Since the last Smitherman thread was lost, we're overdue for a new one.

I watched his most recent cable news show on 4/9/14.  Here are some of the highlights:

'you have 5 very liberal Democrats, who are operators telling the owner what they're going to do '

' This fight will cost $1m to 1.5m easy.  This fight will end badly for Cincinnati '

'I don't really follow sports.  I try to stay in my lane and my lane is money'

'It doesn't get any worse than this. If we had a recall provision, this would be a reason to recall members of Council '

' They created this slush fund with no accountability.  All roads are leading back to The Richardsons'

'they spent $100000 trying trying to get rid of me & support Chris seelbach &  Yvette Simpson.  Cincinnatians  for progress, this phantom Organization , promoted seelbach, Simpson, Dillingham, & then attacked my campaign'

'the goal was to take control of council to maintain their five votes on council to keep control of that slush fund... What they said is how can we separate Smitherman from his base  with the African-American community '

'Rob Richardson is trying to control $3.5 billion by lying to you and telling you I'm a member of the tea party. Some of you don't critically think and took the bait and walk around like robots.  Tell me how little of a critical thinker you are'

'All of this is connected.  THE POLITICAL MAFIA IS ALL CONNECTED.  It's no different than the mob.  No different than any kind of gangster'

'I'm going to try & say this without using any kind of profanity.  What the richardsons didn't tell Jonathan white is who he is messing with. Jonathan, if you're watching this, I suggest u cut a deal.  I am not going to stop until I find you and hold you accountable. I will search for you through this whole country.  I WILL FIND YOU IF YOU GO INTERNATIONAL. I will track you down. I have every single dog on the street, I have your clothing, and I let those dogs smell your clothes and they are coming for you. You're not going to come to Cincinnati from Dayton, Johnathan white, and lie to the citizens of Cincinnati without us finding out exactly who you are. I tell buddy you better get a good lawyer.  My resources are unlimited.... He thought I would just drop it. NOPE.  Not even a little bit'

'The Democrats in Cincinnati have run Cincinnati like a mob in the last 42 years.  Cincinnati has not been controlled by Republicans. You cannot blame potholes on Republicans.  You cannot blame mahoganys on Republicans. You cannot blame the streetcar on Republicans. You cannot blame the downgrade on Republicans. You cannot blame the pension on Republicans. You cannot blame the operating deficits on Republicans.  U all act like sheep,  March into the ballot place saying I'm not going to vote for any Republican.  Then you drive into a pothole... The people responsible for all of that are the Democrats.  I'm an independent.  I'm just trying to tell you the damn truth'

'We cannot afford a Choo Choo train '

' just like Nurse Rivers did in the Tuskegee syphilis study.  Bad blood is the book.  That you don't have syphilis u have bad blood. '

' He(Richardson) is sitting by the door as a gatekeeper for the power structure & to keep you out... He's padding his own pocket to try and position 265 and then justify his salary as a lawyer/lobbyist'

'the Democrats on council, this is cold blooded, know that the ordinance is bad but they are pandering to their constituents who give them money '

' uc has 1 of their board members undermining the whole institution of the University of Cincinnati. .. If you're a uc student or parent, remember all those names as you write those tuition bills in the fall'

'I've got a son who's about to go to college.  Period '

' They (council)  want to accomplish something that is absolutely ILLEGAL! !! '

' If you're listening to black radio or Lincoln ware, he's not going to be sharing with you the facts'

Spoken like a true cult leader....

wow, I've never seen the show, and never knew he was so unhinged.

How is he producing this TV show? He did have a show on Media Bridges, which is now shut down. Did he find some other public access station or is he paying to produce this show?

yes, he's on Waycross now, I believe.

altho I was just watching a committee meeting & when Slitherman's on, it's pretty much a show.

230704.myvideotalkstudio.com/streaming/pages

It usually starts off so polite and calm.  Then he gets rolling.  The one before the election  he said he was going to pull councils pants down and spank their little Tushs.  For some reason the local media just ignores it all.

Some other quotes from the latest podcast :

'He(Lincoln ware host of the buzz radio station)  is going to be lifting up rob Richardson who's paying money to the buzz for a show on Saturday. They are going to feed African American listeners.  The 10 callers and 200 listeners. I don't know if you all know this about the buzz.  The buzz radio station is about 27 or 28 in the market in Cincinnati.  They are very very low on the food chain on listenership.... They talk a lot of game but realize their reach is a click out of Avondale... You got callers speaking in tongues,  Lincoln ware is making a mockery of the Bible'

'some of these ministers have been bought off and paid off.  You really have to pick and choose your ministers because some of them are in bed with the enemy'

'I don't make a mockery of the Bible '

' it is our belief that Rob Richardson is involved in Cincinnatians for progress '

Smitherman is certifiably insane.

