They still don't have AC, it gets miserably hot when it's really crowded in there over the summer.  Thankfully the rooftop added more space for people and a place to go to get out of the hot brewery.

New Moerlein owner plans $30 million overhaul of historic OTR brewery buildings, may revive old brands By Andy Brownfield  –  Senior staff reporter, Cincinnati Business Courier May 31, 2022

Taprooms sure do get a lot more press than NASCAR bars did.

That AC from last years anniversary party was just an industrial one they had setup on the floor in the middle event room.  It was better then nothing but you had to be standing right next to it to feel anything.  The main brewery still either has no AC, or if it does have something it doesn't work well since the room is huge.  I'm pretty sure it doesn't have anything because of all the fans they still have setup in there.  Just ask anyone who went to the FC announcement last week how hot the brewery was.

According this article, Northern Row is going to open in July: https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2018/06/15/jtm-co-owner-helps-to-bring-brewery-distillery-to.html

Seems very soon, considering the building doesn't appear drastically updated from the outside. Hopefully, they are actually that close, but I'm not holding my breath. In early 2017, they "announced" there were going to open in summer 2017.

In any case, I'm looking forward to this big building coming back on line! It's got such a huge presence and will be good for it to be back in use.

They are already producing beer, just waiting for tap room code/permit issues to be resolved and adding a kitchen. Was there a couple months ago and they are not far away.

Brewing Heritage Trail breaks ground after yearlong delay

The Brewing Heritage Trail, a $5 million, 2.3-mile interactive project to showcase the history of Cincinnati's Brewing District, finally broke ground on Thursday nearly one year after its anticipated launch.

Since May 2012, City Council members and officials from the Over-the-Rhine Brewery District Community Urban Redevelopment Corp. have envisioned an experiential trail that supports the area's local brewers and familiarizes the community with Cincinnati's extensive craft beer history.

It remained mostly conceptual for the first few years until the logistics of the trail were set in stone. Then, in 2015, the Brewery District was awarded $300,000 to begin construction. The district received another $300,000 – two-thirds from the state of Ohio and one-third from the city of Cincinnati – to bring its vision to life.

New Riff releasing bourbon soon, owner talks about the four-year wait

After four years aging in new charred oak barrels, Greater Cincinnati distillery New Riff's bourbon will be made available to the public this summer. Owner Ken Lewis didn't have to wait that long to make bourbon, but he wouldn't do it any other way.

New Riff Distilling, at 24 Distillery Way in Newport, is releasing two bourbons on Aug. 1: its bottled in bond bourbon priced at $40 for 750 ml, and single-barrel bourbon at barrel proof – the same strength it is in the barrel without dilution.

"There's no legal requirement to age bourbon for so long in order for it to be called bourbon, but we're absolutely laser-focused on quality, which for us means bottled in bond," Lewis told me.

"It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton

Ah yes, I see what they were getting at with the authentic "drinking at work" experience

Cincinnati is lucky to have so many breweries in unique buildings. In other cities breweries in office parks are much more common. Here those types of breweries probably can’t survive unless they have amazing beer.

That's a good point. In Columbus maybe not all of our taprooms are in buildings that are historic per se. We've got a lot of ones that are in 1940s/50s industrial buildings, mechanic's garages and whatnot but they're at least in the core and have interesting layouts. I think one or two 1977 office park ones are in the works but who knows how that's going to go long term. Drinking in an 1940 ex boiler parts warehouse still wins.

The people running Tap and Screw never seemed like they knew what they were doing.

Exactly. From the outside, Stone Brewery in Escondido, CA is a nondescript office building in a sea of office buildings. But their beer is top notch and the interior is well done.

"It's just fate, as usual, keeping its bargain and screwing us in the fine print..." - John Crichton

Urban Artifact used to have a terrible interior, but they've done a great job in the past year or so of making it an inviting space. And they brew the best beer in the state!

Cleveland has a lot of well-located urban breweries, including of course Great Lakes, which anchored Ohio City years before the neighborhood's renaissance.

There is some context missing in this article. I was in Athens this weekend so I got the story first hand. For Pride Week, many bars put up signs supporting the LGBT community. Broney's was one of only two bars in town that declined to do so. They then put up this stupid sign instead. In context, it is much worse in my opinion. Someone at the bar was clearly sending a message. I commend Rhinegeist for taking this stance. I'll be buying more Truth and not going back to Broney's.

