Posted April 5, 201411 yr Hey again! The second part of my March 2014 Cincinnati, Ohio trip features one of the finest intact urban neighborhoods in the United States, Over-the-Rhine, just north of downtown Cincinnati. The neighborhood was once a haven for German immigrants and was nicknamed "Over-the-Rhine" because of how German settlers crossed the Miami and Erie Canals to get to downtown much like crossing the Rhine River in Germany. The neighborhood went into a severe decline in around the infamous 2001 riots. But over the last few year, the neighborhood south of Liberty Street has experienced an incredible comeback and revitalization, with the openings of numerous restaurants, bars, businesses, and the addition of residential units. The neighbourhood is said to contain the highest amount of italianate of any place in the United States. Without further ado, let's begin the tour of this fine urban neighbourhood… Fine commercial blocks along Vine Street in Over-the-Rhine Over-the-Rhine Historical Marker Another building to be renovation/preserved... April 12, 201411 yr Perhaps one of the most comprehensive and valuable photo-shoots of OTR ever. Many onlookers and admirers (myself included) will undoubtedly be referring back and forth to this pictorial "catalogue" of Cincy's most celebrated neighborhood as a reference point, as transformations there continue.

April 13, 201411 yr Very nice! Did I read that Music Hall is getting renovated? Wouldn't hold my breath for it, but it's supposed to happen. A private group wanted the city to give the building to them (or sell it for a dollar or whatever) so they would invest and fix it up. That was controversial, and I think the resolution was that council agreed to a 99 year lease. Something like that. But a schedule for renovations is so far elusive. Someone else probably knows more, remembers better, or will bother finding the relevant articles.
April 27, 201411 yr Wonderful photo tour of this magnificent, super-urban neighborhood. And the coming streetcar will make it even more fabulous. Thanks so much for posting.
