I'm excited about this too, but why is WCPO the only outlet that has mentioned this?  That makes me nervous about whether this is likely or if we're just 1 of 15 possible cities.  I'm not a WCPO subscriber, so I can't read the entire article.

New Moerlein owner plans $30 million overhaul of historic OTR brewery buildings, may revive old brands By Andy Brownfield  –  Senior staff reporter, Cincinnati Business Courier May 31, 2022

Here is a free Biz Courier article with more info. :

California craft brewer eyes Cincinnati for $31M project

Greater Cincinnati is on the list of sites a California craft brewer is considering for a $31 million brewery project that would create 374 jobs, WCPO reports.

Stone Brewing Co., the nation’s 10th-largest craft brewer, is looking for a site to supply customers east of the Mississippi River. It expects the site would create more than 120,000 barrels of beer and $100 million in revenue each year

Looks like they want to put it by...the Wilmington Airport!?!?!

Well, it is Greater Cincinnati so that isn't a lie...

"You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

I would find it extremely unlikely that they would renovate an existing building in the Brewery District or in OTR in general.

I think they should use the former Kahn's slaughterhouse site in Camp Washington. Still a bike-able destination from Downtown, OTR, Northside, Clifton, etc, yet it has it's own flat space to work with.

I'm not sure if they are looking for heavy manufacturing at the site, though.

Thank you for posting this.  This is the part I was afraid of:

A company spokeswoman said more than 200 site proposals were submitted to Stone Brewing but wouldn’t say how many were still being considered.

I'll be really excited if more details emerge, but that doesn't sound like we're a lock for this.  Also, Wilmington?  It's possible that Wilmington was the only nearby place that submitted a site proposal (one of 200 being considered).

I would find it extremely unlikely that they would renovate an existing building in the Brewery District or in OTR in general.

It seems like they could form a strategic partnership with Rhinegeist (which has an abundance of space) that would allow Stone to start brewing almost immediately while they search for a more permanent site with a beer garden and whatnot, then allow Rhinegeist to simply take over the excess capacity after Stone settles into a new space 3-5 years down the road.  In the interim, they could make some great collaborative seasonal beers.

Okay, this has officially flown off my radar. It sounded interesting, but 200 sites and the local one is by Wilmington Airport? Ha. Nothing unique about that spot to lure them, so it won't happen. And if it did I couldn't bother getting excited about it any more than were it 300-something widget-producing jobs going to Wilmington.

Stone is one of the biggest craft breweries out there, I doubt any building in OTR would be big enough to handle the amount of brewing and distribution they would need. I imagine their new facility would be something closer to the Sam Adams brewery than a Rhinegiest or Moerlein. The Kahn's site, as mentioned above, might work.

It seems to me this article is much ado about nothing. Stone must have put out an RFP, and got 200 some responses, one of which is in Wilmington.

Google "stone brewing east coast" if you want to get a sense of what this really is.  There are local news stories from PA, NC, SC, and more all from the last week announcing that "our state is in the running".  Too bad.  I was hoping this was real interest in Cincy on the part of Stone.

I believe they are talking about Wilmington NC as I understand that they are also considering Greensboro, and Charlotte NC as well as several locations in South Carolina.

Assuming they are not trying to serve segments that are already geographically strong, Cincinnati is about the best place you can locate for distribution to the eastern two-thirds of the country.

Per this article, Columbus & Norfolk are the front runners...

Stone Brewing ‘focusing on Virginia and Ohio,’ passed-over mayor says

Doug Buchanan - Managing editor-digital - Columbus Business First

Supporters of the effort to get Stone Brewing Co. to put its coveted brewery project in Columbus can take heart in the comments of a North Carolina mayor who says the company may have narrowed its list to Virginia and Ohio.

Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan, speaking to our sister paper Triad Business Journal, said Stone Brewing had eliminated any North Carolina site from its search, focusing instead on the Northeast and Midwest.

With that shift in location, she said, anticipated fuel costs “automatically locked North and South Carolina out of contention. I believe they’re focusing on Virginia and Ohio at this point.”

Bad luck for those guys. Pretty sure their Metal Blast renovation isn't happening anytime soon either.

Meanwhile, Blank Slate is in the process of building a taproom.

Hmmm here we go again:

http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2014/09/09/eden-park-brewery-back-on-track.html

At least its back on track, after like being delayed a few months at least.... typical.

I'm really excited about this project.  It's an awesome building and it'll be nice to see it put back to a productive and public use.  I also think it's an important project for providing more of an active destination between Walnut Hills and Mt. Adams.  While Eden Park is awesome, it does create a huge void of activity at night, most of winter, rainy days, etc.  I think the brewery could help to enliven Eden Park a bit more, and reintroduce people to the park who perhaps haven't been in a while.  While not central in location, I've always thought of Eden Park as being the closest thing Cincinnati had to a Central Park. I welcome the increase in activity that the brewery will undoubtably bring.

^ I will also be a nice destination for the residents of the nearby Baldwin Building, which is being converted from office space to residential.

Yes and for the redeveloping area moving north on Victory Parkway in Walnut Hills and East Walnut Hills.

We have a new office close to Victory and while there isn't a ton of activity, there are quite a few homes, apartments, etc. being renovated.  Mostly south of Windsor Street, on the west side of Victory at the moment and moving north, it appears.  I should say I think East of Victory and South of McMillan is pretty well renovated but there are some homes with renovation occurring.

