August 24, 20177 yr Would love to have a Party Source-caliber store somewhere in OTR. Obviously it wouldn't be as big, but it would be nice to have a store with quality products and a knowledgable staff right here in the neighborhood. Agreed. I'll be curious to see who applies (not sure if that will be made public or not). I suspect Kroger will apply, and if they get the license they'll include a liquor section in their new store. Speaking of which, has Kroger announced what the hours will be of their new store on Central Parkway? The current Kroger on Vine closes at 9pm, which is annoyingly early. I hope the new Kroger stays open later.

August 29, 20177 yr Okay so I don't drink so I have no accurate way to judge. But ice cream flavored beer just sounds gross. Especially something like black raspberry chip. Is it actually good, or just novel?
August 29, 20177 yr I found the BRC Milk Stout to be quite the let down. And I'm generally not a fan of brown ales. But this is my favorite Graeter's flavor so here's hoping! "It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton
September 10, 20177 yr A neighbor's homebrew and a little OCD led to Cincinnati's newest craft brewery Ellery Tuck might not have gotten into craft brewing if his neighbor was just a little bit better at it. The co-founder of Banana Hammock Brewing was not into brewing himself before a neighbor brought over some homebrew. September 28, 20177 yr Ei8ht Ball Brewing co-founder merges side hustle with Indiana brewery The co-founder of the now-defunct Ei8ht Ball Brewing began helping breweries barrel age their beers long before he helped start the Newport brewery, and now that side business is merging with an Indiana brewery. Danny Gold worked various jobs in his more than a decade at Party Source in Bellevue, the nation's largest employee-owned liquor store. He was the beer, wine, cider and mead buyer when he noticed that the bourbon barrels from Party Source's private label brands were sitting empty in a warehouse gathering dust. November 6, 20177 yr Fretboard Brewing opened this past weekend in Blue Ash. https://www.facebook.com/fretboardbrewing/videos/1574893032548709/
November 9, 20177 yr I stopped by Fretboard tonight after work (a Wednesday night, so no bands playing). In addition to a performance stage they also have a number of band practice spaces. They have what I suppose are security cameras in the practice spaces broadcasting to flat screens in the tap room so you can watch a band practice. Nobody was practicing tonight, though. It is a pretty brilliant idea though since up in Blue Ash you might see some guys at a company decide to play together in one of those practice spaces and then they spend money on the beer, of course.
November 13, 20177 yr Adriatico's is now delivering "cowlers" -- growlers in 24oz cans. The "crowler station":
November 15, 20177 yr After Hurricane Harvey, Braxton Brewery in Covington shut down its beer canning line and canned water to send to areas that were hit by the storm. Of course, as a brewery that normally cans beer, Braxton has plenty of beer cans available, so they used those cans to package the water and then put a label on top that reads "Water, packaged by Braxton Brewery". Well, a local TV station in Lafayette, Louisiana ran this outrageous news story claiming that Braxton was distributing beer in those water cans! The only evidence they provided was that a woman said her child was acting funny after drinking the water, and then when they peeled off the label, saw that it was a beer can underneath! http://klfy.com/2017/11/13/women-claim-the-liquid-inside-a-case-of-water-cans-wasnt-water-company-responds/ Braxton tried to do a good deed here by canning water for hurricane victims, and now they're being attacked by some woman who probably just wanted attention or money. And the local TV station is running a hit piece on them based on no actual evidence. Additionally, the rest of the water they canned will not be passed out by food pantries because of this woman's claim.

November 15, 20177 yr I like how the reporter is standing there with a can in his hands and could easily put the issue to rest by just opening it to see what's inside. But he doesn't, because "woman claims can of water contains beer, but it's actually just water" isn't much of a story.

December 27, 20177 yr Hearing rumors that Platform Brewing from Cleveland wants to open a taproom in OTR... They opened a distribution location in Queensgate with a pending A1C license (brewery license), which would allow them to open a tap room within 1 mile. The first beer I bought from Platform was so bad I wouldn't finish the 6-pack. I don't know if it was an off batch or what. Since then, I've tried a few more, some of which were pretty good. They seem to be one of the more experimental-yet-mainstream breweries in the state, along with Jackie-O's and Rhinegeist. This could be the next stage of the microbrewery industry; breweries with successful regional distribution beginning to locate taprooms and satellite breweries in other cities. Which will then make it harder for start-ups who haven't honed their craft to enter the market, when there's a known, high-quality brewery opening down the street.
December 27, 20177 yr Can we get a Sam Adams taproom already? I know their actual brewery site is tight, but if this brewery can open a taproom within a mile, couldn't Sam Adams do the same thing and open one anywhere in West End/OTR? I think it would be big to get some more mainstream beer types in the city as well.
December 27, 20177 yr Sam Adams is struggling. They have been for a few years. I don't see them investing to open a taproom in Cincy anytime soon. Even though I loved to have one there.
December 27, 20177 yr Yeah, Sam Adams might have had a lot of "snob appeal" in 1999 but these days it's not even close.

December 27, 20177 yr I agree that I don't ever buy Sam Adams really, but I feel like my uncle won't buy Rhinegeist because he's never heard of it and thinks its snobby and hipster, but I have seen him drink Boston Lager.
December 27, 20177 yr Yeah, Sam Adams might have had a lot of "snob appeal" in 1999 but these days it's not even close. Beer snobbery has turned into the star-bellied sneetches. In the 90s, the fake heritage of "Sam Adams" and "Boston" and "Irish" pubs and microbrew beer in a bottle were symbols of quality. Now historical figures and cities are uncool, nobody cares about Ireland, and bottles are snickered at in favor of garishly decorated cans. At some point people might wake up and realize that 90% of the post-2010 "craft" beer out there tastes like bunk gas station malt liquor.
December 27, 20177 yr Every brewery except for Rhinegeist I've been to in the Cincy area is on the top end of the craft trend. Rhinegeist is just surviving alone on good branding / riding a trend.
December 28, 20177 yr Sam Adams should open a tap room off-site, but in OTR. Perhaps near Findlay Market or something.
January 4, 20187 yr See inside Greater Cincinnati’s newest microbrewery Little Miami Brewing Co., which is located along the banks of the Little Miami River in downtown Milford, is now open.
