Posted June 1, 201411 yr Gloomy weather, good architecture Bathhouse Row Many, if not all of the bathhouses are owned by the National Park Service today. One functions as a visitors center and the others are leased to private operators. Only two still function as bathhouses.
June 1, 201411 yr There are some great images of the closed Majestic Hotel here: http://artofabandonment.com/2012/11/the-majestic-hotel-hot-springs-ar/ As you'll notice above, the original portion of the building burnt earlier this year. The 1920's addition and a bad 1960's addition still stand. There are no redevelopment plans for the site or the remaining buildings, currently, as the owner and city/state try to figure out how to clean-up the remains of the original building.
June 1, 201411 yr Thanks for photos of this place. I had always heard that this town was one of the oddest in the U.S., and this certainly shows that.
June 2, 201411 yr Wow, that was far more substantial than I expected. Really cool stuff. It's great the National Park Service has been involved to ensure the survival of these things. I loved the baseball trail marker, by the way. The "renowned" Red Sox? Makes them sound like a forgotten piece of the past!
June 3, 201411 yr Awesome town. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
June 5, 201411 yr Wow! Great architecture and interesting topography...looks like it'd be a cool town to swing through on a road trip.
June 5, 201411 yr Hot Springs is a very interesting place. I like old resort towns, and there is some cool architecture throughout the city, and the bathhouses are beautiful. It's probably been six or seven years since we checked it out. Thanks for sharing! “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
June 5, 201411 yr yeah i like these old springs towns like here, saratoga, calistoga, etc. -- they all have a different vibe. fun to compare the actual hot springs experiences with japan, iceland and turkey versions too.
