January 31, 20178 yr ^Blank Slate teamed up with Oskar Blues a year or two ago to make a Skyline beer. It was pretty mildly spiced. Was pretty good, but most people went "eww chili beer" without trying it. As for black raspberry chocolate chip milk stout, there are already plenty of chocolate milk (lactose, not actual milk) stouts out there, and there are plenty of dark beers with fruit added. That's definitely not the strangest combination you'll see.

February 11, 20178 yr MadTree 2.0 opening this weekend MadTree 2.0, a massive $18 million expansion for one of Cincinnati's first and largest craft breweries, is opening this weekend. MadTree Brewing is opening in the former RockTenn facility at 3301 Madison Road on Feb. 11. February 13, 20178 yr Recently visited the west side location and it was flat out awful. Only 5 of their 12 beers were available... until they blew a keg and then there were 4. Tried their pretzels w/beer cheese, both microwaved and delivered within 5 minutes of ordering them. The westside location is closing temporarily, as the former owners have repurchased it (formerly known as Patrick's). Hopefully they will return it to its former glory as it always used to be packed.
February 13, 20178 yr After a massive crowd on Saturday, MadTree had to stay closed on Sunday "to recover". Their post didn't explain why they had to close... and it must have been a pretty serious reason for them to forego what surely would have been another huge crowd on Sunday. Anybody know *why* they had to close on Sunday? https://www.facebook.com/MadTree/photos/a.264888036879909.56505.165278523507528/1242209845814385/?type=3&permPage=1
February 13, 20178 yr I think you're overthinking it. They sold 160 barrels of beer in two days. That takes them more than two days to actually brew (which doesn't include all of beer in cans and at bars around the tristate sold that day). I think their employees were exhausted and thought it would be better to not reopen on Sunday and get the house in order. Their official Winter Bonanza event wasn't planned for Sunday, so it would have been a normal day, though probably still really busy. Employees were probably just beat.

February 20, 20178 yr Maybe not the most perfect location for this, but it was a nice shutout to Rhinegeist and the Brewery District and its role in revitilization: What Should Cities Make? There probably isn’t a city out there that wouldn’t like to be the next Silicon Valley. But cities will do better focusing on their distinctive assets and helping a manufacturing scene grow organically. Take Cincinnati. In the mid-19th century, German immigrants settled in the city’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood and started brewing lager and opening beer gardens. February 21, 20178 yr Another Cincinnati brewery completely sells out of beer on its opening weekend Don't ever accuse Cincinnatians of not being thirsty. Just a week after MadTree sold out of beer while celebrating the opening of its new brewery, another Cincinnati brewery is tapped out. March 20, 20178 yr ^I was at an event a few weeks ago put on by the Cincinnati Chapter of the Congress for the New Urbanism talking about how breweries are catalysts for neighborhood redevelopment, and they were one of the speakers. They talked about the Kickstarter, and said it acted more as a vehicle to get people excited for the brewery, have a sense of ownership in the business, and get their name out there. I believe he stated that they netted under $30k for the Kickstarter after fees and merchandise items were purchased. They raised $71k on Kickstarter. They basically said the project would have happened without it, but they got to do a few extra things with the added money and it built hype for them. But I don't think you could call them a crowdfunded brewery in the sense that that's how they made it work.
March 21, 20178 yr Braxton Brewing opening a second location to focus on innovation Covington's Braxton Brewing is announcing a second location on the eve of its second anniversary to focus on new craft beer styles.