Mahogany's owner, Smitherman battle over business plan

Mahogany's owner Liz Rogers was so protective of her business plan she threatened to take the matter to court rather than release it to the Cincinnati city councilman who wanted to review it.

In the end, the owner of The Banks restaurant shared it, imploring that Cincinnati City Councilman Christopher Smitherman not share it with the public in order to protect business secrets, records obtained by the Enquirer show.

Smitherman wanted the plan because Rogers is $23,000 behind on her loan payments to the city and he's concerned she won't be able to repay taxpayers.

He has not yet reviewed the plan; the Enquirer is seeking a copy of the plan.

' it is our belief that Rob Richardson is involved in Cincinnatians for progress '

Rob Richardson was co-chair of CFP's No on 9 campaign in 2009.  As of 2014 CFP is pretty much one guy, Derek Bauman.

It's amazing that an endorsement from a madman will probably carry weight around here.

Smitherman just endorsed tea party darling chris monzel in the hamilton county commissioner race

The first crack in the Smitherman/Cranley alliance?

Doubt it.  Those two are practically inseparable.

A blurb on the radio this AM that his plan is to make sure the streetcar doesn't run if the loss of the $5MM means that the ops costs are bore by the general fund.  Here we go!

Their game plan is so simple and so predictable.  I'm still shocked people take them seriously in this city after they've been proven wrong so many times & exposed as lying for political gain

When the streetcar is finished and everyone starts to like it, will he change his tune (probably) and will his voter base stay with him?

To be honest, with the streetcar, there's never going to be a time when "everybody" likes it.  Just like OTR development, there are plenty of people who don't like what's happening.  A majority does, but MANY people think it's a huge waste of money.  There will still be people in Cincy, and especially in Hamilton County, who think the Streetcar is a huge waste of money no matter what happens along the line.  They will be people who live far from downtown and work far from downtown and don't come downtown.  They will dislike it no matter what, and they will love Smitherman still.  he won't change his tune. He will play to the people who don't like it forever.

And it's also important to note that there are major grumblings of chris smitherman running for hcc soon. I've heard it from 3 different people. This is Precisely why he's appealing to the conservative crowd on 700wlw. I think it's a huge reason he's still so vocally anti streetcar and is a huge reason for his extreme change in political beliefs

He is not term limited on city council.  He is technically able to serve 10 years because the 4-year terms charter amendment did not apply to those who were first elected in 2011.  However it's worth noting that there are no term limits for county commissioner, so he'll pounce when he senses that the time is right.  However that position does not necessarily lead to state office, and at some point he's going to mess up so big that he will be done.  I mean, if just one person had video'd him going berserk in council chambers in summer 2011, right before he was elected, his career would have been finished.

Local news tv recorded it. I believe channel 5. Then they buried it and never showed it for some reason

Yeah, but they don't really matter, because those people probably don't live in the city or vote for people like Smitherman anyhow.

^Many of them do live in the suburbs of Hamilton county and a large number live on the westside of Cincy. If he runs for HCC or mayor those are the people he will go after for money, volunteers voters etc.

So- back to the streetcar :

Diamond looks great, they are rebuilding the corners soon.

I've been told traffic signals may start to switch over in the next few weeks.

The court & walnut pour seemed to go so fast! It's amazing that by years end we may be at 2nd St on Walnut!

Let's pray for a dry fall!

Smitherman has sets of "white guy" clothes (dad jeans, etc.) that he wears while hustling white west siders.  About two years ago he announced that he was an alter boy (has anyone confirmed this?) and he's been using the Catholic angle to seduce these people.

I guess I'm just a cynic. I don't really believe white conservatives in HamCo will vote for a black guy from the city who used to be a liberal. Streetcar or no streetcar. It's not that he couldn't spin a good story, I just think any opponent running against him will destroy that story.

Exactly, be it a primary or general election there's no way Smitherman would keep the conservative, white, suburban crowd on board against an actual Republican candidate. Hating on the streetcar won't be enough.

