April 11, 20187 yr ^ Sachsenheim is a hidden treasure. Check it out on Taco Tuesday’s or Wing Wednesdays. They also have $1 burgers on Thursdays. Specials on Fridays can be a surprise. So much character. It’s fun to roam around that place, inconspicuously of course ;-) Ps the cook there is Grumpy, from Grumpys Cafe fame in Tremont. It's open to the public?!?! Heck yeah https://m.yelp.com/biz/sachsenheim-hall-cleveland
April 14, 20187 yr Developer plans to revive old bakery as apartments Efforts are underway to rejuvenate a one-time bakery building at 2707 Barber Ave. in Cleveland as 69 rental apartments. The sprawling, four-block long structure dates to 1900 when it was constructed for the J. Spang Baking Co., which was acquired by the former Laub Baking Co. in 1958, according to "The Encyclopedia of Cleveland History." The local history said Spang's roots go back to 1888 when founder Julius Spang opened a "small bake shop" using skills as a baker he learned in Germany before coming to the U.S. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20180411/news/157951/developer-plans-revive-old-bakery-apartments This is at the northeast corner of the MetroWest CDC service area just north of I-90: http://www.ohiocity.org/sites/default/files/styles/full_width/public/images/featured_image/OHC%20Service%20Area%20Map%2003-25-14.jpg?itok=Toa1ebTJ
April 14, 20187 yr Cleveland antiquers are living their Googie dream Margaret Daole and Dave Crider of Googie Style are hunters. Clawing their way through garage sales, flea markets and estate sales, they find treasures with which to fill their galleries, carefully curated with vintage and mid-century furniture; art and unusual décor; as well as Crider's handmade furniture. In November, Googie moved from a small Madison Avenue storefront in Lakewood to a 2,500-square-foot warehouse space on West 33rd Street in Cleveland's Clark-Fulton neighborhood on the city's West Side. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20180317/news/155136/cleveland-antiquers-are-living-their-googie-dream8-11-2012 I grew up on the West side of Cleveland in the 60's & 70's and it's nice to see one of the older neighborhoods that's NOT a Hot Spot for development get some much needed TLC!
April 17, 20187 yr I drove by the new DOLLAR GENERAL store under construction at Fulton and Walton, just north of Clark Avenue earlier today. It look like it's mostly completed at least with the brick walls. That former parking lot has been there since the 70's and has slowly been getting bigger over the years.......

I know that the guy who started Tony's Market at Clark Ave near McDonald's many years ago. has bought up a lot of the properties along Clark Ave including what's now the Save A Lot. Near West 25 St..... He owns most of the lots along Clark from the drivethur beverage store just west of Fulton to West 25 Street.

June 30, 20186 yr And the local pols will pat themselves on the back for replacing the once walled off Metro campus with a mile of green space, still separating it from the neighborhood. Only now figuratively walled off instead of literally. On West 25th no less, where the city and RTA should be looking for TOD, not parks.

July 1, 20186 yr I thought there was a decent amount of scholarship concluding park-like settings help the recovery process in urban hospitals?
July 1, 20186 yr The only patients you ever see outdoors at a hospital are the ones looking for a place to smoke. Nobody is going to use these park areas except maybe employees on a sunny day during lunch hour. This whole thing looks like it could've been designed for a suburban highway interchange area, not a city neighborhood. It's about as urban as Eaton's corporate campus in Beachwood. (although at least it's not surrounded by a sea of surface lots...)
July 1, 20186 yr I thought there was a decent amount of scholarship concluding park-like settings help the recovery process in urban hospitals? So if we're trying to become America's health care capitol, we haven't bulldozed nearly enough. DESTROOOOOOOOY!
July 1, 20186 yr I thought there was a decent amount of scholarship concluding park-like settings help the recovery process in urban hospitals? I agree. It’s all about the healing environment. HGA designs hospitals all over the US, and are very in tune with the current design trends in healthcare. We may not like it from an urban perspective, but it’s about the patients and their families.
July 1, 20186 yr I don't know what the scholarship actually says, but my guess is there is a better way to implement it in an urban environment then just "big suburban lawn on all sides".
July 1, 20186 yr It won’t ultimately just be a lawn, it will be a park. The design just isn’t done. I have enough faith in Metrohealth that they know what they’re doing. They have been investing in the neighborhood and created a CDC to bring in new investment in West 25
July 15, 20186 yr July 15, 2018 4:01 am Potential realty project site bought Metrohealth affiliate By STAN BULLARD CCH Development Corp., the nonprofit fostered by MetroHealth to shepherd revitalization of the neighborhood surrounding its campus, has put $1.3 million into buying what's seen as a key parcel in redeveloping West 25th Street. The grass-covered field on West 25th stretching between Trowbridge and Woodbridge avenues across the street from MetroHealth's campus consisted of 13 parcels that CCH bought July 2. The site covers 2 acres, which is significant in urban development terms. Tina Arundel, MetroHealth spokeswoman, said the year-old CCH has little to say about the site because its plans are just starting to be developed. "CCH is committed to the development of the West 25th Street corridor," Arundel said. November 9, 20186 yr Can someone help me understand this? A company created less than a year ago and called TAC Holding Co LLC bought 17 parcels on Oct. 30-31 for $1 million on West 25th, Wade and Seymour, just south of I-90. The purchases were made in five smaller groupings, apparently so as to not attract attention. The incorporator of TAC Holding is a young veterinarian from Tremont Animal Clinic named Katheryn McCoy. Now, I know being a vet pays an OK salary. But enough to buy mostly vacant properties for $1 million? November 9, 20186 yr ^Impossible to know if the money is hers or if she has a group of investors with and behind her.
November 9, 20186 yr Perhaps the Tremont Animal Clinic (the source of the name TAC Holding Co) is going to move? It may have outgrown its current site, 3148 West 14th Street. Tremont Animal Clinic opened only four years ago and their website shows a pretty large staff (18 full-time equivalents) for such a new business. The current site is owned by Sandy Banks LLC which, in turn, was incorporated by someone named Thomas Leneghan. November 9, 20186 yr I actually really like the design. I swear if they tear down that historic building at W 25th and Wade though...
November 9, 20186 yr I don't know how accurate Google Maps is, but it shows the eastern side of W. 25th to Clark as Tremont. Not that it matters I guess, these border projects benefit both neighborhoods. Just now, YO to the CLE said: I actually really like the design. I swear if they tear down that historic building at W 25th and Wade though... Agreed. Who knows what their long term plans are. Though, the SOP in Cleveland is to let it deteriorate for years, then complain that it's too expensive to maintain or renovate and must come down.

During its Tuesday meeting, the board approved a seven-year, Program-Related Investment loan for a makeover of the former Astrup Co. building, at West 25th Street and Seymour Avenue. Local developer Rick Foran plans to renovate the 80,000-square-foot complex as a home for creative tenants and nonprofit organizations with ties to the Latino community. The Cleveland Museum of Art has signed a letter of intent - a precursor to a lease - on 19,000 square feet of the complex for a community-arts center and gallery. Other potential occupants include an arts center for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland; Inlet Dance Theatre; a Spanish-language media group; a Puerto Rican restaurant; and film, podcasting and woodworking studios.
