May 13, 200916 yr Here are the new designs for the 12 packs and beer buckets that I received.. Where may I obtain a beer bucket of that ilk?
May 13, 200916 yr Oh, and I noticed that the 12-pack says "12 Kings". That box also looks a little large for 12 of the regular-sized Little Kings. Are those larger bottles?
May 13, 200916 yr Here are the new designs for the 12 packs and beer buckets that I received... Me and a friend just tore through a 24 pack of little kings. The 7oz bottle is nice.
May 20, 200916 yr Burger beer to debut at Reds Hall of Fame http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/stories/2009/05/18/daily28.html Hudepohl-Schoenling Brewing Co. is re-introducing Burger beer on May 29 at the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame. Greg Hardman, owner of Christian Moerlein Brewing Co., said the Hall of Fame will be open for special evening hours to celebrate the return of Burger Classic and Burger Light after an absence of several years. The first 600 paid admissions to the Hall of Fame will receive a T-shirt commemorating its “Crosley Field Remembered” exhibit and the return of Burger beer.
May 20, 200916 yr New Christian Moerlein television commercial that will be airing in the Cincinnati market from now until July 4th.
May 20, 200916 yr yea I like it too. Although the close up of the two logos towards the end seemed a bit hokey.
May 26, 200916 yr I had the Moerlein Helles at Taste of Cincinnati and I liked it a lot. Though I may have had too much by the end of the weekend . . .
May 26, 200916 yr The Helles Lager is a staple at my house. Nothing groundbreaking, just top quality local beer.
May 26, 200916 yr Yeah, Helles and Little Kings usually occupy 1/2 of my refrigerator at all times. They're my standards.
May 27, 200916 yr It sure would be nice if Moerlein was actually a Cincinnati beer these days. The beers are brewed in PA and Wisconsin and the headquarters are actually in Middletown. If you want an actual Cincinnati beer these days your best and only choice is Sam Adams. They have one of their largest breweries in the City. The owner is from Cincinnati and so is the original recipe.
May 27, 200916 yr It sure would be nice if Moerlein was actually a Cincinnati beer these days. The beers are brewed in PA and Wisconsin and the headquarters are actually in Middletown. Greg Hardman just bought Moerlein within the past ten years with his early focus being on acquiring the historic Cincinnati beers...then rebranding and relaunching them. He seems to be finished with that for the time being. After things settle down a bit, and the business is humming along at a steady rate, I bet you'll see that change. Just give it a little time.
May 27, 200916 yr If you want an actual Cincinnati beer these days your best and only choice is Sam Adams. They have one of their largest breweries in the City. The owner is from Cincinnati and so is the original recipe. But you never see Jim Koch and Sam Adams active in the community like Greg and Christian Moerlein is. Most people have no idea Sam Adams is brewed here.
May 27, 200916 yr It would complicate their branding to discuss the fact that most of the beer is brewed in Cincinnati rather than Boston.
May 27, 200916 yr Since they are going with the whole revolutionary war/patriot theme, they could do a Order of the Cincinnati beer.
May 28, 200916 yr If you want an actual Cincinnati beer these days your best and only choice is Sam Adams. They have one of their largest breweries in the City. The owner is from Cincinnati and so is the original recipe. Yeah, it's brewed here. But it's a "Boston beer" in the mind of the entire country. I don't care where the guy or recipe is from, Cincy ends up with none of the credit. That said, they make some truly fantastic beer.

I think they'll make a full return to the area.
May 28, 200916 yr Images of new beer cans and the commemorative t-shirt can be seen with article link... Burger Beer back in the 'Nati http://www.urbancincy.com/2009/05/burger-beer-back-in-nati.html The Hudepohl-Schoenling Brewing Co. is on a roll lately. Hot off of their Little Kings re-branding, they are now about the bring back one of Cincinnati's most fabled beers. On Friday, May 29th Burger Beer will be relaunched at the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame and Museum. The event will go from 6pm to 11pm (short presentation at 7pm) with the first 600 paid admissions ($10) will receive a FREE commemorative Burger Classic Beer Relaunch Celebration/Crosley Field Remembered retro t-shirt.
