The ancient world knew of 7 planets. Here they are in one composite picture.

^ your picture only contains 6 planets, the sun is a star not a planet.

Well if we're gonna be pedantic, neither is the moon.  But Ptolemy and the other ancient Greeks and Romans considered all seven of those objects to be "planets" (a word which means "wandering star", btw), and that was the dominant belief for centuries.

Eighth and State, do you have any more information about that picture (who took/made the image, information about the telescope, etc.?)

celestial bodies?

The picture is a composite of 7 of my own photos, taken on different days, from different places in the Cincinnati area. The sun photo was taken with a solar filter, obviously. Jupiter and Saturn were taken through an 8" reflector, Mercury and Venus through a 80 mm refractor, and the 3 others were taken through a 127 mm Maksutov. The cameras were 3 different entry level digital cameras. All of the photos are simple snapshots, without any post processing.

That's really cool, thanks!

wonderful - they are all so distinct.

or to anthromorphize a bit, its like they have their own very unique personalities.

doyou have any shots of comets or of the iss?

In ancient days, people did not know the difference between stars, planets, and moons.

the mars rover curiosity was recently spotted 4/11/14.

(its false color on the lower left, at 2 o'clock by the butte).
