Some of the apartments are finished, however most are still under construction. Building officially opens up the first week of August.

I would agree that it seems like there are two different audiences for the food being offered at each restaurant.  Having said that- I can't believe I haven't been to Heck's yet.  Guess who's gonna ch

^Again, that is not in the Garfield Building. :)

So where is it?

It is in the New England Building (under the Holiday Inn Express). There is a connector through Garfield, however.

But it's part of the same redevelopment

.@MarbleRoomCLE opens today, here's a sneak peek, and look at its fascinating history https://t.co/LaX1epOeae

A friend took this photo today of the Marble Room. Stunning!

I went through and toured the space last week. If you haven't yet, just pop in and take a look.  WOW is all I can say!  They did a fantastic job making a cavernous space feel cozy and comfortable while not taking away from the incredible architecture. Out of all the bank conversions we've seen recently this one amazed me the most.

Does anyone have an idea of of leasing is coming along at The Garfield?

  • 1 month later...

Leasing update at The Garfield.

At Cleveland-based Millennia Co.'s The Garfield, 1965 E. Sixth St., 40 suites were listed Tuesday, Jan. 9, as available, out of 123 suites that hit the market last fall after a $30 million conversion to apartments from offices. Millennia owner Frank Sinito, through his assistant, declined to comment on the project or the downtown market.

I toured the Garfield Building apartments this morning as I start my search for an apartment. They are gorgeous!!  The Leasing woman told me they are 80% leased, and hope to be at 90% by end of year.

^The Harness Cycle on the ground floor isn't doing well. Which is sad to hear

I'm assuming because no one knows its there....and they don't offer any discount to apartment residents.

I've had more than one friend in town on business raving about this place on social media.

The Marble Room is gorgeous. The food is very good but not great. Dinner for my wife and I with tip was over $200. If you're cost conscious, stick with the drinks/hors d'oeuvres at the bar (doesn't require reservations) .

I live next door and I’ve never even heard of it. Although I do cycling at school. Yikes.

I don't know how Heck's compares - my only experience was a million years ago at W30th and Bridge; but Shake Shack makes a pretty good burger. I wouldn't cross town for one, but I would definitely cross the street. I think ShSh will do very well in the Garfield Bldg.

Remember: It's the Year of the Snake

Heck's--at least the one in Ohio City--is a great place. Isn't Shake Shack some very mediocre greasy national chain? I truly hope Shakeshack doesn't bump Hecks...

Heck's Express has pretty comparable food, and its seemingly pretty busy when I've been there or walked past it. I think that they have different audiences? Shake Shack isn't terrible. I wouldn't go there personally when so many other local establishments have great burgers. But its great they're filling the space. I live right next door, and wait for the trolley there every morning to go to my internship. Its kind of sad looking at the empty building so often. Similarly, I'm glad Schofield has at least [again] temporarily filled their vacancy. Its been very lively with Lake Effect. These large "flagship" locations are expensive, and not many local places can necessarily afford them. I guess that it is a good sign that some national retailers are considering them.

Heck's Express is great. The shwarma with spicy fries is good stuff.

Havent even heard of shake shack until I went to Detroit earlier this year for NCAA basketball tournaments at Cesar's Arena. Me and a couple of bandmates from CSU were walking down the street and saw Shake Shack. Never Heard of it. I ate it, and it just tasted like steak n shake. I thought it was only Detroit/Michigan specific, but then again I've heard of In-n-out burger before but we don't have any of those up north, or even what-a-burger. I think out of state burger chains would be good in this market branching out into foodie cities. Just to taste what everyone has been 'Ranting and Raving' about. But it probably just tastes like fast food equivalent to steak n shake.

I wouldn't mind a Steak N Shake downtown either...

There was a bit of a brouhaha earlier in the year when it was announced that Shake Shack was going to Pinecrest and there was much rejoicing and fawning and then I and another poster suggested SS wasn't all that.  I can't believe you didn't see all of that important information in the Pinecrest thread, lol!

Really though, as far as burger joints, to each their own and I'm really glad to see SS in downtown Cleveland because it does signify increasing national awareness of the Cleveland downtown market.

Anything marketable is great imo, not going completely laissez faire of course. Even if it's a faster expanding restaurant than steak n shake.

I'm fine with Shake Shack moving in, even though I'd go Hecks Express if looking for a quick Burger.  Speaking of fast-casual burgers, I wonder why B Spot never expanded to a public-facing downtown location?

Is This Shake Shack Activity?

I’m not sure. I was only there briefly. It could be. I’m not sure what the process is to turn a blank box into a restaurant, but it’s probably easier than the conversion next door from a bank into a restaurant, haha.

  • 2 months later...

Does anyone know if the Shake Shack thing is still happening? I haven't seen any activity. The door still says "available for retail"

It is happening. They have been building out the interior and construction workers have been going in and out daily

Can confirm. I wait for the trolly there 4 mornings a week and always see them.

well since its on the way — and imho of course, here goes: the ss fries are maybe the best thing there. not the best ever, but acceptable. the burger is just ok. thats what i get once in a blue moon. i dont like the house shakesaucey burger though. the chicken stuff is ok. skip the hotdogs you got that elsewhere. the cold treets like shakes are way too sweet tasting for me, although you can get malt. its not going to outduel hecks burgers thats for sure.

Lol I’m not sure how it’s relevant, but I grew up internationally due to my father’s career. I’ve lived throughout Europe and other areas. I don’t speak ~midwestern~.
