I'm getting out of the Air Force soon and I'm moving back to Georgia. This past weekend I drove to Georgia to start looking for apartments and on the way stopped in Macon for a few hours. This is my first photo thread in a long time. I purchased a new Canon Rebel camera last month. I hope you all enjoy these photos. On with the show!

Macon is located in Middle Georgia, its about 80 miles south of Atlanta. It's the state's fourth largest city with 155,000 people. In 2012 the voters of Old Macon and Bibb County voted to merge the governments and it became official as of January 1, 2014. The city is known for its rich musical history, being the home of the Allman Brothers, Little Richard and Otis Redding. Lesser known is that Macon is also an emerging college town, being the home of Mercer University, Middle Georgia State College and Wesleyan College, a

private women's liberal arts college.

This is the Tubman Museum of African American History. Opened in 1981, the museum was originally housed in a 9,800 sq. ft. facility. Construction started on a replacement in 2009, but construction stopped two years later. Earlier, this year construction resumed on the 49,000 sq. ft. museum. Once complete it will be the largest museum of its kind in Georgia.

These homes are part of the Beall's Heights redevelopment that was completed ten years ago. It was a former housing project that the city tore down.

Mercer University has been a major player in redeveloping the area surrounding the school. In 2008, it launched the College Hill Corridor project to improve the area between its campus and Downtown Macon. Since then millions of dollars have been poured into the area. This is phase III of the Mercer Village lofts.

Macon is a charmer!

"You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

what a great thread. everything seems to be renovated or renovating. even non-atlanta georgia is booming these days.

Congratulation on one wonderfully detailed photo thread--I would have never believed that Macon looked this good! (and also thanking "the Rebel")

Wow! I'm not sure I've ever seen pictures of Macon. Now I want to go there.
