canton in the afternoon this week

Just bumping this up - this Wednesday at noon. I'll try to snag one of the communal tables on the East 9th side.

Thanks!

I'm out. Had to schedule a lunch meeting for that time. Maybe next month.

I think I can make this!  It's been a long time since I've seen any of you guys in person!

Hope I'll be able to make it!

Great.  I'll plan to meet you there.

Sorry, I can't make it. But have fun with your lunch meat.

I am out. I was going to try to squeeze it in but it's not going to work out

I had something come up last minute.  How was it?

I totally missed this, dangit. Will def make the next.

It was great meeting you guys today.  Thanks for organizing.  I look forward to the next one.

It was good meeting Hello65 and Winterton. Already knew the other characters! At the gathering, I mentioned a future UO lunch (when the warms a bit more!) could be in Perk Park on Walnut Wednesdays when all the food trucks converge.

As of right now I'm open that day. But I'm a very important man. I'm a division manager in charge of 49 people. I drive a Dodge Stratus

Edit: ↓ I can do 100 push ups in 20 minutes!

Actually, I'm open any day except Friday

What, no high-mileage Volvo?

I can do that day. But Whipajacka can come Wednesday -- the day before, and another forumer from Cincinnati (he doesn't post often) may be able to come on Friday -- the day after.
