February 15, 200619 yr I'm in as long as it's after the end of my semester at UW, which would be in the second week of May, I think. But first you all have to come visit the geographers in Chicago in a few weeks. (Another thread here somewhere)
February 26, 200619 yr May 20th sounds good. I am hesitant of making dates because I am always on the road with my company.
February 27, 200619 yr If I am around (re: not traveling for work ... May is a killer month for me) - count me in for Cincy on May 20!
March 1, 200619 yr Either would work for me as of now. Maybe Michael Redmon can arrange a tour of the OTR, I am a FAN you know. ;) I know a few alleys we can 'splore. Sounds like fun.
March 3, 200619 yr I have drill on the 20th and 21st. My luck can't get any better. I will most likely attend though. :)
March 31, 200619 yr Well you picked the one day I definitely can't make it - I'm graduating from law school at the Aronoff that afternoon. Have a great time!!
April 4, 200619 yr I can't make it the 20th ... So ... you guys are going to have to change the date. ;) Sike, I'll be there!
April 4, 200619 yr Found out over the weekend that his graduation is also my new next-door neighbor's graduation...so for the sake of good neighborly relations, I'll probably skip the "friends in low places" tribute...
April 25, 200619 yr Grasscat, Montecarloss, and RichNCincy are going to be incharge of handling this event. So, have you put any more thought into this event? Just looking ahead at my social calendar and pondering if I will go or not.... Is this the right tour for someone who really hasn't even toured Cincinnati before? I haven't been to downtown yet. I don't know my way around at all so I just wonder if I would slow others down. Is there a Cincinnnati for Dummies Tour instead?
April 25, 200619 yr YIKES - some how this thread has been missing my radar - I will check security and Kroger for access to 17th floor on May 20!
April 25, 200619 yr Just looking ahead at my social calendar and pondering if I will go or not.... I think you should go. That way I won't be the only female at the meet. ;)
April 25, 200619 yr xumelanie is right, you should come. That way if you have any questions while touring the area, you have a bunch of people there who will be glad to answer them for you. It's a good time too.
April 25, 200619 yr Yeah, Pig talked to me about going, so barring any really important commitments I'll be there. Unless they start showing a marathon of really good TV shows that day. Add one female to the count.

April 25, 200619 yr I'll prolly go to.. or if I don't attend the tour, I'll probably meet for dinner or something. Perhaps folks would like to come over and have some beers on the roof later on?
April 25, 200619 yr Montecarloss - I am in, but must leave about 5:00 for another commitment. Do you still want me to look into using Kroger for a photo platform? That may depend upon the total headcount too... just let me know please. thx
April 25, 200619 yr ^That is certainly an option. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
April 28, 200619 yr Okay, okay.... I will plan on being there. Could someone please post specific and detailed directions to our meeting place? Just an address probably won't help me - google maps and mapquest aren't always specific enough. Please include some landmarks or points of interest to look for. (Yes, I get lost easily!) Also, would someone who is the main tour guide please post their phone number (or could you private message it to me)? It would be good to have a contact number to call if people are lost or running a little late. Can you tell I am an organized freak?

