Even though Chris has already signed me up for the meetup tomorrow, I figured I'd make it official, take the plunge and join UrbanOhio. That way I can maybe introduce myself as the newest member!

Anyway, as a resident of Ohio now for 2+ years, I'm glad to be here and enjoy learning about all interesting cities, towns and places of Ohio.

Look forward to meeting you folks and even learning some cool stuff about Cbus!

A friend's cat has a litter of 10 week-old kittens in Hungarian Village.  He's got 4 or 5 and I'm going to take one.  So if anyone is interested in adopting a kitten let me know on Saturday.  He's taking those that aren't claimed to the shelter on Monday, where they face an uncertain future.

Welcome to UO! We'll see you soon!

Also, for those not too familiar with the concept of parking in an urban area (this guy) where's the best place to park preferably for free? Should we park near the Arch, North Market, or somewhere closer to the tour end?

EDIT: Nevermind. I just realized that German Village isn't on the tour, and it's near Columbus Brewing Company. I'm going to park in German Village and ride the CBUS up. Cheers!

Good meeting everybody today! I got a lift home from urbanexplorer in case you guys felt like I pulled a disappearing act.

Nice to meet everyone! Here are some shots of the group

SO SORRY I wan't able to make it, everyone.  As some of you may know, my Mom had brain surgery for a malignant tumor recently, and I wasn't able to get away for the day.  There was just to much that needed attention around here.  I hope everyone had a great time in Columbus -- despite the rain.  And at least none of you were struck by lightning.  Damn.

^I hope your mother gets better, Kevin.  Best wishes.

And to everybody that came, thank you so much for a wonderful day!  Hope you all had an enjoyable time!

Can I post my candid photos of you yet?

Never.

Love ColDayMan's parasol!

The shade of it all!

He was giving us Chinese grandma realness.

Then he and the rest of the group jumped inside a sidewalk painting and attended a horse race in Victorian England

Is it bad that I had never heard of this city until I Googled it just now?

If we're picking a small town, I vote we hold the party at the Tiro Testicle Festival.

Now that's a place I hadn't heard of until I Googled it.

Yes, it is very bad. It was a port town on the Ohio & Erie Canal to link the Ohio/Mississippi rivers with the Great Lakes and Erie Canal to New York City. So this area of Ohio suddenly became accessible to the outside world. It stayed a prosperous town after predecessors of the Pennsylvania Railroad built a mainline in the 1850s linking New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Cincinnati/Indianapolis and St. Louis. The fastest trains from Cincinnati to the East Coast stopped in Coshocton. It is the headquarters of the Ohio Central RR today. But the town's economy diminished starting in the 1970s after nearby mines of high-sulfur coal were closed. I stayed in Coshocton in 1979 when our family was exploring the canal route and many historic towns in the area like Roscoe Village, Zoar and Gnadenhutten. There were still some operating strip mines in the area back then.

If someone wants to rent a party bus, I'd be happy to lead a "mediocre Cincinnati" tour, where we look at nondescript neighborhoods and developments.

Actually I really like the idea of having a UO meet in a smaller town.  The thing is we would need someone to play local tour guide, and most of us are from the 3 C's.

Yellow Springs!!!

Yellow Springs!!!

Not a terrible idea. I've never been and have always wanted to visit.

I'm partial to Kent. What they have done with the downtown area is nothing short of incredible.

I was just there for the first time a few weeks ago...and I veto that suggestion

I think we should do a Cleveland meet in 2016, so how about Cincy in 2015?

Yeah streetcar construction tour.. or RTA rail tour in 2015 with finished Cincy streetcar tour in 2017.

Downtown Cleveland isn't a great place to be in 2015...lots of construction projects due to be finished in a year

What about an Akron or Toledo?

Stryker!!

If you guys are serious about a small town, you can't go wrong with Athens. I'd probably still say one of the 3 C's though.

I vote for either Beatosu or Goblu in NW Ohio

Stryker!!

No ironic meets, that's too hipster  :speech:

What about a place our of the three C's but larger than a small town?  Dayton would be awesome, but so would Toledo and Akron...showing those cities some love.