Also, GO BOBCATS!

Bubbles a surprise, huge hit for Rhinegeist

From personal observation, I would say that Rhinegeist's Bubbles is the drink of the summer.

The dark-pink "rose ale" seems made to drink on rooftop bars or at music festivals. It's lightly sweet, mildly effervescent bubbly, and tastes of apples, cranberry and peach. It's the opposite of a bitter IPA It's kind of perfect at brunch. It also makes lovely cocktails, and is priced like beer, not wine.

Turns out Bubbles is even more successful than a casual observation would suggest, and not just in the summer. This drink now accounts for 20 percent of Rhinegeist's sales, said Bob Bonder, founder and President of Rhinegeist. "People are obsessed with it," said Bonder. So, not surprisingly, they've just introduced a similar drink called Wowie.

Cincinnati breweries rack up state awards

By Erin Caproni  – Digital Producer, Cincinnati Business Courier

Cincinnati is home to Ohio’s best large brewery and many of the state’s highest-rated beers.

Six Greater Cincinnati breweries brought home top honors from the 2018 Ohio Craft Brewers Cup.

Among the most awarded was MadTree Brewing, which took home the Best Large Brewery award, while Brink Brewing was named Best Southwest Brewery.

https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2018/08/06/cincinnati-breweries-rack-up-state-awards.html

Woodburn Brewery has closed its doors, and is under a current suspension for sales tax evasion.

Hopefully this gets cleared, and is not a sign that the brewery business was going under.

Damn I really like that brewery.  They didn't produce a ton of beer so I don't think they got out too far ahead of themselves like other breweries have.  Hopefully they can get this figured out and reopen.

Someone posted in the Greater Cincinnati Craft Beer Facebook group that they just missed their deadline by a day, and they will be reopen tomorrow.

I can't speak for what goes on Woodburn Ave. during the day and early evening hours since I'm never over there at those times, but the brewery and Myrtle's both look pretty dead every night of the week after 9pm, including Fridays and Saturdays.  I've seen the chairs up on the tables in Myrtle's at midnight before.

BrewDog looks ahead: Cincy

More bars, more brands and more beers is BrewDog USA’s to-do list for the remainder of 2018 and beyond.

The Scotland-based craft brewery, which calls Canal Winchester its U.S. home, hosted its third annual gathering at the brewery this past weekend. And while there was plenty of live music and cold beer (111 choices on tap to be exact), company founders James Watt and Martin Dickie also were on hand to tout past successes and look toward the future.

...

Fresh off opening a pair of new bars in Columbus plus its new Canal Winchester hotel, DogHouse, the company now is headed to Cincinnati with a lease for a site in the Pendleton neighborhood for its first U.S. DogTap bar outside Central Ohio.

Craft brewers raise $2M for Silverton's first brewery

Cincinnati brewery releases beer to honor historic King Records

A Cincinnati brewery is releasing a beer this weekend that celebrates the 75th anniversary of the studio where James Brown recorded.

Evanston-based Listermann Brewing Co. will kick off King Records Month in Cincinnati on Sept. 1 with a beer that celebrates the studio’s founding while also honoring four important alumni of the label with a collectible variety pack.

The beer, The King of Them All, references the day in September 1943 when WLW radio performers (and future Country Hall of Fame inductees) Grandpa Jones and Merle Travis recorded the first songs for the label. Driving back from the recording session, Syd Nathan, the label’s founder, came up with the name “King” for his new business while brainstorming in the car with Jones and Travis. Nathan declared his record company would be “The King of Them All.”

Greater Cincinnati brewery opening this month brings a full rec center

A Greater Cincinnati brewery opening this month is taking full advantage of its 6.5 acres of land, bringing outdoor activities and games to its campus.

Sonder Brewing at 8584 Duke Blvd. in Mason is celebrating its grand opening on Oct. 27. The brewery wants to be a place people can go and hang out even if they don't like beer.

Its 6.5-acre campus will lend itself to that. It will have the typical brewery things – taproom, patio and a kitchen serving bar fare – but it will also include amenities like bocce ball courts, cornhole sets, a wiffle ball diamond and a kickball field. Partner Justin Neff describes it as pretty much a full recreation center.
