Posted February 14, 200619 yr An interesting new web tool to look at comparable real estate values in your neighbohood. http://online.wsj.com/article_email/SB113935396648967688-lMyQjAxMDE2MzA5OTMwNTkzWj.html (link active for 7 days) THE MOSSBERG SOLUTION By WALTER S. MOSSBERG AND KATHERINE BOEHRET For Real-Estate Voyeurs February 8, 2006; Page D1 If there's anything Americans obsess over as much as sports, pop culture and college for their kids, it's real estate. All over the country, people love to talk about how much their homes, and those of their neighbors, might be worth if sold today and what it would take to snag a new house. Trouble is, it's hard for average folks to obtain solid, neutral estimates of the market values of homes without consulting a real-estate agent. There have been a few Web sites that offer estimates of a home's value, such as housevalues.com. But they require you to enter your contact information and to be contacted by a real-estate agent or mortgage broker in order to actually receive a detailed estimate. While these sites look like they are focused on the consumer, they are actually designed to generate sales leads for agents.
February 14, 200619 yr cool although i beat ya to it! :-D http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=7463.msg75988#msg75988 but yeah its wild. i have no clue how they keep it current. i think this one is even more creative, its not ohio, but something like this could be done for ohio too: http://www.propertyshark.com/maps/
February 14, 200619 yr The prices have got to be overblown. All I did was put in that my house was 2073 square feet and the value went up $127,000! Something isn't right.
February 14, 200619 yr This site is a total mess. At least for Hamilton, the aerial must be 3 or 4 years old as many newer streets and buildings don't exist. They have a single family home on the courthouse lawn and in the middle of smart paper. I wouldn't use this as a percise tool, but I do like the ability to move around the aerial very quickly.
February 14, 200619 yr ^ease, its in beta. it just came out i think like a week ago. give it some time. even if it never works right, the concept of the site is pretty cool, if not yet the reality.
February 14, 200619 yr The concept is cool, but it says that my house is worth $20,000 - $30,000 less than it actually is.

February 18, 200619 yr I checked my house and it shows a wacky value history - a huge peak around 2000 or so, then a dip, weird stuff...not related to 9/11, not related to the riots, so I don't know what the story was...couldn't get it to come up on my wife's mac or I'd be more specific...
