I just learned that Cincinnati lost its "Punk Rock Grandma" in May of this year:

Pat came to see many of my bands' shows back in the late 2000s. I especially remember seeing her at the Mad Hatter in Covington a lot.

I last ran into her in 2017 or 2018, waiting for a bus near Findlay Market. She did not remember any of my old bands. I guess we didn't make an impression on her. 😂

RUBBERHEAD: AKRON’S LASTING IMPACT ON CHUCK STATLER, GODFATHER OF MUSIC VIDEO

JP OLSEN

JANUARY 26, 2021

Chuck Statler started his long career in innovative and influential music video by collaborating with his classmates and fellow-pranksters at Kent State University, Mark Mothersbaugh and Jerry Casale of Devo.

It all began with the landmark DEVO: In the Beginning Was the End and, from there, led to work with a who’s who of cool musical collaborators (Pere Ubu, Prince, Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, James Chance, Graham Parker, Madness, among others). JP Olsen interviewed Statler about his Akron past and career in filmmaking.

Okay, these guys are famous (infamous?) for a hilariously terrible video for their song "The King Who Never Was" and now after a few years of doing whatever, they're back at it.

This is how I play, but I have to admit that I would be too embarrassed to ape the entire first Iron Maiden record this blatantly with an original.

I love it, though I have to admit it has more to do with the fact that "Alternate Reality" is a name they borrowed from my all time favorite video game.  They even use the same logo.

I'm shocked it hasn't been named that already?!?!

not sure if from there or went to school there.

also, pat dailey aka ohio's own version of jimmy buffett deserves a nod here at least --

Mark Foster interview on YouTube where he talks some about growing up in the Cleveland area. Don't think many know he has local roots, or would even recognize him walking down the street for that matter. Even though he has a good case for being the most prolific contemporary indie rock(pop?) artist in recent years.

^ he opened for the Beach Boys on their last real tour at Blossom back in 2012. He stopped his show at one point to recognize his childhood music teacher who was there in the crowd. She got a nice standing ovation :-)

RIP David Thomas. Here is Dave with Pere Ubu in what is perhaps the most Cleveland music video ever.