It would be good to have a contact number to call if people are lost or running a little late. I doubt you will get lost. Just look for the carew tower, enter in any of the numerous entraces and look for a big blob of people, primarily guys touting cameras. If you like I can give you my cell phone number and I'm sure Colday or Monte would give you theirs too if needed.
April 28, 200619 yr Can you tell I am an organized freak? And you're from Louisiana?!?! ;-) Did you stick out due to your attention to detail, or did you become more organized as a backlash to (almost) everything being "fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants" down here?
April 28, 200619 yr Question for you guys: where are the good (cheap) places to park for an afternoon such as this? Ordinarily I'd just park on the street, but Cincinnati has the nerve to have parking meters operate on Saturdays, and I expect the 2 hour limit at those isn't going to cut it. New Orleans Lady: The Carew Tower is at Fifth and Vine, but it takes up most of the block so you can enter on Vine, Fifth, Race, or Fourth if you want to walk through a bit more mall. Coming from Dayton on 75, you should probably exit on Fifth Street, which will be a left exit. If you follow that for a few blocks you'll be facing Fountain Square, where the street takes a little jog to the right (I'm guessing the square will still look like a construction site). That intersection is where the Carew Tower is- it'll be on your right. Now, where you should actually go depends on the good place to park, but it might help to go by Carew first just so you can see where the meeting place is. In case you haven't yet learned which one the Carew Tower is, it's this one:
April 28, 200619 yr ^ I believe the Westin Garage is still $1 on weekends. There is a garage on Garfield that is also $1 on weekends. I'm not sure about the other places. I have a monthly parking pass that is good 24/7, so I don't pay too much attention to parking rates any more.
April 28, 200619 yr Thanks PigBoy for the great directions and picture of the building. I needed some real details and you provided them. (I didn't even know what the Carew Tower was. I wasn't kidding when I said I know NOTHING about Cincinnati). I haven't been to Cincinnati since I moved here; I simply drove through it and waved from the Budget truck on our way in to Dayton. Thanks XUMelanie for the parking tip and for your other message. I look forward to meeting you. To Magyar, I am a unique breed and quite opposite from most of your stereotypical Louisiana folks. I don't even have much of an accent. Being that you live there now, I'm sure you realize that not every person or place is like Adam Sandler's "WaterBoy" movie, ya know. There are some intelligent people there. I like to think I am one of them. The "coonass" in me does come out, but only when I want it to. If you are at this gathering and you meet me, you will see. I hope the weather on the 20th is like today's weather....just beautiful!
April 28, 200619 yr ^Woo hoo! I never got to meet you when I was still travelling to Ft. Wayne semi-regularly, and despite my dissing, you're still coming to my city! Of course, it's to meet the cool kids, not me, but I'm still happy! Pigboy, I think it's just a buck or two for the big surface lot at 6th and Race - the one I was parked at initially when we met up a month or so ago. Happily, the Reds are not at home that weekend, so the lots shouldn't be special-event-priced... And if a couple folks want to avoid paying for parking entirely, I'm sure we can arrange for them to partner up with locals, park free on the street in neighborhoods and catch a ride downtown. I might not be in the meet for the duration, but I can certainly get a couple folks from Walnut Hills down to the meet itself...Andy, you know where I live, if you're interested...

Oy! ;) We are meeting in the Carew Tower Arcade (which is at the base of the Carew Tower, Cincinnati's tallest building). It is on the corner of 5th and Vine Streets in the heart of downtown, so it shouldn't be hard to find. Parking is cheap, if you know where to look (hint: look for the $1 parking signs). I'll send you a PM with my phone number. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
April 28, 200619 yr ^^I'm endorsing parking in neighborhoods and carpooling - you should be proud of me!
April 29, 200619 yr To Magyar, I am a unique breed and quite opposite from most of your stereotypical Louisiana folks. I'll take your word on it (I have never watched the Waterboy, but I can still remember Sandler's Cajun Man skits on SNL). I've met plenty of nice and well intentioned people here. Organized versus unorganized does not equate to smart versus dumb for me. Just that as a rule of thumb people in Louisiana don't seem to plan ahead. Folks here have taken "Living in the moment" to some extremes.
May 10, 200619 yr Okay, we're getting closer to the date so people might have a better idea what their calendars look like. Who's in and who's a maybe? I'm in for sure. Maybe ColDayMan, montecarloss or I could put who's in/who's out on the first post of this thread.
May 10, 200619 yr Well I suppose it is obvious from the posts I have made here, but for official confirmation: I'm in, and my sister (occasional lurker LaMichelle, post count 3) will be coming along too.
May 10, 200619 yr Right. We need to know who's coming. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
