Posted May 6, 201411 yr 27 Photos of Wealthy Cincinnati For one of my last weeks living in Cincinnati, Ohio</a>, I wanted to explore the wealthy enclaves of the eastern half of the Queen City. With spring in full swing - and my allergies causing sniffles and congestion, it was a good time to wander about and see just what I could discover - with much thanks to Jeffrey Jakucyk of Cincinnati Traction History</a>. If you have the money, you can live at these secluded addresses in Hyde Park, a wealthy neighborhood in Cincinnati, Ohio. Scattered on private lanes, near golf courses, some clinging to the sides of hills overlooking the Ohio River and the skyline of downtown, many of these are valued at several million each, namely for the architecture and the value of the land. 3530 Bayard Dr. 2320 Bedford Ave. 2338 Bedford Ave. 2358 Bedford Ave. 17 Elmhurst Pl. at Grandin Ln. 10 Grandin Ln. 2570 Grandin Rd. 2624 Handasyde Ave. 2626 Handasyde Ave. 3539 Holly Ave. 2500 S. Rookwood Dr. 3450 Vista Ave. 3485 Holly Ave. 3160 Victoria Ave. 3543 Vista Ave. East Walnut Hills, namely along the Madison Road corridor, has some stately houses on large lots. While the 40 acre estates are long gone, nearly all of these opulent and excessive residences remain. 2923 Annwood St. 2929 Annwood St. 2963 Annwood St. 1854 Keys Crescent Ln. 3043 Wold Ave. 2953 Wold Ave. 1736 Madison Rd. 1812 Madison Rd. 1840 Madison Rd. 1842 Madison Rd. Take some time and explore the winding roads that hug the cliffs in Hyde Park and Walnut Hills!
May 6, 201411 yr Wow, nice shots of nice houses! And these were all within city limits? It's impressive the amount of wealth that is within the city proper, I'm assuming the hills helped keep the wealth in Cincinnati better than places like Columbus and Cleveland where it could easily leave.
May 6, 201411 yr If you want to see some big houses that are still on large lots and are in the middle of the City, take Vista Avenue off Madison Road and then take your first left onto Garden Place. Keep going until you run into people's driveways. It's the most hidden richest spot in the City. Larger estates will be on Grandin Road where it deadends where Edwards starts. Less obscure. All these places are private drives, but if you put on some headphones and ride your bike you can pretend like you can't hear les grandes dames when they start hassling you.
May 6, 201411 yr Yep - me and Jeffrey ventured back there. It's a narrow one-lane road that winds down a small ravine, with some mega houses tucked in near Interstate 71. You'd never know unless you looked at a map! (http://goo.gl/maps/hy9YS) We did sneak back on Grandin, which was quite nice, too. As for the hounds - and hassling, we had one individual come rushing out, yelling: "WHO ARE YOU? WHO DO YOU WORK FOR?" Just being calm and praising his house, he retreated back inside. His wife is an investment advisor; I couldn't find out what he did for a living. At another house, which was for sale, an older lady came out and asked why I was snapping her house. "Well, because it's beautiful." And that was that - she said take all the photos you want! Another guy down in Walnut Hills was pretty appreciative and commented that it was the reason he maintained his house the way he did. As for private lanes - I wonder what the laws are about that. Most did not have any sign, other than "Private Lane," to ward off anyone else. A private lane is just privately maintained with no exclusions. A few had "No Trespassing/Soliciting" attached. In West Virginia, trespassing is defined as trespassing only after you have been told to leave and have refused to do so (know this because I had to use it in a court case). But Ohio? Not sure - and how it applies to roadways, I'm not sure. But it was fun to watch some rich people get their pants in a wad that someone actually admires their architecturally stunning house. Or landscaping.
May 6, 201411 yr Are you staying solely in Cincy or venturing out? If you go into Indian Hill around Cunningham road, you'll see some mansions twice the size of these
May 6, 201411 yr Wonderful shots! Some of the houses on Grandin Ln bend Summit Country Day are fantastic as well. I know the Castellini's have a compound back there. The Rookwood neighborhood that is basically lined by Grandin and Edwards also has some fantastic homes. Handasyde Ave also has some great older homes.
May 6, 201411 yr As for the hounds - and hassling, we had one individual come rushing out, yelling: "WHO ARE YOU? WHO DO YOU WORK FOR?" LOL, yeah, people in poor neighborhoods get paranoid about people photographing their homes, too.
May 6, 201411 yr ... If you go into Indian Hill around Cunningham road, you'll see some mansions twice the size of these. Very true, but obtaining closeup photos of many of these mansions will require either a discreet presence combined with a telephoto lens or putting oneself at risk venturing anywhere onto their property. So many of the mansions of Indian Hill are virtual fortresses, protected by private acres of trees and hills, plus elaborate security systems.
May 6, 201411 yr Aren't quite a few of these--the houses on Wold and Keys Crescent--technically in East Walnut Hills, not Hyde Park? (Great shots by the way!)
May 6, 201411 yr Where are you moving to? I will miss your pictures of Cincinnati. Nice shots of these houses.
May 6, 201411 yr Nice shots! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
May 11, 201411 yr JDM: Those are listed under Walnut Hills :) I need to get back to some when it's nice and overcast. There is a gorgeous castle on Keys Crescent!
May 12, 201411 yr Whoops! I managed to miss that. I think I was looking at the pictures rather than the text....
