April 24, 201411 yr that's really surprising that it's the largest Chinatown now. I remember when it was in 3rd place. Also I think Sunset Park is still heavily Latino, no? Too bad it's not so Norwegian anymore (also a lot of Finns at one time). Where can you get decent lutefisk? :-P http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
April 24, 201411 yr yes it used to be pretty forelorn along 8th ave, blue-collar, but never a bad neighborhood. its really neck and neck with flushing chinatown, but its cheaper, so i would guess it will stay larger, but who knows?
April 24, 201411 yr I can't believe how ignorant I am; I didn't even KNOW there was a second New York Chinatown. I just knew about the Manhattan one.
April 24, 201411 yr ^Flushing was the "second" one. This one is the third. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
April 25, 201411 yr and several other satellite level chinatowns beyond that. all worth a visit if you have like, unlimited visit time! size-wise, heres something about it being neck and neck with flushing: According to a Daily News article, Brooklyn's Chinatown has surpassed the size of Manhattan's Chinatown and now ranks #1 as the largest Chinatown in NYC with 34,218 Chinese residents, up from 19,963 in 2000, a 71% increase. The Flushing Chinatown (法拉盛華埠) ranks #2 as NYC's largest Chinese community with 33,526 Chinese, up from 17,363, a 93% increase. As with Manhattan's Chinatown, Chinese population has declined by 17%, from 34,554 to 28,681 since 2000. ^ of course, who knows about the undocumented?? i'd guess you could at least double that.