May 28, 200916 yr Burger Beer is cool and all, but there's not much that separates it from the rest of the American adjunct lagers dominating the market. Cincinnati needs more craft breweries that are more widely accessible. Mt. Carmel is just about the only one you can find in retail locations. The Barrelhouse needs to start attacking that market.
May 28, 200916 yr Burger is seriously yummy. It isn't all that unique but it tastes the best of the Cincy lagers IMHO.
August 13, 200915 yr Christian Moerlein Celebrates Oktoberfest with a Keg Tapping http://www.urbancincy.com/2009/08/christian-moerlein-celebrates.html “Greater Cincinnati has so many wonderful Oktoberfest events,” declares Don Heinrich Tolzmann, President of the German-American Citizen League. “We wanted to use this occasion to celebrate the start of the season.” And really, is there a better way to start any season than with a good ‘ol fashioned keg tapping? In honor of the unofficial start of the Oktoberfest Season, Christian Moerlein Brewing Company and German-American Citizens League of Greater Cincinnati will host a ceremonial keg tapping of the seasonal Moerlein Oktoberfest. The tapping will occur as part of a social gathering on Friday, August 14 at Kopling Center (Google Map). Mr. Manfred Schnetzer, a longtime member of the Kolping Society, will perform the honorary tapping promptly at 7pm, but the event runs from 5pm to midnight. In addition to the ceremony, Mr. Greg Hardman, President and CEO of Christian Moerlein Brewing Co., will give a brief presentation. The event will feature live music by Die Vereinsmusikanten, German food, and the raffling of many unique items. A large stein collection will be on display with items for purchase. Moerlein Artist Jim Effler will be on hand to sign Commemorative Moerlein Oktoberfest posters. Admission and parking are both free. If you've never tried Oktoberfest before, it's delicious. Whether you can make it to the event or not, I recommend picking up a sixer to get you in the spirit.
August 13, 200915 yr Soooo....why is the keg-tapping of the Cincy-based brew going to be in Springdale...?
August 13, 200915 yr Drive all the way out to the suburbs to drink for two hours. Why? I don't see why this can't be held in the center city.
August 13, 200915 yr Probably because the Kolping Society organized this and they may own Kolping Park, where this is being held. Doing something free of rent is a great deal for a likely not for profit. Plus if they own the park then they wont have to deal with a third party's rules and reg while putting on the event. Basically it comes down to it was simpiler.
August 13, 200915 yr What, do you guys all want to get drunk on Fountain Square and roam around? Hooligans.. Anyways, as for Burger: What's so great and/or distinctive about it? It's $0.50 a can. Need I say more?
August 13, 200915 yr What, do you guys all want to get drunk on Fountain Square and roam around? Hooligans.. Wait till September, you'll get your chance.
August 13, 200915 yr Soooo....why is the keg-tapping of the Cincy-based brew going to be in Springdale...? ...because it is not based in Cincinnati. The beer is brewed in PA WI and the headquarters are in West Chester or Middletown (One of the two). The beers may one have been Cincy beers but those days are long gone............

The beer is brewed in PA WI and the headquarters are in West Chester or Middletown (One of the two). The beers may one have been Cincy beers but those days are long gone............ I'm aware that the beer isn't brewed here, but the recipe is absolutely a Cincinnati thing. There are efforts to bring back the brewing process to the center city.
August 14, 200915 yr Efforts that have been going on for a few years now where as a smaller brewer with a no initial customer base can open up in a few months and be selling their beer......................Unfortunately I believe we will be hearing and waiting for Moerlein to return operations to the city for years to come.