^-I always felt that was one of the most interesting areas in Cincinnati.  I really like the views over the bridge on Victory as you are coming down towards Eden Park - the park itself is super nice too.

Glad to see the brewery going forward, though I'm kind of frustrated that it may have been ready by now if not for pointless political muddling around...

There will be plenty of that for at least the next three years.

Pair of Cincinnati brewers take home bronze from GABF

DENVER -- Listermann Brewing and Ei8ht Ball Brewing will both be taking home bronze medals from the 2014 Great American Beer Festival.

Listermann won in the Specialty Beer category for its Nutcase Peanut Butter Porter.

Ei8ht Ball placed third in the Wood- and Barrel-Aged Beer category for its Reintarnation ale.

Columbus Brewing won bronze in American-style India Pale Ales and gold for its Imperial India Pale Ale.

Fat Head’s Brewery & Saloon won gold for its German-style Wheat Ale and JAFB Wooster Brewery won silver for its Foreign-style Stout.

Overall, 234 breweries won medals for beers in 90 categories. Organizers said the parity in the entries this year was astounding and proved that quality runs far and wide in American craft beer.

That is the worst name for a beer I've ever heard. No joke.

Honestly I did did not pay attention to the name.  Beer and Brewery names are typically off the wall any way they don't register with me.

Its a Shakespearean character from Much Ado About Nothing

^ I immediately associate the term "DogBerry" with poop. I think it's a similarity to dingle-berry. Whatever the origins, you shouldn't want your brand name to encourage images of poo.

Plus, there are quite a few  "dog" beer brands already (Flying Dog, Dogfish Head, Red Dog (is that still around?)).

The Brewery District just released a video outlining their campaign to develop the Brewing Heritage Trail.  Gotta admit, I'm pretty excited about this.

Is there a target date for completion?

Full build out would be 2 years minimum, but the reality of funding will stretch that out. Key parts of the Trail can come online sooner, like public art, website, and virtual elements. More details are at www.brewingheritagetrail.com.

These guys get it.  I wish more organizations in the city understood what they understand - Cincy would be a much better city.  I'm also really excited as well.

Here's a write-up about the future of Blank Slate and the opening of their taproom. Cincinnati Enquirer article

Blank Slate is my favorite brewery in the city. Ryesing Up is my favorite beer of theirs. The tap room is pretty small, but they did a great job with the space.

If anyone knows anybody affiliated with their company they should let them know you want a taproom.  Someone should at least talk with the Brewery District folks about it.

Its such an obvious idea given how there are 2 other breweries in an area known for its brewing history.

I have always heard that the problem with Sam Adams is that it’s a very industrial facility and it’s running at capacity most of the time. They would need an addition to do a tap room – but that could make for a great building in their lot on the corner of Liberty and Central.

Sam Adams is closely tied to representatives of the Brewery District. Jim Koch and Greg Hardman (Christian Moerlein and Brewery District President) are friends. I imagine it is in their long term plans, but probably have no plans currently to do so.

Or maybe even across Central Parkway in the building with the Warner Bros. Pictures sign on it? I think that's open.

www.cincinnatiideas.com

If they were committed to opening a taproom, I'd imagine an addition wouldn't be a big deal. They are used to spending millions in capital improvements for the facility, so why not? Especially since it would be a revenue generator.

Having a direct quote from Koch on the topic is a good sign. He knows what's going on in Over-the-Rhine, and has enormous respect for the city and its brewing heritage (just having a facility in that location proves this, in a historic brewery no less -- and the investment predates the contemporary OTR brewing renaissance).

I don't know how much his loyalty to Boston might prevent a flagship-level operation in Cincinnati. I could see Koch being concerned about that, though, and he references the lack of a taproom in Boston when addressing the possibility of one here. This could be mitigated by first opening a taproom in Boston, or perhaps doing a joint venture with a local brewery selling locally brewed Sam Adams beers alongside the other brewery's. (I believe the rare and experimental SA stuff is primarily brewed here, so this would be pretty awesome. Much more so than just having unexciting Boston Lager or Rebel IPA served next to Truth and Cougar. It could actually contribute significantly to the local scene and garner national attention, while still letting Boston indisputably claim SA's home base.) Maybe MadTree or another suburban brewer could approach SA with a proposition to jointly open an OTR taproom.

Cincinnati beer blog Hoperatives: "Carla asked Jim Koch about the possibility of a tap room and brewery tours at the brewery in Cincinnati. He didn’t dismiss the idea, but it didn’t sound like it’s something that’s really on the radar."

So the guy who owns Rhinegeist actually used zeitgeist in a quote.  Um, okay.

I'm not the biggest fan of their beers, but I have to respect their business. They know how to get things done. I wouldn't be surprised if they pass Great Lakes in volume in the next 5 years.

Rhinegeist and Madtree got a huge jump over the other new breweries because they had better sales teams and might have had more money behind them.  Good thing the Lager House is up and running on the riverfront, because I think Moerlein is in danger of getting out-sold and overshadowed.

Both Rhinegeist and MadTree are into making hoppy beers, which are trendy and have contributed to their popularity.

Rhinegeist by far is my favorite local brewery. Although I discovered a few weekends ago that the Lager House has the best Bloody Marys I've had in Cincinnati.
