February 13, 200619 yr Bellefonte and State College have some amazing streescapes. Reading wins the award for best looking "down and out" place in the country.
February 13, 200619 yr Reading looks pleasingly dense and surprisingly intact. Bellefonte is a real charmer, and Penn's Cave isn't far away. They have boat tours, but I don't know if it's open in the winter. The war memorial park at nearby Boalsburg is one of the more moving things I've experienced in roaming parts of Pennsylvania, too. I've always skipped over State College, but should probably check it out.
April 26, 200916 yr I'm glad this post never got deleted. Since my girlfriend is planning to go to Penn State Main Campus, and I have a few friends from Bellefonte, I found this thread very entertaining. Gorgeous areas. I have to get down there soon.
April 26, 200916 yr Whoa, I'm only three years behind on this one. Reading is a very urban looking city for being under 100,000. I like the place even though it has some issues. Bellefonte, plain and simple, is a Victorian gem. Love it. State College - even in the rain it's a Big Ten champ. And good to see old Eg in there. Thanks for the tour(s).
April 29, 200916 yr Wow, very impressive. Pennsylvania is a beautiful state, and State College looks like an awesome town.
May 1, 200916 yr Nice thread. Reading is DEFINITELY the best of the cities above judging from these shots, and State College has a little too much modernist on the cheap for my liking, but very nicely done photo thread!
May 1, 200916 yr Yeah, State College is my least favorite of the three (judged solely on these pics) but they are all fantastic. What are the people like in Reading and Bellefonte? Were these on the same trip? Reading is nowhere near Bellefonte and State College...I'm sure there are a lot of really cool places between the three. Where'd those pics go?
May 1, 200916 yr The people of Reading are blue-collar and less-inviting. Bellefonte was more old-fashioned folks. And yes, all of those were taken in a day. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
May 2, 200916 yr I have met a few people from Bellefonte at the Clinton Central Model RR Club, which is only a half hour away, and they are some of the nicest people I have ever met. The one is a district Judge, and I never knew it until he told me haha. One of these weekends when I don't have a sh!tload of end-semester work to do, I'm going to take drive out there. It's a little over an hour from me.
November 15, 201014 yr Yeah I'm glad this was bumped. State College is fun, but the only real pretty area of downtown that I have seen is Allen street. Some of the newer construction is nice, but the rest is bleh. Bellefonte is gorgeous. I have been there a few times now and it's just breathtaking. Sadly there have been some pretty devastating fires in the last few years. Just last year the Cadillac Building burned, which is being rebuilt. Also the Bush House, photo #3 in the Bellefonte section, apparently burned around the same time this thread was posted. I did some googling and it burned to the ground on Feb. 8, 2006. :-( Bellefonte is still a beautiful town and I plan on going through it again the next time I'm on my way home from State College.