It probably won't be Smitherman vs. a Republican, though. Just like the Republican party sat out the mayoral race and let Qualls vs. Cranley happen, they'll sit out the commissioners race and let Smitherman vs. Portune happen. WLW and KRC will be pro-Smitherman the way they were pro-Cranley, and that's all that matters.

Bingo.  Smitherman is good friends & supportive of Monzel and Hartmann.  No way he's running against either.  He's going after Portune to give HCC potentially 3 tea partiers/extremely conservative elected officials(Unless hartmann steps down & decides not to run again)

That's why he's venting against the streetcar & supporting the tea party(or 'independent' movement as he calls it) on 700wlw & 55krc.

^It would be an upgrade for Cincinnati.  The Hamilton County Commissioners are already anti-Cincinnati, and it would move one the biggest obstructionist and grandstander off of city council.

That's likely to happen if Winburn wins the state senate race this year and we get to vote for his replacement. But if Smitherman serves over 1/2 of his term and then leaves, he gets to appoint his own replacement. That could be Melissa Wegman, Angela Beamon, Sandra Queen Noble, or some other anti-city obstructionist person.

So did Smitherman pull strings with his new Republican buddies in state government to have Mahogany's closed a day before a pro-Rob Richardson event?

Smitherman now speaking with a distinctly "whiter" accent on WLW.

He definitely changes his speech patterns depending on the crowd. I took a few local politics classes at UC and he came in several times to talk to the class. Having grown up hearing him on the news all the time, it was easy to tell that his entire demeanor changes based on his audience. He's scarily good at it.

^not unlike the POTUS.

There's nothing inherently wrong with his tone, demeanor, speech patterns, or whatever changing with his audience. That's the signature of a good public speaker - s/he can meet their audience where they are. The problem with Smitherman is generally the content of his speaking, which is complete whack-a-doodle nonsense.

Ethics complaint against Christopher Smitherman regarding Mahogany's from Liz Rogers attorney.  His 2nd ethics complaint is less than a year regarding his brother's business

http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/politics/2014/09/29/mahoganys-takes-smitherman-to-ethics-commission/16419459/

In the complaint dated Sept. 28, Attorney Robert Croskery contends Smitherman is angry his brother's company, Josten Construction Company, was not hired to build-out the interior of Mahogany's.

"Councilman Smitherman's clear duty... was to recuse himself from decisions regarding Mahogany's from that point forward," Croskery wrote in the complaint. "However, he did not do so. Rather, he voted (against) the loan to Liz Rogers. He subsequently has spoken out against the loan on numerous occasions."

Smitherman said the allegation "is absolutely not true." He added that he does not know what projects his brother works on -- and what projects he doesn't.

"This shows deep sense of desperation from somebody who has failed at a business," Smtiherman said. "It's sad. There is nothing she can produce to show a fact. She is throwing things against a wall and seeing if something sticks."

I did not see it but apparently Liz Rogers had some words for Christopher Smitherman today at the city council meeting

Chris and Albert Smitherman have hired tea party COAST lawyer Chris Finney to represent them against the ethics accusations.

Smitherman denies everything

The lawyer for Rogers says he has direct evidence linking Chris Smitherman to a conflict of interest

^ It'd be great if she does have evidence and is able to get Smitherman on an ethics violation. I don't think it would help her case any, but I wouldn't mind Smitherman getting in trouble.

I'm not convinced they have any evidence of this, but it would be great if they did.

Smitherman took an indirect verbal beating from Winburn and many citizens on the 29th

Winburn and people were indirectly talking about him and his radio appearances among other things

I really think Smitherman is a POS and probably using this as an angle to get re-elected, but it is nice that people are willing to make an effort to catch some of these criminals.

"Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago." - Warren Buffett

I can not believe that Smitherman is still eligible for one additional four-year term. I can not wait until the day we no longer have to deal with this obstructionist.

Yeah, he was the one guy who lucked out with how the 4-year term charter amendment was written.

Yeah, he was the one guy who lucked out with how the 4-year term charter amendment was written.

Sittenfeld, Seelbach, and Simpson lucked out as well since they each had one two-year term starting in 2011, a four-year term starting in 2013, and are eligible for one more four-year term.

Smitherman just on 700WLW completely backing up Cranley's effort to force Harry Black to resign.

So what kind of dirt does Cranley have on Smitherman that forces Smitherman to back his every impulse?  Or is Cranley actually setting Smitherman up for failure in 3 years to Sittenfeld by eroding his support from Afro-American groups?