August 14, 200915 yr ^ Moerlein isn't a microbrewery. I don't know of any brewery that does their current volume that just "opened up in a few months". They are following the tried and true path that many brewers have over the years like Sam Adams and Brooklyn Brewery. Moerlein beer being brewed here is closer than you think.
August 14, 200915 yr ^ Brooklyn Brewery brews most of their beer upstate, not in Brooklyn at their headquarters. That place only brews the kegs, which makes them easier to distribute to bars in the city, as well as an occasional 750mL specialty beer, and also serves as a party place on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, where people can hang out and drink the beer. I think a similar setup for Moerlein would be great.
August 14, 200915 yr I would just like to point out that Listermann Brewing Company started selling large bottles of about 5 different varieties at Ludlow Wines and Craft Beers. That stuff is brewed right on Dana Ave. Of course there's also Mt. Carmel Brewing Company, which operates only a few miles east of Cincinnati. These are the true local brews we have right now.
August 14, 200915 yr Moerlein needs a brewpub in downtown or OTR - its sad that a city with such great brewing history doesn't have a local brewpub to point to. If Moerlein doesn't do it soon, someone else will.

The more local beers the better, but no Brewery in recent memory has done as much to promote this City as Christian Moerlein.

Barrelhouse has had a particularly difficult time returning to prominence, after losing their brewing facilities to Sam Adams, losing their brewpub, and having problems in the processes. I hear that consistency has been a problem for them as of late too. Additionally, Hudy Bock is a brew that's only offered during Bockfest, so I wouldn't consider that to be consistent either.
August 15, 200915 yr Cincinnati’s Moerlein Brewing has heady plans http://cincinnati.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/blog/2009/08/cincinnatis_moerlein_brewing_has_heady_plans.html While Pittsburghers are crying in the beers after two local breweries shut their doors this year, Christian Moerlein CEO Greg Hardman is working on reviving Cincinnati’s legendary Hudepohl 14K brand, as he works – or so he keeps insisting – to bring his brewing operations back to their hometown.
August 15, 200915 yr Is the old Moerlein Brewery building on E McMicken actually vacant, based on the spectulative Drop Inn Center discussion? I would love to see that buiilding reused for its original purpose. Reuse of scale specific buildings like terminal/station buildings and breweries seem to capture very little opportunities that their original tenants had.
August 16, 200915 yr ^ No, there are at least two different non-profits operating out of it. One is a dentistry service and the other just moved in ( I forget the names right now). And that is not the original Moerlein brewery, it is the original Hudepohl brewery. I don't see the Drop-Inn moving there, thought that has been the rumor for years. I believe most of that stems from the transistional housing that was relocated across the street a couple of years ago that is part of the Drop-Inn.
August 16, 200915 yr ^I always get those two mixed up in terms of that buidling because I know about the crumbling Hudepohl building on the west side of town. Now I remember where the old Moerleiin facility is--right across from the Rookwood Pottery building. I seem to recall that the building was put back on the market, earlier this year...
August 24, 200915 yr Vito's Cafe of all places is starting a small scale brewery. Vito's Cafe Introduces Red Ear Brewing Company http://www.buycincy.com/flavor/2009/08/vitos-cafe-red-ear-brewing.html Greater Cincinnati has a new brewpub - and its not from a place you might expect. Vito's Cafe in Ft. Thomas has just announced their in-house brewery operation, Red Ear Brewing Company. Maybe more well known for their Italian cuisine and singing servers, the restaurant is starting its brewery operation one batch at a time. Brewmaster Matt Wehmeyer, son of owners Mary and Vito Ciepiel's is starting out with Endless Summer Ale, a seasonal beer that will give way in autumn to what Matt describes as "something more bold." In the name of research, we might just have to go and try it. Vito's Cafe 654 Highland Ave. Suite 29 Ft. Thomas, KY 41075 859-442-9444 www.vitoscafe.com
August 25, 200915 yr Anyone go to Brew ha-ha? I had some friends go, but I wasn't able to make it. Sounds like there was a good turnout.
